Birling Gap car park is run by the National Trust. There is also a refreshment building here too. The landscape is changing as the houses are slowly claimed by the sea. When in use the beach can be reached by the steps provided, and there are great photographic opportunities. The rangers are often there and can also answer your questions. One year I was shown where a rare orchid could be seen.

Been a few times, lovely little spot. Got a cafe at the top too. Best if you do a walk to or from somewhere and end up here (Eastbourne/Beachy Head).

Wonderful cliff and sea shots with cafe and car park.
There are good steps to the beach and you may like to walk hand-in-hand with the sun coming down on a romantic evening.

Visited here several time National Trust now runs the cafe which mean prices have gone up a bit but the scones and the view are well worth it you have to pay to park if your not a member though shame as I am sure it deters people from stopping too long

This place has very high and white cliffs with interesting lighthouses, one of them built in 1832 has been transformed in an incredible bed and breakfast with 360 degrees views of the English Channel and the Seven Sisters (www.belletoute.co.uk )

Great walk on the beach, could let the dog off the lead!
Disappointment was the cafe was closed as could have done with a cuppa...
Grat views of the cliffs and back to the Severn Sisters...

Great location on a sunny day. Free parking as the machine had broken, not complaining. Wonderful views. Busy National Trust cafe with clean toilets.

Having just trekked around India, I came back to Birling Gap and asked myself why go to these far away places when Birling Gap is so close to hand. On a bright winter's day, the views along the coast are amazing; if the tide is far enough out, the seashore and its rock pools are of great interest. The walks you can do (either way along the coast, up and down the chalk cliffs) are the best I know anywhere in the world; and you can choose your length to suit available time and fitness (for example, Beachy Head pub is about 1 hour's walk).
The cafe has been refurbished in the last few years and is now run by the National Trust. At present (February 2013) the pub is shut but seems to be undergoing some form of renovation so hopefully will re-open.

The place has improved facilities now that the NT has taken over and modernised the restaurant and is a good place to walk the downs or view the seven sisters cliffs

Good place to jump if need be.It is a cliff andit has a carpark . At the bottom of the cliff is the sea , sometimes about twice a day the sea reaches the cliff then it goes back again .This is a daily occurance even on public holidays .

It's kind of like Narnia, except you can still go there after you are twelve. The views are spectacular on both sides, the springy downs are almost like walking on a spongy trampoline, and it is difficult to put into words. Magical!

Bit windy at times, but the views definitely make up for it. Some nice walks around there, too. I love taking my camera there and I always get lucky.

Birling Gap is a wonderful place, sadly suffering from erosion of the cliffs. Very nice to sit and relax on the stony beach, beneath the chalk cliffs. A flight of stairs lead to the beach. Sometimes, the car park gets full (fee), and there is a bar / snack bar to provide refreshments.

Stunning views. It's coastal chalk cliffs at the end of the downs, so it's a miracle if it isn't breezy! However the weather was savage (almost dangerous) during our visit. Tea rooms cosy, weatherproof, welcoming & amazing cakes! (they do hot meals too). Car-park rough & rutted. Pay & display, but fee refunded if you spend over a tenner in the tea rooms.
Magnificent walks along the cliffs along some of Britains' most iconic landforms. You can go from teashop to teashop!

We have been to Beachy head a few times but never drove past it. If you do you get to the Birling Gap, very nice. It was sunny but very windy and cold when we went but it was very nice and next time we shall spend a bit more time here. You can get onto the beach from here as we'll. Note to keep away from the cliffs when your on the beach, cliff walls falls at any time.....

We visited on 30th. December, 2012, and thought that it is a brilliant place. I was hoping for the cafe to be open for a cup of tea but it was closed.

The cliff is a majestic natural phenomenon but would be glad if the information put up outside the cafe was less run down.

All in all, a nice place to enjoy nature.

Always windy. Maybe surfers down on the foreshore. Can picnic down the stairs or stay at the top in the cafe and just enjoy the view.

The previously free car park is now paying although free to National Trust members but people of Eastbourne and around are now expected to pay to see their local seascape and beach. The national trust also runs a pathway up to Bel Tout and also in the lee of the cliff over to woodland. Regrettably this is used as a dog lavatory with owners not bothering to clear it up off the path and it smells in warm weather.
The great thing is that natural british ponies ( in this case Exmoor) are being used to graze the land - absolutely brilliant -well done National Trust.
The cafe is poor - compared to other national trust cafes- scones sometimes burned and always dry coffee weak. We all thought it was going to improve when the last tenants lease ran out - well it has improved but needs National Trust representatives to visit as mystery shoppers and try other tea rooms or even the pubs locally to compare.
And often the cooking staff come out in dirty aprons and I mean dirty not just one days' mess from cooking and they also push their hair back with their hands and then touch food. Proper uniforms and a food hygiene rep would be good.
So as the beach and country side has always been beautiful and worth a visit thats amazing. But National Trust - GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER _ oh yes and your car parking charges are atrocious.
The adjoining pub which used to be pleasant to sit on a summer evening and look at the sea is hardly ever open summer or winter. The cafe closes too early .
So really its all gone down somewhat . I see there is a space to say 'charge for this attraction' Yes indirectly there is - what used to be totally free now commands pretty hefty carpark charges. And whilst they say if you spend £10 on food the car park is free, the food is not good either so you would not spend money on it

Very corporate...being national trust...no atmosphere which is a shame given the location.

The weather is still windy as we arrive at Birling Gap, but we are free of rain for the time being. The view along the white chalk cliffs is dramatic. Called the Seven Sisters because there are seven distinctive promontories or eroded hills between Birling Gap and the town of Seaford.

We are amazed watching the crazy surfers down below us. The water must be freezing.

I like to walk along the Seven Sisters, usually starting at Cuckmere Haven and ending at Birling Gap. At Birling Gap there is a new National Trust run cafe serving teas, soups, and light meals. If you're there its worth walking up the hill to see Belle Tout lighthouse which has been converted to a B&B.

Birling Gap has a free car park which is a big bonus. The view from the cliff top is lovely. There are steps down to the beach which is shingle.
The food at the cafe is basic but good.

One of our favourite places to take guests from overseas (together with Beachy Head and Alfriston village). Sometimes just a quick stop to see the sea and the stunning views of the chalk cliffs, especially on a windy day. Also a great place to stop if you are walking the Seven Sisters. And we also visit for longer periods in the summer, spending time on the beach and the kids love spending time in the rock pools. Great opportunity to walk under the cliffs round to Cuckmere Haven....BUT you MUST check the tide times first, as you can end up getting caught by the tide otherwise.

Points to note: stony beach unless the tide is well out. Access to the beach is via scaffolding steps - so not suitable for those with walking difficulties. Parking can be difficult and is also expensive now. Refreshments are limited and also expensive in the National Trust cafe, so you may like to take your own.
