I have stayed at this hotel several times and found it to be excellent in every way! The owner, Marco, is always in attendance and readily available to talk to. The management and staff are polite, helpful, friendly and very efficient. Rooms are warm in winter and very comfortable. The food is excellent with a very varied menu. All in all I thoroughly recommend this family run hotel.

Long weekend break in a snowy January so pleased that room had radiators that I could turn up or down as I pleased. Room of good standard - flat screen TV - and excellent standard of cleanliness. Meals excellent throughout served by very capable and polite waiting staff. We had a free bar every night between 6pm and 11pm so a jolly time was had by all. Entertainment every night - but let down by the keyboard player on the Sunday night.

Hotel is ideally situated - across the road from the pier and 5 minutes from the shops - my second visit here - I look forward to my next visit.

I also would praise the Afton hotel for their professional and polite atitude to the Visitors duing our reunion in October 2012. I could not fault the front of house staff or the way nothing was too much to do to make the visitors stay pleasent. The rooms very clean and provided with all necessay items to make the stay pleasent - good value for money.
Check in was speedy even though several arrived a bit early to enter the rooms we were made comfortable in the lounge. the food was well prepared and the formal dinner we had was of a standard that I have seen in top london hotels (well done) my only comment is about the staff in the restaurant area for breakfast who need just a little bit more training in customer care and some patience .I
have seen some comments about parking, the hotel run a scheme where for a small fee they provided a scratch card to allow you to park in the permit areas. close by (5 mins) there is also a value for money NCP.
Would I go back YES definately

I have had two meetings here now and I have been impressed on both occasions with the care and attention given to me as a visitor. I have to say their hot chocolates and complimentary biscuits are lovely!

We were very fortunate to be introduced to the owner of this hotel when we did a charity walk along Eastbourne Seafront. We were invited to have coffee afterwards and were treated like royalty. I had never been inside the hotel before and I was very pleasantly suprised, wonderful furnishings and ballroom size floor, this must be a lovely place to attend a dance or even a weekend/week away as this hotel has all the facilities of a 4 star hotel. The benefit of this hotel is its location, right opposite Eastbourne Pier, but behind the giants so that there is no noise when the pier nightclub closes or any of the local bars. Step out of the hotel right onto the beach front and promanade. If I was coming to Eastbourne I would definately stay at this hotel.

We have read Naomi Stevenson's review of her 1 night stay last weekend. We are joint organisers of the weekend event Naomi attended. We have been running weekend events every year since 1976 at the Afton Hotel.
We are upset that Naomi should write such an unjust report. We spoke to Naomi several times during her stay to make her welcome. She didn't mention any complaints to us.
She also said that the live entertainment kept playing Christmas songs. We had live entertainment on Saturday evening for dancing which was mostly Country & Western. Sunday morning a three piece band playing Bluegrass music from America. On Sunday afternoon we had music and dancing by a local Morris Dancing Group. The hotel did have background music in the bar, some of which was Christmas music.
Naomi complained about the Christmas decorations and dinner. This is a tradition for the hotel to treat our visits as a Christmas event. The majority of our guests, who are blind or partially sighted enjoy this fun, with a visit from Santa Clause too.
We have had many favourable comments since our return. Ted Herbert & Valerie Clark

I recently stayed at the Afton Hotel when attending a weekend event organized by an organisation I am a member of. I was only able to stary one night rather than the full 3 nights but I'm glad. The lunch was tiny and stale and there were not enough sfaff. Also, the evening meal was not that great as their combinations are a little odd (such as salad with a roast). As for the breakfast, what they deem to be The Full English is more like half an English as again there was not much.

Although many of the staff were very friendly, a few (including the maid) were not very helpful. Also, even though I stayed not even half way through November, anyone would have thought it was Christmas day as the place wass smothered in decorations and the live entertainment kept playing Christmas songs which to me was far too early. Also, when ordering drinks at the bar, if they had run out of a particular drink, they refused to go and get more from downstairs, and took forever to serve (particularly on a sunday) because they were so short staffed.

On the plus side, the room was clean and tidy and the bed very comfortqble. However don't bank on having a nice power shower and it not that great.

It is also easy to find the Afton Hotel from the main town centre and main bus stops/train station for those using public transport.

Went on a coach trip and stayed at the Afton Hotel . It is right opposite the pier and the Sea.The Hotel is really very nice . the rooms are comfortable and kept beautifully clean. The waiting staff are very quick with the meals, and the food was excellent. Cooked breakfast was 2 rashers of Bacon and it was very good , no fat atall.and egg , sausage, tomato and beens. The evening Meals were just as good. Entertainment was what you would expect , but there was a brilliant magician on the last night. I would definately go back to his Hotel again

It's pier adjacent location is beautiful, it's staff wonderful, and the owners genuinely care about giving you an enjoyable and affordable stay. I'd highly recommend The Afton to anyone looking for a seaside mini-break or use of their function rooms. I've stayed both to take advantage of the lovely scenery on the downs, and to attend a wedding, both stays were excellent. The wedding in particular was lovely and had a quality to it, you wouldn't expect of a 2* hotel.

We recently stayed at the Afton for a 4 night break. We had not planned to stay and had originally booked at another Eastbourne Hotel. On arrival we were told that we had been transferred to the Afton because of problems with our room. This turned out to be a stroke of luck. We ended up having the best short break we have ever had. The staff were welcoming, warm and friendly. Our room was spacious with a large en suite. It was clean and comfortable. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the serving staff. The general feel of the hotel was relaxed and friendly. We have recommended it to friends and family and will definitely be back. For the money it surpassed all expectations.

The hotel staff, rooms and meals were great. Parking was a trial! It was unfortunate there was a very noisy party held in the basement restaurant. So a quite drink in the bar was out..we were glad we had a room at the back which dulled most of the noisy. At breakfast in the basement where the previous nights party was held, the floor was sticky, mucky and filthy from the night before...how long does it take to hoover and mop!To make things worse the tables were being relaid for lunch.

We recently had our 5th short break this year at the Afton hotel. Each time the staff have been friendly, helpful and courteous. We booked half board again, and the evening meals were hot and tasty, as were the breakfasts. The position of the Afton is ideal as within walking distance of most of the attractions. Hope to fit another break in before it gets too cold.

We stayed at the Afton in connection with our wedding reception which was also held at the hotel. From the first time we visited to make enquiries to the moment we left the day after our reception the one thing that shone through was the professionalism and friendliness of every member of staff we met.

The hotel was clean, the food was good, bar prices were very reasonable and everyone had a great time. The rooms weren't huge, but again were clean, functional and with a comfortable bed and great views from the room we had.

In summary it is very easy to forget this is a two star hotel and we are already thinking of the next occasion we could celebrate at the Afton.

The hotel is opposite the pier making it a good base for your seaside holiday. The staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are not to small and have your basic requirements which are needed as well as WiFi coverage in the rooms. The front rooms of the hotel have good views of the pier and the sea. There can be a bit of noise from the street at night due to people leaving the bars at the pier.
The Hotel has a big bar area and a nice sunny lounge with views of the pier. As the hotel has coach parties the breakfast can be busy.

A lovely well decorated budget hotel. Only concern during our stay was that the fire extinguisher by the lift on the third floor was out of pressure, in addition to this stairs were not that well sign posted. due to the fire risk in hotels this did concern me.

Everything else was perfect

Our stay at the Afton was very welcoming, thanks to a very pleasant group of staff they have there.
Our first stay in a 'dog friendly' hotel which was just that - staff and residents made us feel very at home.
I will certainly recommend to others.
Thank you
