Eastbourne Pier

A pleasant stroll in the March sunshine on the pier, but it's desperately in need of restoration. Paint was peeling from most surfaces, and part of it was cordoned off for no apparent reason (safety I wonder...)? Eastbourne is not a poor town so it would be good to see some cash diverted towards keeping this traditional attraction maintained to a decent standard.

We took the 'sea air' a couple of times during our brief stay in Eastbourne and what better way than to walk the pier. Fresh air and great views up and down the coast.

A frequent favorite of our family as a great afternoon stroll down the pier with an ice-cream or even a cream tea in the beautiful cafe on the pier...beautiful views.

Had a lovely time here, did some gaming and then had high tea along the Pier. The water was beyond freezing although it was winter time and being Australian I had to prove my love of the ocean by wading in knee deep. We got some chips and sat on the beach which was very pebbly. In had an enjoyable time here.

This pier is one of the few left in England. If you fancy walking all the way round it there are nice views out to sea and also a different view of Eastbourne seafront. There is an amusement arcade and a few shops, a tea room and a fish/chip restaurant. Some restoration is being undertaken, as clearly it is needed.

With 2 friends we went for a walk onto the pier at Eastbourne and nearly got blown off due to the blustery weather. It is a well kept and maintained Victorian pier and halfway along it is a tea room where we had a delightful cream tea for £3.95 made with leaves and not bags! We had a thoroughly pleasant time and I would recommend the cream tea.

Great view, fresh and a trip back into old times, place needs a bit of work and watch as you walk. A couple of amusement arcades and a few shops still open. Eastbourne was very busy and everyone really enjoyed the air show. We will be going back again next year and this time we will book a Hotel to make a weekend of it.

We have just returned from a stay at Eastbourne having last visited 25 years ago. It is very much as I remember it, a great promenade, plenty of hotels, eateries and B&B’s. But it is the cleanliness, the pier and the bandstand that I remember the most and I am so pleased to see that none of that has changed. We walked along the prom after breakfast on Saturday following the previous nights battering and despite it being mid October everything looked fine and dandy. The pavements were spotless, many of the properties look well maintained unlike Hastings seafront which we found to be hugely depressing! Delighted to see that the fantastic bandstand it to undergo renovation and is still being used. Very much hope to return one day to see it completed and watch a show, brilliant to see part of our heritage being restored.

Eastbourne was once thought of the South Coast's graveyard, the preserve of retirees with little to offer anyone else. However Eastbourne has come a long way and is a well kept resort with something to offer most people. While it does not offer the excitement of Brighton it has far better beaches, is cleaner and has a pleasant well managed promenade. The pier does not hold the thrill rides of its city neighbour and to be frank a lot more could be made of it. Equally on a warn day, it provides a pleasant sunny experience with views on one side out to the cliffs of Beechy Head and the busier parts of the beach. It is a great spot to relax and catch the sun and just to stroll. The pier could do a lot more for itself in terms of the customer experience and businesses on it although it has a bar and a few outlets, things seem to close early which is a shame and so you tend to end up back in the town if you want to get tea or something to eat and there are plenty of places to eat a short walk from the pier. Visitors may also be interested in visiting Beechy Head, the Seven Sisters country park and Paradise Park nearby close to Seaford. Visit date given is approximate as we are frequent visitors.

Seaside piers have a certain magic about them and Eastbourne pier is no exception. Apart from the great sea and coastal views, it has much to offer in its own right with shops to buy gifts and places to eat. One of the joys of an 'old fashioned' trip to the seaside.

The pier is a must to wonder round there is so much to see, little shops, and a good chip shop
which is a must, and there are lots of seats to sit and eat those chips on, and people watch, then
go and buy the odd souveneir of course.

A well preserved pier with a whole load of history. There are a number of shops selling various wares, such as seaside nick knacks, glass blowers, and a couple of cafeterias. At the end of the pier there is a concert room where various concerts are held throughout the year. The end of the pier is also a favourite spot for local Fishermen. There are plenty of seats if you just want to sit and ´people watch´.

A basic but great pier. Full arcade as well as several small retail units during the summer months. A visit to the tea rooms in the middle of the pier is a must!

Eastbourne Pier is seedy, run down, doesn't have much going for it.. in fact your classic seaside pier experience.
The thing is to enjoy it. A good walk to the end and back clears the air in you lungs, and a visit to the Arcade area will clear the cash from your wallet. The best thing on our visit was watching the glass blowing demonstration. Very interesting. My only disappointment was the lack of Donuts. What's a pier for if not for donuts? If you're in Eastbourne, visit the pier.

Old fashioned arcades took me back to my childhood and my kids loved it too! Don't think it's seen much improvement over the last 25 years but then is that a bad thing ??
We enjoyed the fish and chips too

Its only a small pier, with usual seaside shops on it. There is a nice tearoom on it which we visited, but with a standard scone which mum thought was little dry.

Visited the pier on a visit to Eastbourne last year. Great Attraction and Fun to walk along and see the sights. You can grab a bag of chips and a ice cream ad then sit and enjoy the views of the sea and the town.

Shabby and run-down, it has deteriorated since I last visited a few years ago. No access to the steps which lead to the camera obscura, thus denying visitors the best views of the pier and town. Other sections reserved for fishing so also inaccessible to visitors. Some parts of the building covered in scaffolding, so bear that in mind if you're intending to take photographs.
On the other hand, the fish and chips I bought in the entrance cafe were very good - pity about the plastic cutlery.
