We stayed here just before Christmas. the service was really friendly, the location is great (right opposite the pier). We enjoyed walking along the seafront and just looking out the window from the dining area. Added bonus that you can bring pets as well. its a Very rare occasion that i will return to the same hotel, but i am as it takes pets, so i will come back with my dad and his dog!

Four of us took advantage of an offer at this hotel between Christmas and the New Year. The hotel is perfectly situated for the seafront and the town. We had a room on the third floor and could see the sea and the pier from our window. There is a lift to make access to upper floors easier. Unfortunately one of our party is unable to use a lift and as we were all ‘of a certain age’, was unable to climb the many stairs to the upper floors. The receptionist, despite the hotel being busy, did find them a room on a lower floor. The staff were friendly and the rooms clean and warm. Our ‘deal’ included an afternoon tea which was very nice and breakfast was quite adequate. For the money we paid it was good but it may help to have a breakfast menu and to train staff on how most guests like breakfast served. That is, that the English sometimes like to have cereal before their cooked food rather than both together or even tell guests to make this clear. We had no such problems but we did notice a couple of people being irritated by this and leaving food that had got cold. Having said that, the staff worked hard to keep everyone happy, the bar area was a nice place to sit and relax and we enjoyed our bargain couple of days.

The Afton is a small hotel right on the sea front so perfectly situated. This was our third stay at The Afton Hotel, always for a Christmas event. Rooms are good value, clean and have everything you need. The Staff are always friendly and helpful. We have never found anything to complain about - especially for the price we pay!

A one-night stay for a friend’s birthday party being held in the hotel.

The room was dated and tired and unfortunately when we walked in the room it was like a sauna and way too hot for our liking. Luckily, we were able to turn the radiator down but it took all night to cool down to a reasonable level. I had to prop open the sash window using the the length of 4"x 1" which I assumed was there for that purpose!

The room was okay, clean and functional although It did smell a bit musty. That said I did have a good nights’ sleep.

The reception and bar staff were pleasant, professional and polite.

We arrived a half hour before the end of the breakfast sitting and as a consequence the cooked buffet items looked a little tired, so I opted for toast and cereal.
The waiting staff were busily clearing tables after we had seated and unfortunately not very attentive and didn’t ask if we would like more tea or coffee. I had requested more toast, but again due to the table clearing this was forgotten. That said, the young male waiter did apologise as we were leaving.

Overall a low budget hotel in a good location.

Yes the building is old and the place is slightly run down but the value for money is amazing the rooms were very clean and had everything you needed. Breakfast was a decent selection of choices, in a slightly bizarre function room but you can’t knock it for the price. The staff were very helpful and we had a lovely sea view. Would definitely come back!

We stayed for 2 nights, the room was very clean, the staff hard working and the hotel in a very good location. Unfortunately we left an Apple laptop in our room and thought we would not see it again but we rang from home and the very honest staff had found it then packed it up for it to be collected. We can’t thank them enough for being so honest and helpful, well above the call of duty.

From the moment we spoke to Craig, the Manager regarding our wedding day he put us at ease and his organisation has been top notch. Nothing was too big or too small and he was a constant support in helping it to go perfectly. We arrived and were greeted like old friends and the staff could not have done any more to help and make our day the amazing day it was! The rooms were lovely and newly renovated, the bed was big and comfortable and the food was just what we needed. We would and will recommend this hotel to anyone we can think of and will without doubt stay here whenever we visit Eastbourne again! Thank you for everything!

My husband and I stayed two nights over bank holiday weekend for £81! Parking was easy outside for £1 for 24 hours. Room very clean and spacious and has been updated fairly recently.
Staff courteous and efficient.
If my only fault would be that they do not seem to do entertainment anymore which is a shame as i think alot more people would stay in and drink there in the evenings. Bingo use to be popular with the more mature visitors.

We visited bank holiday it's our first time here we had room only without breakfast option. The room was a fair size, comfy bed, decent towels, hangers etc very good for a 2 star hotel. The hotel is in a great location central to everything. House keeping good. Would come back have sea view room this time and breakfast.

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights last weekend. Came to see a show at the theatre. We even managed to get a parking space in the road alongside the hotel which £1 per day to park.
Our twin room was nice and clean it had a view of the pier too.
The breakfast could be improved but for the price it was fine. I would definitely recommend staying here if visiting Eastbourne as it is great value for money. The air show was a bonus, The Red Arrows were terrific watched from the beach, and it was free!!!!!

We held a family and friends birthday party at the Afton, hiring their ballroom. The food was excellent quality, the service attentive and the overall support from the events manager was warm and responsive. They have a great music system that takes ipod or similar and cd’s. I would consider booking this venue again.

Spent 5 days here last week with our friends. The hotel is in a great location opposite the pier and is very clean with hard working friends staff. Rooms very good and entertainment every evening also breakfast was very nice and plenty but the evening meals need more choice and much better cooked food or customers will not return which would be a shame.

The hotel is clean and tidy and provides all the necessities, shampoo and soap in the bathroom, clean fluffy towels, tea and coffee in the room and good quality bed linen. However it is very old and can be a bit noisy as they have door closers on all bedroom doors that bang closed. Do not go for breakfast, possible the worst breakfast I have ever had - well I did not eat!.

We arrived on Friday afternoon just one member off staff to cover both reception and the bar area. The greeting was warm and welcoming, We were advised that due to some sort of leak in the kitchen breakfast the next day would be in a sister hotel a few minutes down the road.
Our room unfortunately left a lot to desired, it was originally a twin converted to a double. The curtains on the single window were threaded on a wire . The window had to remain open as this was the only means of ventilation. A major concern was that window could not be locked. The view of air ducts and brick walls not very inspiring There was no where to keep our valuables as there was no safe. This also gave access to the rest of the hotel should unwelcome guests arrive.
The flooring in the reasonably sized bathroom was vynal, and no mat in front of the shower . We were next to the fire door which meant everyone had to pass our room which proved to noisy. The towels were white and fluffy and good quality.
On the 2nd evening after a long day out we wanted to sit in lounge and relax over a quit drink. This was not to be. A party was arranges and within an hour of it starting, it had stilled out from the area it soon took over the whole lounge/ lobby area. We had to abandon our quiet drink and retire to our room at 9:00.
The bed was not too comfortable even with the mattress topper but eventually we got to sleep. We felt that we should have been pre warned so we could make alternative plans. The public areas were very very clean. But not air contioned as advertised, electric fans and windows are not air conditioning
The breakfast was what one would expect, however , the tea / coffee dispensing left a lot be desired both health and safety wise and quality .
I know this has been a critical review, so on the really positive side, the location is superb, opposite the pier, 2 mins to the bus stop, 2 mins to the shopping centre and cafes and restaurants.
I have given the hotel our thoughts and have asked for a response, we are still waiting.

Nice hotel located right on the seafront, which is literally across the road.
Parking could be a problem if staying for extended periods. The owners are very nice and friendly, and we were even given complementary water. Registration took a very long time. Do not pay for breakfast if you need an early breakfast, as the hotel would not accommodate this.
The room was clean and basic with shower and toiletries, tea, coffee. It was somewhat noisy, but this is to be expected, being on the main road
Overall I had a pleasant stay and would be happy to stay here again.
