The date has been set for this year’s Hanwell Carnival – Saturday 21st June – and it is seeking its royal family for 2014.
The Queen, princess and prince take pride of place at the head of the procession as it makes its way through Hanwell. They also get to enjoy befitting outfits, a bit of pampering and a ride in a vintage car.
Candidates for the Queen need to be at least 18 years old, while the princess and prince must be eight years or over. The only other criteria are that applicants must be proud of where they live and excited about becoming a community champion.
Candidates can apply via the Hanwell Carnival website – www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk - or through its Facebook page. Judging will take place on Saturday 8 March.
Hanwell Carnival is a free event, run by volunteers for the community, and it takes place in Elthorne Park. It is London’s oldest, first taking place in 1898, and was established to raise money for the Cottage Hospital (now Ealing Hospital).
