What is Employee Engagement?
Employee engagement refers to an approach within the workplace, which is designed to ensure staff are committed and engaged to an organisation’s goals and ideals. It’s about creating a set of working conditions which encourage motivation, and fuel the want to demonstrate potential.
Creating Employee Engagement in the Workplace
One of the best ways to create and improve employee engagement in the workplace is to facilitate creative teamwork, to get your staff working together on fun, non-work related projects.
Employee Engagement Ideas!
Here’s some employee engagement ideas courtesy of Alistair Booth, a leading HR consultant and owner of The HR Booth, to get you started!
The Great Dundee Bake Off
Baking is a hot topic at the moment, following the success of BBC 1 TV show ‘The Great British Bake Off’. So why not set your employees a bake off challenge or cake decorating competition? Divide your employees into teams and specify rules which all must abide by, for example, the cake must somehow incorporate your company logo. Then let the magic happen! The challenge will require your employees to exercise their team building and decision making skills, and guess what? They’ll have lots of fun along the way!
Team Assault Course
Take inspiration from all the ‘Tough Mudder’ and ‘Spartan Run’ challenges that are in Vogue at the moment and assign your employees an assault course challenge! Split your employees into two teams and let the games begin. The winners will be the first team to get all members across the finish line. You might want to create a prize or incentive to spur on the competitors to complete the course, or why not create a prize for the employee who encompasses the spirit of the event, as nominated by others? Hosting a challenging event will create a sense of achievement amongst your employees and will create happy memories for years to come! Don’t forget the camera!
Quiz Night
Take your employees out for the night and create a pub-style quiz for everyone to partake in! Conjure a mixture of questions related to your business and combine these with some humorous, general knowledge questions. A quiz would act as a great way to educate new employees, and would prompt existing employees to revaluate what they know about the corporate culture within which they work.
Community Projects
Bolster your corporate responsibility, increase employee engagement within your business and help a worthwhile cause in the process by embarking upon a community project. Why not do some research and see if there is a local garden/play area development project for children’s respite home locally? Getting involved in community projects creates a sense of pride within an organisation, employees become increasingly positive, in the knowledge that they are working for a business that cares.
Feeling inspired?
The best employee engagement strategies are those which are a little ‘out of the box’. What strategies can you, yourself come up with?
