My husband and two young children went to the National Trust operated site at Birling Gap. They had an activity on for young children where they could do an art activity but unfortunately we didn’t precheck and missed it.

The lady who was tidying and prepping for the next day came over and had a chat with me. I am afraid I have forgotten her name but she was fantastic! She told me all about the other activities that were available that we might of missed such as fossil hunting and rock pooling and the children’s kit that we could rent for a small donation. Honestly, I felt that we don’t go anywhere else this month with the NT, we got our monies worth of subscription through this visit.

The lady showed me the tide times and I took a picture in case we returned. Once on the beach my 6 and 4 year old had a fantastic time searching for creatures and fossils with the backpacks, the laminated reusable identity sheets and the collection boxes. Once we had explored we had a visit to the shop and the visitors centre just before closing which was very interesting and interactive.

Eventually we went up the hill to see the view. I use a walking stick so this was no mean feat, but so worthwhile. I would highly recommend visiting. I didn’t know in advance this was a NT site as I never prechecked, but now I know to remember to check my app next time in case another gem of a site is close by to where we are visiting.

Thank you, we really loved our visit!

My heart sank when we drew up and saw the packed car park and vehicles on the verge all the way to the National Trust centre. However once we'd walked up the track onto the Downs, the crowds soon dispersed and we carried on up to the lighthouse and enjoyed the magnificent coastal scenery in both directions, Those white cliffs seem to symbolise our country's history, especially in the war years.

It's a beautiful place. There was quite an interesting visitor centre with displays explaining the history of the area's geology, but the real pleasure for me was the walk along the cliff top on a beautiful windless summer's day.

If you travel to London few times and wish to visit a unique nature for a fun experience, you should plan a visit to Seven Sisters Cliff.
This amazing nature just an hour away train from London city, you can take train from London Victoria station to either Eastbourne or Brighton (Seaford), and taking local buses to the Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor Centre.
Then from the visitor centre, you may chose one of the path walkway to either climb to the top hill or the beach side. Recommended taking the up hill walkway instead of the beach side unless you like to visit the cliff hotel (another walk tour).
Do be careful when reaching the edge of the cliff face, nothing protect from falling from 100m down the cliffs, so just stay a safe distance and it already enuf for you to enjoy the amazing and beautiful nature.
Many tips for this trip, and if you need any advise, you may message me, and i love to answer and help. Last but not least, check the weather forecast before visit, a good weather will make your day. So stay safe and enjoy ya!

It is nice to be able to walk right up to the chalk face of the cliff and look at it. The beach is a shingle beach so isn't comfortable to walk on but people were out on it and in the water. There is a nice gift shop and National Trust shop as well.

We went to Birling Gap in July 2019, it is maintained by the National Trust so you will need to pay for the car park if not a member....
It was busy, a very popular spot in the Summer and lots of tourists were taking selfies, including me!
We climbed down the metal steps to play on the stony beach, it’s beautiful with the Seven Sisters (now eight sisters actually) providing the backdrop.
There are fantastic views from the cliff top and the beach, you can’t help but be impressed by nature here.
There is a cafe, shop and information centre which tells you about the cliffs, how they were made and why there are now eight sisters!
Birling Gap is well worth a visit but check the tide times or you might not be able to enjoy much of the beach, only the cliff top area.

This location cannot be beaten for views of chalk cliffs. The walk along the cliff top is bracing and well worth it. National Trust facilities at Birling Gap are perfect for the location - decent toilets and a good cafe.

We visited on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon so it was pretty busy, but the cafe staff were doing a good job at getting people served and the wait on the food was only 15 minutes. The selection isn't the largest, but what they do have is good quality and tasty. The scenery is breathtaking - shame we couldn't get a boat trip to see it from the other angle.

A glorious walk from Birling Gap to Cuckmere Haven.

Butterflies, wild flowers, planes, birds, views.

Several benches.

Refill water bottle station at Cuckmere Visitor Centre. Toilets & a cafe (not used).

Caught bus 13X back to Birling Gap - not as frequent as 12 buses which stop at East Dean.

An exhilarating stroll along one of England's most picturesque and recognisable coastlines. Plenty of places to park, a gift shop and places nearby where you can eat and quench your thirst.

Staying in the area and wanted to see the coastline here . The view of the cliffs was beautiful - access to beach very easy and safe - free parking if you are a national trust member but not expensive otherwise - quite busy as it was a sunny day but there was so much car park and beach this wasn’t a problem at all -the beach looks perfect for families with young children - mostly small pebbles but sandy in parts - water calm and shallow so very safe - cafe and shop very nice and efficient . The view of the chalk cliffs is spectacular - there is a room attached to shop explaining about the geology and erosion . All in all a great afternoon

This has to be one of the most iconic coastal walks in the UK. On a fine weather day the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters are truly spectacular.
We utilised the car park at the Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor centre where you can park under the trees all day for £4 and utilse the cafe and toilets there before setting off down the Cuckmere River Estuary to join the South Downs Way footpath that will take you over the Seven Sisters and then caught the 13X bus back from the Birling Gap.
It is a challenging walk with a fair few climbs and descents and decent walking footwear should be worn and water taken, but the views along the coastal path are truly stunning and rewarding.

Absolutely loved the place. White cliffs, tides receding revealing the plinth pebble filled beech and long walk ways. Great for a family day out. The beech was clean and well cared for with the light house to one side. Nothing less that one would expect of a National Trust property. Must visit. Free parking for National Trust members. There is a cafe serving hot and cold food, toilets, visitors centre and a shop. Highly recommended.

The Cafe here is large with lots of options. It also accepts dogs.
Only had coffee but it was very nice. You can also refill your water bottles here.
The National Shop was well worth a look and the adjoining Museum very informative. The second-hand book section is an excellent addition.

We visited as a stop off point on the Eastbourne Sightseeing bus route (but as NT members might well go back and take advantage of free parking). The National Trust runs an interesting little visitors centre with a history of the gap and its cliffs, plus a few things to keep younger children entertained. There is also a shop and cafe.

There are great views along the coast, including towards the Seven Sisters, and paths along the coast in both directions. Access to the beach is via a metal stairway, around 50 steps. We managed this by folding up our pushchair and carrying it down without too much drama. The shingle beach is a lovely setting, and our two young boys spent ages happily throwing stones into the sea. As a geography teacher it was great to see s place up close that I normally refer to in a textbook! Given the erosion rates and risks, it was surprising to see some people letting children play and scramble right at the foot of the cliffs - even my 4-year old knew to stay well clear...

There are toilets and baby change facilities back up by the centre.

A great visit, well enjoyed.

Now that Wow Wow woW isn't just representative of my time here. I genuinely did go wow. It is a beautiful place. Those Wow's represent the hills of the seven sisters too! (Sort of 😉). This is not an easy walk, but is a genuinely rewarding walk. You'll see some of the most beautiful coastline England has to offer (Movies are filmed here for a reason), but prepare properly. Take plenty of liquid, make sure you have lots of camera battery and memory capacity, and take cash too. There are cafes and (free) toilets at the Birling Gap, but it is just basic food, and it is very busy. Between the birling gap and Eastbourne is a small shop selling drinks and ice cream at the lighthouse on top of the cliff, but to get access to the road if you need it involves even more hills (except at river Cuckmere). And potentially dodging farm animals like cows

My journey was from Seaford to Eastbourne, going back along the river Cuckmere to Exceat, then back to the coast. The route is very busy, and with lots of people, but the views are beyond beautiful. Emerald green fields amongst bright yellow corn fields, white cliffs, bright blue skies with white fluffy clouds, and deep blue seas as far as the eye can see. If there is a picture of what England is all about, this area is it

Final words. If you can do the whole distance in one go, make sure you do it in stages. You won't regret any of it ☺️

A great little beach location to spend the day, very good amenities up the solid steel staircase to the Birling Gap cafe' and shop etc with plenty of toilets and good food/drink selection plus ice cream.
Beach great for families, but bring some shade and stay away from the crumbling cliff walls as prone to drop.
When the tide is out some great rock pools and you can go paddling or swimming in the sea - very popular with families.

Called in to see this amazing site of sheer chalk cliff faces best seen from the beach. Very busy area but a good place for walking. There is a large tea room for a snack and drink too. Well worth a visit.

I never get used to the beauty of the white cliffs, even though I live here. Our favourite places to go for a swim are Birling Gap and Cuckmere Haven, even when they are busy. I am always impressed that people from all over the world can find their way here, even though it might involve a journey on local buses or a longish walk. The combination of white chalk, blue sky and sea and green grassland make for an iconic English scene that is justifiably famous. It’s also beautiful in the Winter when the weather is wild. The walk from Cuckmere Haven to Birling Gap is hard work but hugely worthwhile, revealing fresh views of the cliffs and sea at every turn.
