An award-winning black comedy about one man's attempt to buck the system and escape reality

A man's life is spiralling out of control. Is he having a nervous breakdown? Is it the pressure of his pointless job? Is he even alive?

Disappearing to start a new life seems like the only way out, so under the guidance of a dubious specialist in Southend, Charlie discards the trappings of his identity as a London ad executive and embarks on a nightmarish journey to escape himself. But if he’s not himself, then who is he? And is he even alive?

This black comedy was the 2006 winner of the Arts Council’s John Whiting Award, which recognises excellence in theatre writing. Fin Kennedy’s exhilarating and extremely funny play ask us the question – what really makes us who we are?

“a piece of new writing that really does restore your confidence in the future of theatre.”  The Stage
