Very friendly staff and tidy hotel, rooms are comfortable and clean. I was cycling through Eastbourne and we decided to stay for one night. We could even keep our bikes in the rooms. Very satisfied, highly recommended!

We visited bank holiday it's our first time here we had room only without breakfast option. The room was a fair size, comfy bed, decent towels, hangers etc very good for a 2 star hotel. The hotel is in a great location central to everything. House keeping good. Would come back have sea view room this time and breakfast.

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights last weekend. Came to see a show at the theatre. We even managed to get a parking space in the road alongside the hotel which £1 per day to park.
Our twin room was nice and clean it had a view of the pier too.
The breakfast could be improved but for the price it was fine. I would definitely recommend staying here if visiting Eastbourne as it is great value for money. The air show was a bonus, The Red Arrows were terrific watched from the beach, and it was free!!!!!

We held a family and friends birthday party at the Afton, hiring their ballroom. The food was excellent quality, the service attentive and the overall support from the events manager was warm and responsive. They have a great music system that takes ipod or similar and cd’s. I would consider booking this venue again.

Spent 5 days here last week with our friends. The hotel is in a great location opposite the pier and is very clean with hard working friends staff. Rooms very good and entertainment every evening also breakfast was very nice and plenty but the evening meals need more choice and much better cooked food or customers will not return which would be a shame.

The hotel is clean and tidy and provides all the necessities, shampoo and soap in the bathroom, clean fluffy towels, tea and coffee in the room and good quality bed linen. However it is very old and can be a bit noisy as they have door closers on all bedroom doors that bang closed. Do not go for breakfast, possible the worst breakfast I have ever had - well I did not eat!.

We arrived on Friday afternoon just one member off staff to cover both reception and the bar area. The greeting was warm and welcoming, We were advised that due to some sort of leak in the kitchen breakfast the next day would be in a sister hotel a few minutes down the road.
Our room unfortunately left a lot to desired, it was originally a twin converted to a double. The curtains on the single window were threaded on a wire . The window had to remain open as this was the only means of ventilation. A major concern was that window could not be locked. The view of air ducts and brick walls not very inspiring There was no where to keep our valuables as there was no safe. This also gave access to the rest of the hotel should unwelcome guests arrive.
The flooring in the reasonably sized bathroom was vynal, and no mat in front of the shower . We were next to the fire door which meant everyone had to pass our room which proved to noisy. The towels were white and fluffy and good quality.
On the 2nd evening after a long day out we wanted to sit in lounge and relax over a quit drink. This was not to be. A party was arranges and within an hour of it starting, it had stilled out from the area it soon took over the whole lounge/ lobby area. We had to abandon our quiet drink and retire to our room at 9:00.
The bed was not too comfortable even with the mattress topper but eventually we got to sleep. We felt that we should have been pre warned so we could make alternative plans. The public areas were very very clean. But not air contioned as advertised, electric fans and windows are not air conditioning
The breakfast was what one would expect, however , the tea / coffee dispensing left a lot be desired both health and safety wise and quality .
I know this has been a critical review, so on the really positive side, the location is superb, opposite the pier, 2 mins to the bus stop, 2 mins to the shopping centre and cafes and restaurants.
I have given the hotel our thoughts and have asked for a response, we are still waiting.

Nice hotel located right on the seafront, which is literally across the road.
Parking could be a problem if staying for extended periods. The owners are very nice and friendly, and we were even given complementary water. Registration took a very long time. Do not pay for breakfast if you need an early breakfast, as the hotel would not accommodate this.
The room was clean and basic with shower and toiletries, tea, coffee. It was somewhat noisy, but this is to be expected, being on the main road
Overall I had a pleasant stay and would be happy to stay here again.

Old school hotel but does what it does and ok if you get a room on a budget price. Close to the prom which is handy though you’ll have to scoot around to find parking. You can get a parking permit from reception for a £1.

We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews but for the money we paid to get B&B and a welcome drink in this hotel, it was absolutely fine. We got this as a deal on a popular website and think for the money its very good value. Our room was quite big and was clean and tidy, with clean white bedding and white towels provided. The décor is very dated but for a night or two was quite satisfactory. The location is great, being just across the road from the pier. The breakfast wasn't the best we have ever had, but this is a 2 star hotel and we all fine. We would go back again for the price we paid.

Great location as basically on the seafront although not many pubs/bars nearby and the hotel bar has zero atmosphere. Buffet breakfast was ok but with many visitors from Europe, queuing does not exist and its a mass free for all. The room was quite comfortable but our shower was a trickle and luke warm. Our friends had a nother room and theirs was good so I think the rooms are a little pot luck. Didnt complain as only stayed overnight. Staff always seemed friendly although working on reception and having to serve at the bar made things slow. We stayed using a Wowcher so at £40 plus breakfast I cannot really complain although I doubt I would visit if I had to pay full price.

Just come back from a week at this hotel ,not wheel chair friendly at all .Very clean comfortable beds and rooms .Breakfast very good but not much choice not told until last day that we could have a choice of eggs ,toasters so slow that ever one was queueing had to walk up and down steps to get meal not good if you are a bit unsteady on your feet head waiter did try to help but i think there was not enough staff. NOW evening meal was so bad cheap cuts of meat and veg stone cold ,lumps in rice pudding with chocalate sauce i dont think i or my party had one good meal .The waitress was so very rude and did not help in any way ,her dress code left a lot to be desired black bra under very dirty blouse and a skirt so short that you could see her under garment when she was clearing tables .Our party of 16 will not go back there, such a shame asit was a nice hotel in a nice place.Would only give it two stars for service

I had my 30th birthday party here and can honestly say Craig (manager) and the bar staff couldn’t have done any more.
Craig had a challenge to begin with when he took over as manager and couldn’t find my booking, after a slight panic, he completely eased all of my worries by accommodating to all of my needs to ensure the night ran smoothly. I had a band, a photo booth and my own food and he accommodated to all of these, being totally flexible with everything. I would highly recommend the Afton Hotel and the team for any function....thanks so much again for ensuring my birthday party was one to remember : )

Just leaving this hotel bad points first: The chef either needs retraining or replacing, upon arrival our toilet seat was broken and still needs fixing after 3 days that's the bad bits out of the way, Now the good points: good location, okay facilities nice staff Nathan the barman and Gosia housekeeping need special thanks as they did everything possible to make sure our stay went well. Our coach has been delayed by an hour and the hotel put out tea and coffee but CHARGED us for them a word to the management if you want return trade you should have made them complimentary

We just spent one night here but had a lovely experience. We booked two rooms for the five of us (3 adults and 2 children): one with two twins beds and one for three people that included a bunk bed for the children (and I think this was the highlight of their trip).

We found the accommodations to be clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. They have quite a large first floor reception area with a bar, an area that seems to be set up for live entertainment or karaoke, and several sitting rooms.

But for me, the best feature was the location which was almost right across from the Eastbourne pier and close to many restaurants. We also happened to be there when there was a concert down near the beach and had a lovely time waking down by the water.

Had a few issues before arrival with no responses to email. We asked for a double with room for a travel cot....but got a twin beds pushed together. We were on the second floor with a great view of the pier. The room was extremely hot due to the fantastic weather. Hotel and room decore is outdated but didn't affect our stay. All in all we had a lovely time and staff were friendly and helpful. Hope to visit next year.

You have to be aware of what you have booked : 1 room in a 2 stars hotel so you get the confort of a 2 stars.
I ranked 3 stars but it deserves 2, the only reason is the price and the very good location (just in front of the Eastbourne pier).
Except that I was disappointed :
- the room wasn’t very clean (dust, window very dirty)
- very noisy in the street and very bad insulation
- very clear curtain : you get the light in the room at 4am
- shower in bad condition

I believe the quality could be improved easily and quickly, what a shame.

But once again : don’t forget the price in comparaison with others hotel.
If you are not very demanding and here just for 1 or 2 nights, I would recommend this place.

Just returned from a weekend break at the afton, havent been here for a while but have been here many many times before, firstly its under new management and it shows, staff situation seems very minimal there was only two people on the breakfast shift in tge morning, and everyone seems so young, my biggest moan is that over the whole weekend no matter how many times we walked through tge bar and lounge area never saw ONE!! Person having a drink or just sitting chilling reading a newspaper it was never like this it always had a good vibe and felt very welcoming, you could here a pin drop in there it was that quiet, there was no evening entertainment which was very unusual you had to go elswhere in the evening to have a drink ( lost a lot of money over the bank holiday) all you want to do after a long day out is to go downstairs and relax with a drink and a bit of music, ive got to say i think there would be more going on in a morgue than here!!! Rooms very clean but could do with a much lighter duvet in the summer months we was in a very very small room on the top floor it was like an oven, lovely new shower but had to run around in it to get wet pressure so bad, it felt more like a budget stopover hotel rather than a holiday hotel like it used to be.

I stayed here for two nights mid-week and absolutely loved it. Fantastic location, clean, well-equipped rooms, and friendly, helpful staff. Nothing was toouch trouble for anyone (not that I asked for much.)

I don't understand the negative reviews. For what I paid, I was astonished at how good it is. My room seemed spotlessly clean to me. People who go around inspecting every corner to find a speck of dust need to get a life. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated but so is my mum's house and I still go and stay with her. Everything works as it should and I imagine the amazing staff would fall over themselves to put it right if something didn't work.

OK there's no Wi-Fi in the bedrooms, but what do you need that for? I sat in the lovely lounge, with a view of the sea, for an hour and sent a few emails when I needed to.

I loved this hotel and will definitely be back. It was a great base for exploring what the area has to offer. Thank you Afton Hotel!
