We came as a group of 6 on Saturday evening from the high praise of friends and were definitely not disappointed. The food was incredible and the ambience provided a fabulous setting to enjoy our evening. The selection of wines are fantastically abundant and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves excellent food and wine in a friendly atmosphere. 5 stars!!

I've been to this bar / restaurant many times, for coffee, lunch, dinner and evening drinks with friends. Never been disappointed. Staff are very attentive from the second you walk in no matter how busy they are. Their knowledge and expertise of their wine and produce on their menu is second to none.
There is no where else in Eastbourne which has a better atmosphere. The menu during the week is varied, fresh and like no other restaurant around, the Sunday roasts are amazing and since they've only been open a few weeks, may not be 'world famous' I've no doubt that one day they will be!
I don't understand how someone can say that being given a recommendation on the menu from a member of staff is grinding when they state they have visited 3 times, surely that says everything about Cru that you need to know, even the most difficult of customers go back time and time again!
I would highly recommend Cru to everyone.

Impressive new place. I'm not a local but this place...dare I say it...would be Incredibly popular in Brighton let alone in its "less fashionable" neighbour.
Think Mediterranean subterranean vibes. Excellent wine list, expert knowledge and a menu to match. We had the croquettes, squid salad, the duck and the steak. No complaints. The steak doesn't need a sauce by the way. The meat is that good.Eager to please staff too so go and try for yourselves.
Just a shame there isn't one in Brighton...yet :-)

So I had heard some really good things about this new wine bar/store/restaurant and was excited to pay them a visit. The selection of wines is extensive and has something to offer all levels of wine drinkers be you an enthusiast or just a casual drinker who likes whatever it is that you like, you'd do well to not find something to choose here.
The chap who works the bar seems to know what he is talking about which is always a plus when targeting a specific market
However........I have visited 3 times since the opening and each time I have visited I have been implored to try "our world famous" ribs, steak, salad or charcuterie board which i must say gets a bit grating seeing as you have only been open for 2-3 weeks and although the majority of the produce is nice; world famous....no.
This of course is my opinion and mine alone however if you want to be told whats great and what you should be having then this is the place for you.

After hearing that this place was opening there was an expectation and it certainly didn't disappoint. This restaurant/wine bar/shop has all that there is to offer to people that enjoy food, wine and a friendly atmosphere at an affordable price.
The food, served by one of the partners and a well renowned chef off the area, was exceptional..... as always. Being there on a Sunday we chose what I would consider to be the best 'roast' in Eastbourne; I have tried many! The beef was perfectly cooked, as were the roast potatoes and homemade stuffing and Yorkshire puddings. We were even given an extra gravy boat without asking- awesome!! I can't want to find an excuse to go on another day of the week to sample their other menus. However, I have been informed that simply going for drinks in the evenings also provides one of the nicest atmospheres the town has to offer.
The wine list is extensive and well thought through. Due to their method of wine storage and clever contraptions you are able to taste from bottles that you may not initially want to invest in-although after one glass you may wish too! The bottles start at £8 upwards and are from all over the globe and cater for every taste.
The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, another of the partners took time (away from his family lunch) to answer our questions about the magnificent range of wines they have personally chosen to sell. There is not any more that any staff member could have done to make our afternoon more enjoyable.
We were informed that they also host wine tasting and serve meat and cheese board until late into the evening if you are not wanting a full meal.
Cru ticks the boxes for lunch, dinner and evening drinks. I could not be happier that an establishment like this has opened in Eastbourne and truly my wish the 'Cru' team the best in their new and exciting venture.
If you don't visit Cru when in Eastbourne you are most definitely missing out....go and see for yourselves and enjoy!
We shall be going again, and again....and again

I visited Cru this weekend with my husband and our friends having walked past it during its refurbishment and thought we'd give it a try. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a great atmosphere and a lovely barman who welcomed us in and passed us on to our waitress Sasha who showed us to our table. She explained the whole idea behind this new place that it's a shop and a bar/restaurant where you can buy wines there or buy them to drink in for a small charge on top. Despite being really busy on its first weekend she made us feel welcome and comfortable and left us to look over the wine list , cheese and meats menu and the main menu while she managed the rest of the rest of the restaurant quickly and efficiently on her own. We had the squid and short ribs and crab salad for starters followed by a generous steak , confit duck , hake and burger all of which were superb and large for their prices. Despite being new all of our food came out timely and perfectly so congrats to their chefs. The owners take a hands on approach to their business and were wandering around and were really friendly and helpful with wine choices. The staff are wonderful, on the right side of attentive but not intrusive and professional but down to earth. Had a fab time and looking forward to making it our regular bar and dinner venue , just what Eastbourne needed.
