NEW

There are four strands to this new service:

• A countywide website www.bereavementsupportworcestershire.org.uk where you will find useful information, self-help guides and links to a range of other organisations that can provide help and support

• A telephone helpline for those registered with a GP in South Worcestershire for those who want to talk to someone ( Martley, Evesham, Worcester, Great Malvern, Droitwich, Pershore and surrounding areas) 01905 760934 Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm

• Bereavement Social Worker to provide support for those encountering complex grief

• Bereavement education and training for a wide range of organisations. In addition bespoke awareness sessions will be provided for the bereaved depending on individual need and circumstances

St Richard’s Hospice was formed in 1984 and provides free specialist palliative care for patients and families living with cancer and other life-threatening illness. Each year the hospice team supports in the region of 1,800 people in Worcestershire.

The new £5.25m hospice which opened in 2006 was built following a successful public appeal for funds and the demand for its free services is ever increasing.

Patients and families are cared for in Day Hospice, the 15-bed In-patient Unit or in their own homes by a team including nurses, doctors, a social worker, family therapist, Family Support Workers, counsellors, physiotherapist, occupational therapists and Citizens Advice Bureau worker as well as many trained volunteers. In the In-patient Unit specialist staff are on hand 24 hours a day to manage patient’s symptoms and where patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity if they so choose.

Our wide range of services also includes:

  • Complementary, occupational and creative therapies.
  • Snowdrop Group – a support group for young women living with cancer.
  • Counselling and Family Support Team.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) Adviser.
  • 24 hour on call support.
  • Spiritual Care.
  • Education and Resource Centre.

We are only able to provide all these specialist services with the help of voluntary donations to help raise the £4.2m needed each year.  We are very grateful for any donations, large or small, to ensure we can continue our care.

“I cannot emphasise enough that everyone made father’s last few days, and us around him, so much easier. I know we certainly felt a great weight had been lifted off our shoulders knowing father was in such good hands. Quite simply, the impact you had on all our lives is immeasurable.”
