Lee Wright had a successful career teaching and performing salsa dancing throughout the UK and internationally and was a familiar and respected figure in the Croydon dance community.

Together with his dance partner, Shelley they were UK Professional Champions 2006 and 2007, Silver Medallists at the European Salsa Masters Championships 2006, and Semi-Finalists at the World Salsa Championships 2006.

Lee’s dream was to one day start his own dance academy with Shelley, but his life was cut tragically short in 2008 at the age of just 24, when he was a passenger involved in a three car crash in Malaga, leaving the dance community shocked and saddened by the sudden loss.

The Lee Wright Synergy Dance World Memorial Trust set up in his memory (Synergy being the name chosen for his and Shelley's own planned dance school) and has since funded workshops and performance courses to develop both the physical and psychological wellbeing of participants. The Trust specifically targets those who are unable or unlikely to access salsa classes and is unique in that it raises funds within the Salsa community to put back into Salsa-related projects.

Zoe Hodges, of South Croydon, was a good friend of Lee and has been employed by the charity to bring the fun and vibrancy of salsa and street dance to male and female participants aged 16 to 18 years. The Course is completely free and will culminate in a performance in one of London’s premier salsa clubs.

If you fancy swivelling your hips and strutting your stuff details can be found on our Events page or visit the Lee Wright Synergy Dance World Memorial Trust website.
