Established in 1988, Acorns Children's Hospice Trust is a registered charity offering a network of care for over 500 life limited and life threatened children and young people and providing support for their families across the heart of England. These children and young people are not expected to reach adulthood and require specialist care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Acorns is the only organisation that provides this level of care to these vulnerable youngsters whilst offering a range of support services to the whole family to help them cope at every stage of their child's life and beyond into bereavement.
We provide tailored nursing care for each child; short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care at each of our three hospices:
Acorns for the Three Counties
Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Worcester, opened in 2005. The hospice supports children with life limiting and life threatening conditions and their families including Droitwich and the wider areas of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The hospice is small and informal, warm and welcoming, with a real home-from-home feel. There are no uniforms or set routines and the mix of therapy, play and specialist nursing care ensures that Acorns children make the most of every day.
There are 10 specially-equipped bedrooms, a multi-sensory room, family flats so parents can stay close by, and a hydrotherapy pool, which plays a vital role in helping to unlock the potential of many young people. Acorns for the Three Counties has its own adolescent unit to support teenagers. This unit gives adolescents space away from younger children and a degree of independence.
The hospice has two special bedrooms, where children can stay after death and before their funeral, and a peaceful memorial garden. There is an acre of interactive gardens, with outdoor musical instruments and a swing suitable for wheelchair users, as well as a Caribbean-themed garden complete with its own desert island! Acorns for the Three Counties is within close reach of the M5, giving families across the Three Counties quick and easy access to the hospice and all its facilities.
