Great family run attraction ideal for young children to play safely and see trains. The train ride goes round a beautiful lake, which you can also walk round. Worth a visit, cafe for food good value.

EMSR is based around a fairly large lake. Train trips around the lake take about 10 minutes. In quiet times you will be towed by a diesel engine, but in the peak times it is real steam - great! As well as the train rides there are numerous miniature railway layouts that you can watch working (for 20p - bring plenty). There are also swings, slides and other entertainments for children. There are plenty of places for a pleasant picnic and also a very reasonably priced cafe (outside only - you need good weather). You must also save some money for the shop, which has all sorts of things to do with trains, from a whistle for less than a pound up to a large train set for £250.

When you arrive, pay the extra for unlimited rides - it is well worth it, and you will almost certainly want more than one ride anyway.

The trains are in superb condition and clearly well maintained by the dedicated staff. The journeys are regular (multi-journey ticket available too) and a group route all round the huge area. Refreshments are fine for snacks, ice creams and hot drinks - would recommend bringing a pack lunch if you are going for longer than a half-day. There is also a small (adventure) play area for the younger children. All in all a perfect way to spend a sunny day.

Went to EMSR for the first time ever last week, I have three boys ageing from 3-8yrs.
Cost me £25 (there abouts) to get in on a unlimited train ride pass....a tad too much if I'm honest.
The train was good but it is what it is, One big circle ride with a few whistles and a tunnel, saying that though my 3 & 6yr old liked it, once was enough for my eldest son.
The play area has maybe 15 obstacles (swings, roundabout, climbing walls etc) and an area for little ones. Some local parks are just as good and free.
my children played for a good four hours but with the aid of bringing along there own nerfs and meeting with friends, had we'd gone alone it prob would've been an hour max.

I do agree the annual pass (NOT all year)
Is good value £12.50pp but it is really only somewhere you can go in good weather.

The cafe hut was ok value.
Toilets were very clean.
Staff were lovely.

Going by other reviews though it appears they always invest in improving.

I will visit again but only when meeting friends and just with my littlun.

This is a great hang out joint. The owners take real pride in the place and invest heavily in developing it. We have lost days there!!!!! I have all boys aged from 1yr up to 17yrs and they ALL love it - even now! If you're local or not, consider buying an annual ticket as it's well worth it (2011 was £12.50 per head), the play area is split for littleies and bigguns, clean, accessible loos, great picnic area and the extra machines are great at 20p! Gerast cafe area, reasonably priced, attentive staff......... need I go on! the only down side is that it shuts Nov-Easter so we have to find somewhere else to go, BUT we know that when we return come Easter the owners would have invested even further in the winter months.......... steam on down!

My little girl (nearly 2) loves EMSR and we have the annual ticket which is a complete bargain at £12.50 (free entry to the park and discount on the rides). There is a dedicated area for under 5s with playhouses, swings, a playframe with scramble net and slide and some rockers. The main playarea has loads to entertain your children with roundabouts, slides and toys galore. There is a beautiful nature walk round the fishing lake where your little ones can wave to the London train passing at the bottom of the park.

Mike has a fab selection of trains for you to ride, Rachel and her team serve delicious food at a very reasonable cost from the on site cafe and very importantly the loos and baby changing are immaculate at all times. The shop sells a nice selection of railway themed items both for children and grown ups

Absolutely the best attraction in Eastbourne by miles run by a family who really care about their customers. Thanks Rachel & Mike - from Fiona and Kitty

I can thoroughly recommend this family run attraction. They really have made an effort to make this a great place for young children with a good playground and the minature steam railway is fantastic and picturesque. Go - you won't be disappointed.

Spent three hours with my family here and was a bit disappointed.

The site is good and well laid out, and the staff were friendly and a lot of time has gone into the facility. 10 / 10 so far.

But, the model railways require 20 p for each of them to work, and the garden railway is "tiny" and has Thomas stock on it.

Although the timetable said steam would be running, and it is called a miniature "steam" railway - the diesel loco was running and no explanation as to why.

It will appeal to a young family, but as a model railway fan and steam fan was a bit disappointed.

My 9 year old had a greta time though

I have been visiting the miniature railway since a child and have watched it grow into a great value family day out which is very hard to find nowadays!!
It has a brand new gift shop which isn't overpriced and full of gifts for people of all ages (it isn't just all thomas stuff - but the bits that are are sometimes cheaper than ELC and compared to the Thomas bits at Drusillas its half the price!).
There is a large patio area with a cafe selling homemade sandwiches, the best filter coffee around and yet again good value ice creams.
A great sized play area for the kids that is well maintained and an inside area full of model railways :) A lovely walk around the fishing lake brings you to another picnic area and a smaller play area where you can sit and watch as the train goes past and observe the wildlife from the nearby fields.
The train itself is FAB! You climb aboard and straddle a carriage as it takes you around the parks lake, everyday there is a different train that takes you round and its great fun whatever your age! The train driver and guard make sure your all aboard, the whistle blows and off you go!
The park is excellent for a day out but also for after school visits, I've bought a family pass and we often pop in for a nice cuppa and for the little ones to run around.
For a family run attraction its the bees knees and i can't wait for the next season!

We took 3-year-old grandson who thoroughly enjoyed the children's adventure play area - safely bounded on all sides, imaginative climbing frames etc., wendy houses hidden in a glade of trees, plenty
of seating in the sun or shade for adults. Unfortunately the willow maze was shut but it looked suitably mysterious and we look forward to trying it next time...

Miniature steam trains (some days diesel) you sit on - one ride with standard admission, unlimited rides for a bit extra. Through meadows,
woodland, a bridge and a tunnel. Also miniature gauge railways in glass cases, fun for enthusiasts - only 20p a go.

Cafeteria - well-presented sandwiches, very reasonable prices, ample tables and chairs - comfy chairs too. Thomas the Tank Engine shop, even a wooden toy railway for tots. Rides on Thomas static engine only 20p which is amazing considering most of these toddler rides are at least 50p.

Very pleasant lakeside walk with another climbing thingy halfway round. Ducks, geese and swans, with babies at the right time of year.

One little grouch - toilet cubices very small - need to be big enough for parent and child as this attraction is mainly for very young children - but owner told me they're planning new buildings, so hopefully will be resolved.

Lovely atmosphere, doesn't cost an arm and a leg - admission much less than most attractions. Best on a nice day as mostly outside. Good website. Recommended.
