The Snow Queen 2012 Opening Night

This evening I experienced my first ever trip to the theatre as an adult. My friends had a spare ticket for The Snow Queen, tonight being the opening night. I was very excited, my friend was confident I was going to enjoy the show.

The Snow Queen is set around a friendship between two children Gerda and Kai. Kai meets the Snow Queen whilst on an adventure, Kai is tricked by the evil Queen and his heart is frozen; he no longer has any happy feelings. Gerda, distraught that her best friend has not returned from his adventure, sets out an adventure of her own to find Kai.

Her adventure takes her through many experiences, and she is slowly losing hope that she will not be reunited with her dearest friend. With a little help along the way from some of the people and animals she finds stumbles across in the woods, Gerda carries on the search and finally finds herself outside the Snow Queens but will she find Kai?

The show was thoroughly enjoyable; there was something in it for everyone. A classic show for all the family to see. The show runs from now until Saturday 5th January, so there is plenty of time to get the family together for a night out with a difference.

Tickets are available now from The Rep, or online.

Mike Kenny is one of the UK’s leading playwrights specialising in young people’s theatre. He has adapted many children’s stories including the award winning The Railway Children (Waterloo train Station) and The Little Mermaid, which was performed at the Rep a few years ago.
