Choosing the venue for your wedding reception might seem like a straightforward task, but when faced with the vast array of options – from castles and country houses to marquees and hotels – it seems somewhat more daunting. Some people start planning with a dream location in mind, while others are working from scratch; but the main thing to bear in mind while deciding is the enormous part that the venue will play in both yours, and all your guests’ memories of your special day.
The first thing to think about is the practicalities –
o How many guests will you be having?
o How much room will you need for your entertainment?
o Will you need room for a seated meal or a standing buffet?
o Perhaps most importantly, what is your budget?
You will also need to decide whether your ceremony and reception will take place in the same venue, or whether there will be a transition between the two.
Once you have decided on the fundamentals, and found a few venues which fit the bill, you can start comparing such things as prices and payment schedules, food and drink, the quality of the staff, parking, the facilities, guest accommodation, and the potential for decoration. It might also be handy to “think outside the box” – how is the natural lighting for your photographs? Are there any restrictions, such as no loud music after a certain hour or a ban on confetti or candles, which could affect your plans?
With some hard work and a bit of luck, you’ll soon have found the perfect venue for your day, and if all these things have been thought about and accommodated for then it should run without a glitch, and be the most memorable day of your life – for all the right reasons!
