We called in here for lunch after visiting the amazing Redoubt Fortress.
Crown and Anchor has a large food menu and Mrs.P. ordered the homemade Steak and Ale Pie. Too often pubs have a stew topped with a disc of puff pastry. Not here; its real pie topped with shortcrust pastry top and bottom. There was a choice of mash, chips or roast potatoes and the latter was chosen. Three large really crisp roasties came with an assortment of fresh home cooked vegetable and a jug of gravy. I was so jealous. My sausage baguette with coleslaw and salad garnish was fine but I wish I’d ordered the pie…
We shared a bottle of house red: La Serre Cabernet Sauvignon Vin du Pays d’Oc, French bottled and a decent honest gluggable wine for a fair price.
I was thinking about that pie all day and so we went back in the evening for dinner. Being a gentleman I held open the door for two ladies only to find they’d taken the only remaining table, so we had to go elsewhere.
This place is a must next time in Eastbourne.

The place doesn't look great from outiside, but inside is cosy and clean with a lovely hidden terrace with a few tables where to enjoy your meal. We were in 6 and we all loved our fish and chips. Fresh fish well fried.

Lively atmosphere, and live music (bit too loud for us) and good beer make this a good place to spend a night. I have been recommeded the food although we did not eat.

I took a group of 12 people for a trip to England and found this pub on the Internet for a typical lunch. Everything was organised by mail and when we arrived, it was a very warm smiling welcome, a big table was set for us, the food was very typical and excellent; very large portions (too big actually, we coudn't eat anything for dinner). We had a lovely lunch and the whole group was enthusiastic about that place.

Never judge a book by it’s cover. Went in to watch football (Liverpool were playing Roma) and so didn’t expect much more than the drinking pub it appears from the outside.
Decor is tasteful. Staff very welcoming. As well as multiple screens for those who want to watch sport (sound turned down) there was a vibrant friendly atmosphere of customers participating in a quiz interspersed with DJ playing great music. We also ate from an extensive menu. My partner enjoyed a very well presented steak meal. I had the best macaroni cheese meal I have ever had.
Highly, highly recommend on all counts.

Just arrived home from the Crown and Anchor, we've become frequent visitors for food but if there are any more experiences like this afternoons, we will stop visiting.
Some customers were EXTREMELY loud, which on its own may not have been so offensive but the language!!!!!! every other word was "effing" no consideration what so ever for other customers in the bar, trying to enjoy a nice meal. The young lady behind the bar, did at one point ask them to lower the noise but was unsuccessful. Thought they had ditched the ´spit and sawdust` type pub :(The food though, was once again very good, tasty, plentiful and well presented.

Popped in for a quick lunch. I had a cheese sandwich which was OK, my partner had a ham sandwich but all the ingredients could have been bought from Tesco round the corner. The small scoop of homemade coleslaw was nice.

Hadn’t been in here in over 20 years since it was a ‘spit and sawdust’ type pub where you could guarantee a lock-in. And then yesterday a friend was down in Eastbourne and suggested we go here for a couple of drinks.
So it’s generally clean and the bar service was friendly and efficient. We decided we’d have something to eat as well. Pretty decent menu selection, reasonably priced. And daily specials on the black board.
The food was decent - never going to be haute cuisine if you’re having pub grub - but was nice and served hot and reasonably quickly
Overall not a bad place and I’d happily go back. The only thing I’d suggest is avoiding a football game night if you want a decent chat as it got pretty busy later on. They also have a decent variety of events in the place too, judging by the information boards around the pub.

Fantastic from the outside. Certainly sticks out in the crowd. A traditional old style pub. Very roomy and bright inside. Great staff. Very friendly. Ordered food while we were here. Had the prawn starter. Must admit, small and a little overdone battered prawns with a sweet chilli dip but they were well presented and tasty. Bar lady with dark hair came over, asked if everything was ok and took our drink order. Bought it to the table and checked on us again a while later. All we then had to do was pay our tab at the end. Which was great. Not sure if this would happen if they were really really busy. Even so she was friendly smiling and welcoming. Nice little area outside that seems very secluded. Only saw a quick glimpse of this on my way to the toilets. They were showing the rugby on TV when we were there. Really liked it here. Would definitely visit again.

From the first contact to book the staff were helpful and friendly, great communication beforehand. On our arrival the staff were the same and more than happy for us to rearrange furniture and decorate as we wanted. Our host, Alex, was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for him, he put up with our jokes and "witty banter" and was very much a part of the celebration with us, without being intrusive. The food was spot on - all delicious, hot and served together. The steak was amazing, lamb shank falling off the bone as it should and a very generous sized salad with plenty of bread. Again desserts were wonderful, chocolate fudge cake was a particular favourite. Overall the food was excellent, good sized portions and well presented. Would thoroughly recommend and look forward to our next visit. Thanks especially to Alex, who really made the party run smoothly for our eleven guests of varying ages!

Had several meals here which were delicious, and plenty of it. Cheese platter for 2 with a bottle of wine was £19.99. Entertainment at weekends and a sports bar with pool table and darts board. Staff friendly band though it was very busy bat times you didn’t have to wait to be served.

Party of six enjoyed another excellent evening meal in the Crown and Anchor last night. Four lamb shanks, sirloin steak perfectly cooked rare and a quiche. Beer, wine and coffee. What more do you want! Excellent service with a very jovial and friendly member of staff Ros who organised us six senior members of the eastbourne community. We frequently use the pub for a meal on a Saturday evening and have never been disappointed. I believe this is my third outstanding review of this very pleasant venue. Well done all the staff at the Crown and Anchor.
