Outstanding experience visiting Birling Gap. I took the 13X bus from Eastbourne Pier and did 2-3 of the walking trails from the National Trust website. (I downloaded their app but it was useless because there's no cell service or wifi at the visitor centre.) It was an outstanding experience walking those trails, seeing those sites, and taking it all in. Great cafe and gift shop, too.

If you are in the area, probably having been to Beachy Head (I would say it is the most stunning view in the area) then this is worth seeing on the way but would not be the first choice of view if you're time limited. If you can, park up at Beachy Head in the visitor centre, it's free whereas the car parks dotted around are not, and take the scenic walk down along the coast here.
Visitors centre at Birling Gap is very interesting and interesting to see how the cliffs have been shaped by erosion over the years.
Beach is filled with fossils so makes a great place to sit down and take in the views whilst checking out the stones for treasures and shells.

Visited today for a cuppa and cake. Lovely Gluten Free Lemon Cup Cake. Lots of staff around, very helpful. Need more sofa type seating as it was very comfortable to sit on, but had to wait for it to be available.

beautiful coastal walk, have to be careful of the winds. Part of National Trust, had a nice cafe for the start or to end a circular walk, or continue to Beachy Head.

Walked along beach and up to lighthouse. Very windy but exilerating. Nice National trust cafe for tea cake, toilets clean. Good fun searching rock pools for weaver fish and crabs!

A very popular viewpoint with short walks to cliff top vistas - The car parks and cafe were rammed so we did not bother trying to get drinks and eats there as was the intention, we simply headed back to Eastbourne for refreshments.

Stunning views of Seven Sisters. The Centre has lots of information, and hands on explanation as to why and when things happen to the cliffs and land around it,by the sea.It even has marking and dates, marked out on the floor, when the next erosions are expected. Very interesting place to visit, and it's free. While you are there, treat yourself to someone nice from the lovely cafe. This also, has amazing views.
If you catch the tide right, you can walk along the pebbled beach, which is very sheltered.
Although,it can be extremely windy as well, depending on the time of year.

We like the wheelchair access to the cafe and information centre at Birling Gap. The Centre has lots of information and the layout good for a wheelchair users. The cafe is spacious and we love and recommend the cheese scones especially when they have just come out of the ove - yummy :) Accessible toilet and blue badge parking spaces. Gravel surface carpark. Great views of the sea and white cliffs from top of steps going down to beach. Can be very windy here - hold onto your hats!

Took my kids there for an exploration of rock pools for a school project, so many rock pools to look at, and lots of sea life to be found. If your not interested in rock pools you an sit on the beach and enjoy the surrounding views.

I've lived in this area for thirty years and in that time much has changed at Birling Gap, three of the National trust houses have fallen off the cliff, the original stairs have gone, the hotel is now a tea room and you have to pay for parking.

It is, however, an interesting place to visit: on occasions you can actually witness erosion taking place, the evidence of the changes which have taken place is there for all to see. There is also a stunning view of the Seven Sisters and the coast beyond it. The National Trust has come up with some innovative solutions to the dangers associated with erosion. They have made some chalk and flint constructions to make sure cars don't get too close to the edge and the barriers to stop people straying into dangerous waters are moveable, so that when the next piece of cliff disappears they can move them inland a few feet.

You can also have a nice cup of tea in the traditional British tea rooms. There is a pictorial history of the site on the walls which chronicles the changes that have taken place. The National Trust volunteers are friendly and informative. A special place to spend a couple of hours, make sure you get there before the whole place disappears...

Good view of the chalk cliffs, and you can see how they so easily they fall into the sea.
Café and toilets handy for those walking along the cliff tops. There's no better walking country in the south east than this stretch of the South Downs.

We visited this place back in December first and just some weeks ago again. The view couldn't have been different. The big chalk boulders are overgrown with moss (or similar) and they moved!!! Nature in action. No better place to show the kids how powerful water can be. Also saw some freshly broken down pieces, which we found interesting. As it's coastline take a jumper just in case as even in the summer as it can turn cold quickly. If you like this kind of trips it's very easy to spend hours there wondering on the beach.
The sunset was beautiful too.

Lovely countryside and lovely view out to sea, however I couldn't go down to the shore due to a fear of heights and the steps being very open I could have managed if the steps had been different and more enclosed, this is not a complaint but just to make others aware. I didn't realise when we decided to go that they were not suitable. There is a little museum and shop attached to a lovely little cafe run by the National trust.

It gets very crowded at the weekend. The beach is stony and rocky but well worth a stroll to look at the white cliffs. The road there is also very picturesque.

With apologies to Dover, Birling Gap really is a lovely place to start your hike towards Eastbourne along the beautiful White Cliffs of "Better than Dover."

Tip: If you don't want to pay and display for parking, you can try parking along the road where it is allowed. You can also join the National Trust and enjoy free parking for a year at any of the National Trust sites. Birling Gap parking is provided by the National Trust. Otherwise, there is parking in the large lot off the road -- you just need to pay to park.

There is a great little place to stop for a refreshment at the top of the cliff as you head in the direction towards Eastbourne. However, there are no bathroom facilities at the stop, so make sure you take care of that business in Birling Gap before heading out.

Amazing numbers of hikers. The views were incredible in all directions -- South towards the sea, North towards the Downs (lots of sheep), East towards the Seven Sisters and the Channel, West towards Eastbourne the lighthouse and the Channel. It was a wonderful experience.

Great place to come for either a walk along the coastal path and headland, or spend time on the beach. The white cliffs are whiter than Dover! Stunning in every way.

Fabulous views of the Seven Sisters and a metal stairway takes you down to the pebbly beach where the hardy can have a swim. It seemed rather popular with teenagers on the beach. The cafe was nice but had run out of a few things so during a busy summer weekend I don't know how they will cope. A nice little exhibition adjacent to end shop/cafe.

A world heritage site on a sunny day the perfect place to sun bath. Make sure you remember a foam mattress as it has a pebble beach. The beach is reached by four flights of stairs but it is worth it. The car park is very reasonable at £4 for the day
