The Crown & Anchor is a fantastic pub - don't judge it by the first image when you see it. They made our weekend away.
Saturday night was live band night and it was a great night. The band "Me, Myself & Her" did some great unique covers and kept us there all night.
Food on Sunday was great, well done to the kitchen and bar staff.

The pub is wonderful the food is amazing. The bar staff are lovely, my wife and I visited Eastbourne for a night and decided to eat in the crown and anchor we stayed in here for the whole evening there was a fantastic band on as well. We spoke to the landlady who informed us the pub will be getting a total refurbishment in 2015. We will definitely be returning again for another night soon.

We didn't eat in this pub but that was down to time restraints as the food looked really good. Atmosphere was good and pity we could not stay for entertainment.

We have been several times to this lovely pub near eastbourne pier, we enjoyed a fantastic lunch sitting next to log fire, the belly pork is my friends favourite great atmosphere and staff, it really is a great British pub, we have also been to a couple of evening venues with music, very good

We came here for our Christmas party , we had the room upstairs , the bar staff were attentive and the waiters were the same ! The food was fab, proper home cooked food ! We couldn't fault it ! Then after we went downstairs to an 80's band which was brilliant ! I would recommend this pub for a good meal and a good night out ! Thank you to all the staff for making our night great !

We found this pub after being disappointed with our hotel bar and our only regret was that we hadn't found it sooner. Friendly staff and a lovely guest beer (Olde Trip). Sunday night was Karaoke night which is not my cup of tea but it was a really great evening. We didn't eat there but the food looked good. Will visit again the next time we go to Eastbourne.

We were in Eastbourne for a long weekend and called in to the pub for a evening meal. We were immediately made welcome. The Belly Pork from the specials menu has to be the largest and most tasty meal I have ever eaten. The two following nights we walked through the door we were recognised and greeted like locals. Excellent food exceptional staff enjoyable visits. I recommend you visit.

Having completed the final leg of the South Downs Way, a party of 13 descended on the Crown and Anchor for a pre-booked lunch. What a superb gem on the seafront to the North West of the pier. We were met by friendly and helpful staff who served us with a welcoming drink. We had a variety of absolutely delicious main courses ranging from turkey pie, to chilli con carne, liver, scampi, fish and chips, lamb shank, lasagne and a couple of other dishes at the end of the table which I couldn't quite see. All were served piping hot and with very good presentation. The desserts were good wholesome pub ones. The jam sponge with cream was a great hit, as was the chocolate fudge cake with choc sauce. We can thoroughly recommend this excellent pub with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, serving value for money food.

Went on a wet Sunday night for dinner, as had heard some very good things about the food here, and we were not disappointed.
Huge portions, great quality and fairly reasonable priced too.Waitress was very pleasant, as was the chef who bought us our meals.
Most of us had roast beef and roast chicken, all beautifully presented and had all the trimmings.Would definitely go again.
We left before the karaoke started around 8.30pm (not our thing) and the only negative point was the strong smell of bleach when we walked into the bar. It was so strong we thought we may not be able to stay but eventually it seemed to go. Lovely pub, lovely food and great atmosphere.

We popped into the Crown and Anchor for lunch in a recent visit to Eastbourne. It was friendly and welcoming, and easy to settle down into to while a couple of hours away. The ales were excellent, and I especially commend the Hogs Back T.E.A. that they had along with a number of well-kept guest ales. Food was very nice. The ‘Homemade Traditional English Pie of the Day’ was Turkey and Ham and served with an amazing selection of vegetables and roast potatoes. It was like having a roast dinner! All in all, very good and we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

After drinking in this great pub on many occasion we finally got to have our first meal here, we had an early evening meal.
As always the service was very good, food arrived very hot, I had the crispy pork which I had with chips and veg, I had no complaints it was all cooked to perfection and very tasty, on the other hand my wife went for a cheese burger, now the menu states that the chef makes this from fresh, I must say it did not look like it and looked very much like a standard formed burger,
We would eat in here again but would not have a burger which just did not hit the spot
The beer, wine and service is always good in here and the bands add to a great weekend night out.
From what this pub used to be like it has certainly improved for the better and is a great venue

Went here for an evening meal while staying in Eastbourne. Welcomed on entry by a member of staff and nothing was too much trouble - given a taster of real ale to check it was to my liking. Menu was extensive and we both enjoyed our meals very much - they were very good value and the vegetables were cooked to perfection (for my taste - not over cooked!). Ale was well kept and a good choice - may have been lucky as they had a choice of 6 from the barrel - as just before the beer festival. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Although part of pub chain this Pub offers far more than others I have experienced in the group. Well done to the Crown and Anchor staff who strive to make it like the "local" and where you are a person and not just another number! You deserve to be supported!
Would recommend if you want good food and drink at a reasonable price!

We were staying at a nearby hotel, York House(separate review) and arrived late around 2:30 pm and this was only pub open for food and drink. We are from USA and wanted our first pub meal. But what a surprise with the tasty food they serve. Obviously, they have fish & chips but I had the lamb shank and it was great. My husband had the fish and chips and the chips portion is so huge so I got shard that too.
I have to add a great beer selection too. It was too cold so could not enjoy outdoor tables.

We were looking for somewhere to have a meal, and turned off the seafront to find this little gem tucked away. It looks a little like an old 'spit-and-sawdust' pub, but don't let the otside put you off. There was a very good, simple enu, and the food was very tasty indeed. My wife's half chicken with salad defeated her, as there was just so much meat! I had the homemade lasagne, with garlic bread, and it was very good indeed, and really did taste home made.
There are quite a few guest cask beers available. The hosts were totally polite and courteous, and were friendly with locals and tourists (like us) alike. All in all this was a wonderful meal in a surprising place.

Spent a weekend in nearby B&B (The New England b&b - see separate review) and had lunch in this pub. The food was probably the best pub food I have had in a long time (should be classed as restaurant food), and very reasonably priced. All the staff were polite and although in the evening it was packed as it coincided with the annual torchlight procession and firework display my husband was served without having to wait. Also had a live group in the evening. Very good atmosphere with plenty of cask ales. We enjoyed the food so much that we went back for lunch the next day. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Poped in for lunch thinking we would get typical pub grub. Well how wrong could we have been. food was home made, amazing. just was blown away at the friendly service as well as the amazing food. Just could not praise them enough. Certainly will be back when in that part of the country. Thank you so much to all the staff.
