Amazing food

Really amazing food atmosphere staff and service

Excellent service and food recommended.

Enjoyed an even with our son and daughter in law, food was good, service was great and had a pleasant un rushed evening together.

I had a table booked for my birthday and I just can't praise the place and staff on duty enough. It was 8 of us all together and my girls were looked after so well, prosecco was pouring, the food was great, vegan option available (which was so amazing), coffees served. We had the best time! I would highly recommend this place to anyone! Staff was always smiling, checking on us, topping up the drinks. Thank you! x

This is more a restaurant than a wine bar although the very high stools may not suit some. You need to request a standard table. It is a busy place with very welcoming staff so great for an evening out. The menu is small but does not quite live up to expectations. Scallops were bland and quite oily without being caramelised. The beef burger was good and lean with unusual chips. Overall an enjoyable atmospheric evening for a small party but don't expect haute cuisine. The bill worked out at about £42 each which is top of the range for Eastbourne.

We were looking forward to Cru after all of the rave reviews but unfortunately had a mixed evening.
We arrived at 21.15pm for our table and the greeting was fine and we were made to feel welcome. Coats were taken from us after the couple who arrived later than us and we were also served drinks after them too. We were informed that the scallops starter was not available which is my wifes favourite and after ordering mains the belly pork was also unavailable, again my wifes favourite. We were then assured my wife would get a lovely sirloin instead. Then we were told that a piece of pork had been found. Very confusing !!
Starters arrived and the beef rib was wonderful but at the same time four young customers arrived and seated next to us and they repeatedly used foul language in a loud manner. This was ignored by all the staff but to be fair they were very busy. Our mains arrived but the pork was awful and not even crispy so was unfinished.
We did not order dessert as our evening had now been ruined by the loud drinkers seated next to us. Mixed Affair - Are you a Luxury Dining Experience or a Lets get loud and drunk bar ? Not sure ? We unfortunately experienced a bit of both.

Fantastic evening, food was lovely, sirloin steak very good, wines and desert wines very nice, service was great, would definitely visit again best food in Eastbourne

Very good tapas, wine and service

With my wife having her birthday on New Years Eve each year always presents a challenge to find somewhere to eat at our preferred time of 1900.
After a few ‘no fully booked to a voicemail of don’t bother it’s NYE’ I could see a bowl of chips at Wetherspoons creeping over the horizon Then I saw ‘CRU’ and read the reviews and thought ‘bingo baby that will do for us’
I rang up to be told by the young lady that they are booked up but her boss would ring back in half an hour to confirm. 15 minutes later her boss rang back to say ‘yes they had a table for 2 and would I like it?’ I said yes and paid the deposit quicker than Linford out of the starting blocks.
It was a set 7 course tasting menu starting at 1930 and did not disappoint from the outset. The starter was the best french onion soup I’ve ever had, I knew straight away we was on to a winner of venue. I won’t bore you (please see pic of menu) with each dish as it was a taster menu so obviously it’s not the normal dishes served. I will say the lobster dumpling was out of this world, first dumpling I’ve had where I couldn’t taste the flour, just aroma and flavour of lobster, delicious
The pan roasted fillet of beef was cooked to perfection, neither my wife or I could any fault whatsoever. The sorbet was genius in that it cleared your mouth and palette before the of the lobster before the beef without affecting your tastebuds in anyway. The dessert was perfect in the sense it filled the spot in your belly (already expanded due to Xmas excess) without thinking you had over done it. Everything was rounded off perfectly with some excellently selected cheese .
You could also have the wine taster to go with each dish but we forwent that’s as I’m not much of a wine drinker and my wife doesn’t vary much from her usual drink.
CRU, with its brilliant ambiance is a fantastic venue that you could easily walk past as it is down some stairs but I think that’s adds to its charm. All the staff were excellent, attentive and knowledgable without being over bearing in any way. As it was a set taster menu to a full house ( I counted 40 guests) the chef and his kitchen team worked their socks off delivering perfectly cooked food to each table without no issue of you thinking ‘where’s my next course’
My wife and I were so lucky to find a table at CRU and we both want to revisit to try out there normal menu, we are both wondering when we can book up for next years NYE.
Take it from me, go for something to eat and enjoy the surroundings and experience of CRU as you will not be disappointed.

My husband and I have been wanting to try Cru for a while and decided to visit one Friday evening. We booked in advance which I would reccomend doing as it was really busy.
To begin with we were seated at the back with a christmas party going on. We were going to leave as we couldn't even hear each other talk when the waitress came over and offered us a table near the front. Lucky she did!
I ordered something off of the small plate menu which was the short rib which was gorgeous! It just fell off the bone and was really tasty. My husband had the steak which he really enjoyed too!
We decided to have dessert which is the reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating, as we ordered the apple pie, which was more like crumble and very small. For the price, although yummy, it wasn't worth it due to the small portion size.
We had a few drinks and although it was a little expensive, we really enjoyed the meal and would visit again!

Great food, great service, but soooo noisy.

Nice venue with charming staff and good menu. However at £19.50 for two mediocre glasses of red wine I thought I was in London.

The service was excellent. The best fish & Chips I have tasted for a very long time. Staff are friendly efficient. Most of all their toilets are exceptionally clean and fresh. Very nice place to dine.

We came in without a reservation and the staff managed to fit us in anyway. They were super welcoming and friendly, and both the wines and food was creative and impressively well-executed.

Had a reservation at the restaurant last night. Me and my other half had 6 of the small plates and the food was exceptionally good. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We will certainly be going again..

This place is sooooo good!!!! love the drinks. Food is beautifully arranged. Clean, friendly, good prices, what more could you want?

Best roast dinner I've ever eaten..every type of veg known to man an the lamb was just lovely
