Not very easy to arrive, best alternative is to take the touristic bus, lets you enjoy also the trip.
There is a shop (National Trust) and café, good to relax, get far away views and let time pass by...

This is such a great place to visit.

We picked a sunny but windy day. The views are fantastic and the climb to the lighthouse is a relatively gentle hike and well worth it.

It's about 10 minutes drive from Eastbourne and well worth it.

Great place to go for a day out from Eastbourne - characteristic place just off the seven sister park !

Took 4 year old and she loved the rock pools, one word of advice would be check tide times as I imagine the good stuff is only accessible at low tide. There's no cover either so bad weather would be tough to deal with

My sister and I often visit Birling Gap and always begin with a coffee and cheese scone in the cafe. The coffee is always piping hot and the cheese scones are huge and so cheesy with just a dash of herbs. The staff are always so pleasant and it is such an advantage to have a section of the cafe designated to dog owners, particularly on a wet and windy day.
The walk up to the Belle Tout lighthouse is great cardiovascular exercise and the view from the top is incredible with the sea on one side and fields on the other.
Would highly recommend Birling Gap but care must be taken not to go too near the edge.

Lovely views from the viewing platform, lovely NT shop too, we were fascinated by the visitor centre and all the history!

Most people flock to Dover to see the famous white cliffs, but why not venture to Birling Gap instead, where the white cliffs are more impressive, you can get closer (alyjough keep away from the steep cliff edges) and there is even a rare sandy beach available for those wanting a dip. A hidden trrasure waiting to be explored.

We arrived at low tide and spent several hours happily catching crabs (children aged 15 and 9). There are thousands of rock pools at low tide as well as a small stretch of sand. By high tide, the beach is covered right up to the pebbles but the water is very clean and perfect for a swim. (There is no lifeguard). There is a National Trust Car Park (charges apply) but we parked on the road for free. There is an excellent café which allows dogs in part of it, a decent gift shop, plenty of WCs and a fascinating Visitor Centre detailing the cliff erosion for which Birling Gap is famed. There are minimal waste bin facilities - you need to look for one or take it home with you. A really fantastic family day out if you are not bothered about making sandcastles!

Birling Gap is famous for the cliff erosion and houses becoming perilously close to the edge. The view much of what you would expect. There is a pleasant cafe and visitor centre worth a visit. Some nice walks can be had from here. The only slight negative some would say is the charge for car parking.

We went here to do some rock pooling however, being the silly mum I am, I forgot to check the tide times and the tide was in! BUT we still had a fab time, it was very busy, had to park on the road, although this was actually a blessing as it saved us a fortune in parking! Lots of steps down the cliff to get to the sea, didn't bother us but thought I'd mention it, busy beach but plenty of space for everyone. Would suggest some sea shoes as pebbly. Kids loved it though, lots of people swimming. Just as we left could see some great rockpools emerging so we will be back! Cafe at the top looked lovely too with terrace overlooking the sea!

Nice place to go for a walk, please be aware there are steep metal steps down onto the beach.
Nice scenic views of the sea and surrounding areas. Gets busy at peak times. You do have to pay for the car park. Toilets are available.

My husband and I visit Birling Gap at least once a week all year round, we just love it.
I have watched it change over the years, what with the numerous cliff falls ------ I do wish visitors would keep away from the edge of the cliffs, they can fall at any time.
We love to walk, not as far as we used to but can still climb up to Belle Toute without any trouble-------- infact last Sunday with the high westerly wind it was harder coming down than going up. On return to the car park there is the excellent National Trust cafe, shop and centre wher you can get a welcome cuppa and cake or a jolly good meal.
If you are coming to Birling Gap from Eastbourne you can take the Open Top Tourist Bus from the pier which does a round trip over Beachy Head and back through the Downland village of Eastdean, its runs regularly during the summer months and provides an interesting commentary, its one of those trips you can hop on and off, we`ve done it a few times and really enjoyed it, stopping off at our favorite Birling Gap.

The cafe is a touch of yesteryear, but when you walk to the edge of the steps, there is a tremendous view..to the left.. a row of houses,, precariously near to the crumbling edge..and a wonderful coastline bracing itself to the open sea...When windy the roaring surf crashes up the beach, its white surf trying to conquer the soaring cliffs..
The steps are a little steep so not for the unsteady..but down on the beach you are dwarfed by magnitude of it all
your camera wont capture it all !!!!!

lovely spot for a picnic, and educational too ! if your fit enough to go down the steps, its a lovely beach at low tide to go rock pooling and show the kids a lot of sea-life!

visited Birling Gape with family, parked free as National trust members. Exhibition in old hotel was very interesting and proactive, learned a lot of about the coastal erosion, history of site and wildlife and helpful NT volunteers had lots of information to share - and it was FREE.

Good cafe with lovely views of coast. Nice walks along the cliffs. See it soon before it disappears into the sea.

Well I came on a pretty windy day. Able to park in the car park for free as I am a National Trust member. However, many people park on the verges nearby without issue. I was unable to reach the beach as it was closed due to the weather, otherwise you take a stairway down from the car park. A few houses nearby which might not be here for long due to erosion. Very good visitor centre and café with no entrance fee to non members.

Our first visit to Birling Gap parked in the National Trust car-park (free to members) Took the metal steps down to the beach. Stunning cliffs the views are amazing. The beach is pebbly so quite difficult to walk along. Plenty of rock pools to explore. After the beach took a short walk up onto the cliff top you get a different perspective from there. The row of houses near the cafe look precariously close to the edge. A wonderful place for walkers of all abilities. The erosion is an inevitable problem for this coast-line.

We took a trip here on the Eastbourne sightseeing bus. A very pebbly, but beautiful beach and not particularly busy considering it was August! Great place for rock pooling. Lovely little shop and museum area.

A great spot to start a walk, or just spend some time enjoying the seaview. I believe that fossils can be found underneath the cliffs, but we didn't do that.

Set high on the cliff tops with amazing views and great walks. Beach reached by man made walkway and steps down as cliffs eroding. Lovely National Trust cafe and shop with good information about the cliffs.
