It makes my eyes open and feel like a flying birds in the sky. Lots of big cliffs and sea waves along the multi million feet coast line...incredible. However, it better to have a cafe there!!

This beach is great when the tide is out. You even get areas of sand. You can go rock pooling, paddling as the water isn't deep as well as enjoy the history, see the erosion of the cliffs and how nearly half the fisherman so cottages have gone over the edge. (Important tip!)Don't sit too close to the base of the cliffs! The kids love it here. There's also a restaurant with food and light refreshments at the top of the cliffs. Well worth a visit. Plus gorgeous sunsets on a summers evening.

We live just outside Eastbourne but until retiring recently have never had time to visit Birling Gap. We have been missing a wonderful spot with beautiful views. We went on a mid-week afternoon so there were no children around but would imagine it gets very busy at weekends and school summer holidays. The car park was full but most people were walking the cliffs or down on the beach. There is a good viewing platform above safe but steep steps giving access to a pebbly beach but with some sand when the tide is out. Run by the National Trust the car park is free to members but there is a small charge for other visitors. There is a very good cafe with ample outside seating where you can enjoy an ice cream or cream tea listening to the waves. The National Trust shop is the best I have visited with lots of lovely gift ideas for all ages. There is a very informative visitor information centre, toilets and a lovely coastal themed garden. We will certainly be returning in the very near future.

This beach has the most amazing rock pools at low tide. It has excellent on site facilities eg toilets, cafe, shop, visitor centre. Parking is national trust.

Set between the lovely village of East Dean and Beachy Head, the visitor centre is really welcome. There is a display of the effects of coastal erosion in the Seven Sisters section of the South Coast which is made all the more interesting with the cliff edge right outside. The National Trust shop and cafe are their usual high standards.

It's a lovely place to see, you might want to go earlier in the day as the café closes at 5pm but the area is nice to walk. the steps down are pretty steep so perhaps not suitable for mobility issues.

Beautiful place, national trust so free parking for members.
A bit windy even on a sunny day but an ideal place for a walk and to blow the cobwebs away.
Cafe is nice and plenty of tables, there are also a few tables outside where you can sit and look out to sea (providing the weather is nice).

I am walking along the South Coast, doing a 50at50 challenge to raise money for Cancer Research.
This was a wonderful place to stop and enjoy a sandwich before pushing on to Newhaven.
The visitor centre is fascinating and well worth dropping in to, but the hero for me was the clean and long beach. Worth exploring, especially if you enjoy a bit of solitude.

We stopped off at Birling Gap on the Open Top Bus tour. It was well worth spending a little time here. Great views of the cliff,, the Seven Sisters, and the beach which involves some steep stairs to access. There is an interesting NT information centre here. If in Eastbourne this should be on your "Must Do" list. If travelling by car there is a car park here which involves a paymemt.

Called in here on the open top bus from Eastbourne. Great views of the South Downs and steps down to the beach give you a great view of the Seven Sisters cliffs. Excellent National Trust tea room with beautiful sea views is perfect for a sweet treat, but there is also plenty of free picnic spaces and toilets.

Easy walk along the coast, very suitable for people who wanted great scenery and yet don't want to really hike. We actually stayed in Brighton and bought a day pass that brings us to Eastbourne, and then after having lunch in Eastbourne, we took a cab to beachy head and started our hike along the coast there. Arriving at Birling Gap within 2 hours. Fantastic scenery and we walked all the way down to the beach.

I'll highly suggest to find a day with lowest chance of rain to visit though, we walked through the rain for some part of it and it is really no fun at all.

The walk along the cliffs tops is easy going, the views are spectacular. The café at N.T. is large with a good variety of food & drink.

It's worth a visit if you are looking for good views and fancy a sit down. You can walk down to the beach area but it is all pebbles so isn't much fun to walk on for a long period. There is access to the downs walk but you will have to be a little fit to do that without a struggle.

Simply put well worth it for the views and a short visit.

This attraction has access to the beach via steps. It features a well stocked café, much deserved if you have walked from Beachy head. There is also a restaurant, shop and toilet

Packed with people and cars - they had spilled out of the car park, all along the approach road. A nice view of the Seven Sisters, and a beautiful coastal garden near the gift shop, buzzing with bees and butterflies, but the crowds of people detracted from the natural attraction of the coastline and surrounding scenery. Probably much quieter if you visit during the week.

If you're in the area for a visit or even if you live here then Birling Gap is a must if you want to relax by the sea, without a lot of the traffic you get near the town seafront. By driving down Beachy Head road past the Belle Tout lighthouse you are greeted by rolling fields and the cafe on the cliffs at Birling Gap itself.

Its quite easy to access as there is ample parking, toilet facilities and somewhere to get a bite to eat. Access to the sea is via a metal stairway down which also hangs over the cliffs so it is an ideal place to snap some photos of the Seven Sisters cliffs. For walkers theres a few options, down next to the sea, up towards the lighthouse, or the countryside walk towards East Dean. Its definitely a suntrap and a must in my book for summer.

We parked at the car park and got out to walk to the lookout. Fantastic view both ways. Something special about this bit of coast but understand why it is so vulnerable as it can collapse at any time

This was part of the bus hop on hop off tour and it is absolutely beautiful!!! The views were amazing and we walked on the beach which was so calming and nice! It was quite busy with a mixture varying from families, dog walkers to more couples like us and friends. You could dip your feet in the sea if you were wearing the right shoes and go looking for crabs and small fish in the rock pools which we tried to do but didn't have the right shoes!!! After we went back to the top of the cliff/hill things and there was a restaurant and shop where I purchased a few postcards and then we had a drink in the cafe before heading back. It was lovely

Set in the Southdown national park and part of the seven sisters this is a great place to explore the Southdowns and the coast.

A great little cafe served delicious coffee and food. The national trust shop is next to an interesting exhibition with information about the local area.

A pleasant walk inland takes you to East Dean village green featuring another cafe and the historic Tiger Inn.

This is a great place to blow away the cobwebs.

Just did a much longer review on the Seven Sisters Country Park & mentioned Birling Gap in that. The National Trust Centre/shop & cafe are all very good. Will have to use Pay & Display in carpark. We found it a worthwhile visit.

The Seven Sisters Cliffs and Birling Gap are amazing to see! So much prettier and more quaint than these white cliffs of Dover! The visitors center is very informative and seeing the remnant of old buildings falling into the sea is awe inspiring. Highly recommend a stop here for History, shop and ice cream!

Birling Gap belongs to The National Trust but is free to visit there. It is of historic interrest as the chalk cliffs are gradually eroding into the sea. I have visited over many years and many of the cottages have been lost to the sea. Birling Gap hotel is still open but the cliff edge is getting nearer each year. The beach is accessed by steps.
