piers generally sound romantic and nostalgic, but this pier like many others has seen better days.Building work was going on when we visited so any romance was lost.

It isn't long since the fire but restoration is well on the way. It is good to be able to see its progress. There are a few shops on the Pier and a lovely traditional afternoon tea/cafe is very smart and slap bang in the central area.

Great for the under 30s . Plenty of security and happy atmosphere. Drinks are very expensive and takes an hour to get to the bar. Typical seaside club. Shame about all the foreigners that live in the town though

Had a lovely walk around the pier which is being restored after the fire last year. It will be lovely when finished. Great to see a seaside pier in use as so many have gone.

The restoration of the pier, following the fire,is progressing very well.Although there is still plenty of work to be done and it has lost quite a lot of it's charm and features, the end result will be more of a modern style and should appeal to most visitors!

It is a really sweet spot. Spilling with life. In the coming summer months it would surely be a must go. Currently under refurbishment, therefore it looses its potential to thrill. Still it deserves a visit.

A wonderful afternoon tea overlooking the sea. The staff were very attentive we had the full tea with a choice of sandwiches, fruit scones, jam and cream and a slice of cake from a good choice.

The tea was perfect all presented with lovely crockery and cake stand.

Well worth a visit we shall return again in a few weeks time when we are coming to stay in Eastbourne.

Well worth a visit.

The pier was not as I expected it to be, there seemed to be a lack of things to do, but hopefully when rebuilt fully it will be better.

Work still ongoing to the Pier due to the fire last year but at the front of the pier, there's a small chip shop and a place to buy ice creams and doughnuts. On the Pier there is a Victorian tea room which is well worth a stop. Also there are a couple of small shops to spend your money.

Iconic part of Eastbourne. Great for all ages! Excellent glass blowing shop, super for unique gifts and very reasonable. Other gift shops and cafes too.

The pier is undergoing major rebuilding since the serious fire in the summer of 2014, so just watch out for the signs telling where you can go and where you can't. Good to see that you can see what is going on through the various portholes.

I'd happily return when the make-over's completed. At night it was still worth a wander around to see the sights and lights.

The pier has largely reopened after the big fire last year. There is a large section fenced off where the amusement arcade used to be but the decking repair is largely complete ready for whatever they're going to put there instead. The tea shops and souvenir stores are all open for business.

Glad a real effort is being made to bring back to life Eastbourne pier, after lasts years’ potentially fatal fire.

End on May 2015 when I visited, it seems to me as if most of the new deck is down.

I hope, once completed, the pier will be a bustling, fun place to visit.

Sadly, now, there doesn't seem to be much life in the old place, had a quick walk around the pier, a quick look in the few shops and we were off.

I think, for a pier to survive, it needs to be something along the lines of Brighton's pier. I know rides are not to everyone’s taste (and not really mine tbh) but you really need something to draw people onto the pier. Maybe this isn't possible on Eastbourne pier, I don't know. But, something really needs to be done to breathe some life back into the mostly rotting and rotten remains of the pier.

So, finally, I wait with baited breath to visit the grand old girl, in all her completed beauty.

Really love piers, despite all the works going on enjoyed going along the pier. Look forward to seeing the end result. Interesting to see the little portholes into the area being completed. Lovely little gift shop open, friendly owner. Ice creams lovely at beginning of pier.

A bit unfair to review the pier when it is still under repair after the fire. Only a couple of shops and a cafe open at the moment. Fishermen can hire a rod and line. Just like all piers it is nice to walk along it and there are excellent views of Eastbourne

The Victorian tea house offered a lovely pit stop for a coffee and lovely cakes / cream teas. The service was excellent at a reasonable price.

Not much to see as there is a lot of construction work going on. Will probably be good when finished but can't really tell. Ice cream shop at the front of the pier was very good value

We had a walk along the pier when we had a quick stop over in Eastbourne, although the weather was wet and windy it still made for a good visit. The pier has a nice traditional feel to it with the wood clad buildings.

It was lovely to see that the pier is open again after the fire last year. I can't wait to see it when the building work has been completed, however the other shops and venues were lovely to visit and it was lovely to walk along to the end and watch people fishing.
