Taking place between the 21st April and 9th June 2012, the Croydon Music Festival is the place for the whole community to show off their performance skills.
Encompassing all kinds of music, dance, speech and drama, the Festival welcomes amateur performers of all ages and abilities to take part. The Festival's 'open to all' policy encourages entrants from schools and community groups, as well as individuals thus offering an ever changing spectrum of performances.
With the aim of encouraging and educating performers in whatever genre, Croydon Music Festival strives to give everyone the opportunity and experience of live performance. Professional adjudicators are on hand to give constructive critique and encouragement, and young people are motivated to learn through observing other performers.
Trophies and certificates will be awarded in dance and drama categories, Asian music, brass and individual woodwind instruments, vocal performance and many, many more. The emphasis is very much on encouraging and showcasing the broad diversity of music in Croydon, allowing ambitious amateurs to perform their hearts out and entertain the ever welcome public audience.
The competitive performances will be staged in a number of venues in the Croydon area. Following the Festival’s numerous concerts, some of the highly talented and entertaining acts will be chosen to perform in public, without the competitive element, at a number of Showcase concerts. Past years have proven that not only does this give the audience the chance to enjoy a diverse and highly enjoyable programme of entertainment, but has certainly encouraged both individuals and groups to participate in the main Croydon Music Festival in subsequent years.
