Like stepping into another world. The afternoon tea experience was all it is cracked up to be.The food was superbly presented with multiple choices & the tea kept on flowing. The service if anything was overplayed but hey when you consider how in some places the service is non existent it's nice to be pampered.Have been before but a long time ago & would certainly return any time.

An excellent return to this old lady by the sea for the tennis. It must be oiur 10th annual visit and I am delighted to report everything lived up to the high standards one expects at a 5 star hotel.
The Grand always reminds me of a well preserved Dowager, showing her age at times but for me that is part of the charm.
The reception was efficient, the breakfast team is now excellent, always welcoming with a smile (not the case a few years ago) and the Mirabelle was superb as ever.
Only slight criticism would be I look forward to to the bathrooms being upgraded and better Wifi.

This was the second year that the Ramblers Walking Holiday company hosted some of their clients here at the beautiful Grand Hotel to walk on the lovely South Downs. It was recommended by us The Outdoor Guide as we stayed here during the filming of Julia Bradbury's TV series Britains Best Walks. The
Hotel really looked after us during filming and is the perfect place to stay when visiting this great part of the world. Nothing is too much trouble for Jackie, Jonathan and their team and the breakfasts are to die for.

This was our first ever visit to Eastbourne. The Grand is a magnificent and elegant Victorian Building situated on the seafront.

From the time we arrived in the hotel car park some 2 hours before the appointed time for occupying our room, the service and attentive staff made this a very memorable stay. The car park space I had reserved (being a blue badge holder) was available with our name clearly displayed on the allocated space and luggage was collected and taken into the hotel before I had finished extracting my personal belongings from the car.

From our initial reception until our departure, the courteous, efficient and professional staff , service and food were absolutely wonderful.

The Garden Restaurant was an absolute delight and the Chef kindly (having given him/her 24 hours notice) made me my favourite meal " "Beef Stroganoff" on our last night, it was absolutely perfect.

We used both the Spa area and the Gym, where again the staff were attentive and helpful.

We took away a wonderful memory and experience.

This is a hotel we will hopefully return to in the not too distant future.

Our annual June visit to Eastbourne Grand hotel came round again this month. We were amazed and delighted by the room we were given that was a significant upgrade. Apart from the huge bed we also had a sofa,a safe, coffee tables and other things such as a cosy dressing gown each. The only thing missing was a fridge. Apart from that fine.
The only trouble with the large bed was the difficulty of getting into it with the enormous layers of fancy posh cushions that we had to struggle with to find another place for. Everything else was much as before and we were glad to be here!

Breakfast always good and all staff were very pleasant and helpful. My partner requested a fried egg which was efficiently delivered as usual. In the same cloche by the same waiter(who only did cloches) The car park was a bit tricky as more cars have to be organised as this was a busy time The staff were always very helpful and found us a place each time..The only real downer was that the indoor pool was closed, the weather was not very warm, and the outdoor pool was rather chilly. See you next year!

Stayed here for 1x night for a hen party and absolutely loved it. From the moment we drove into the car park we were greeted by a lovely gentleman who showed us where to park (free onsite parking was great). We went to reception and again were welcomed by all the staff and checked in, we really felt like we were abroad somewhere.
We unpacked and went straight to the spa, as it was one of the hottest days of the year we didn't spend any time indoors but instead sunbathed for hours by the outdoor pool which really did feel like we were on holiday. The pool is heated as well so was great to jump in and out when we needed to cool off. We also had spa treatments booked and I treated myself to a full body massage. I have had many massages at different hotels and countries and I have to say this was the best massage I have ever had! It was so relaxing, the techniques which were used and the care that was taken to consider my disabilities. 5* spa for sure!
We were going to eat at the hotel, until we looked at the menu and just 1x cocktail was £17! We thought we would stroll down the beach for some chips for a few quid which was fun.
Our room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Only knock was that there was no fridge in the room. They did provide an amazing fan in the room which really helped on such a hot weekend.
Breakfast was again 5*, good variety and all of the food was piping hot.

I don't think i can fault this hotel, hence the 5* rating. The staff are an absolute credit, there wasn't anything they couldn't do for you. Thank you for such a wonderful stay, we loved it! Worth every penny :)

This is the only remaining five star hotel on the English coast and my husband decided to take me and our lovely little whippet there for a few days. It was 32 degrees Centigrade while we were there so the sea breeze was most welcome. This is one of those Victorian places built to resist a nuclear attack - the ceilings are very high, there's a lot of highly polished brass and the whole place reeks of solidity. I love that! The atmosphere is highly professional but friendly and very helpful, so much so, it reminded me of being on The Queen Mary. Our room was not air-conditioned but the efficient fan did manage to cool the air enough that we could sleep. A dog bed was provided for our girl and there is a dog menu but we brought her food so she didn't get to choose from it. The dining room is huge but service was swift and the Sommelier was especially helpful. There's a large comfy lounge where you can get any type of cocktail and we sampled quite a few. Highly recommended.

We have just visited for an afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was all very good quality and tasty! Plenty of teas to choose from and lovely atmosphere.
We had a special 'Grand slam' afternoon tea, which included a Pimm's jelly!, because of the tennis being in town.

Warmly welcomed by then Concierge he set the standard for service and we weren't disappointed as all staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The room was luxurious with complimentary wine waiting for us. Table d'hôte dinner was good and afternoon tea was all that you would expect. The small indoor pool was deliciously warm (The only downside was that there were 4 other non-residents - members of the gym - in the pool interested in local restaurants and discussing them as opposed to swimming so I found it was difficult to swim purposefully as the others became standing obstacles). The decor and flowers throughout the hotel were exceptional. The only thing which failed to live up to the high standard throughout the rest of the hotel were the display cabinets in the corridors showing jewellery etc which could have done with a duster.

We booked this hotel as a weekend treat for our group (4 friends) and we had a fabulous time. All of the staff were warm, friendly and helpful and the level of service stood out. The food was really good and plentiful and the rooms were lovely. We each had a spa treatment (facials or back massages) which were lovely. The hotel is in a great spot. Highly recommended all round and we hope to return soon.

We stayed at The Grand for four nights and the service was excellent. All the staff that I came across went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Nothing seemed too much trouble. They always smiled in such a welcoming way. I think they are very well trained and seem to enjoy their jobs. This makes for a very happy atmosphere throughout the Hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The Grand Hotel has an excellent posiiton. Walk across the road and you are on the beach. Yet, because it's set back from the road we never were conscious of traffic.

We spent a couple of nights there in June. Upgraded on arrival to a suite including a wide veranda. Well appointed room.

The Grand has two restaurants: that in the hotel is good by UK standards and then there is The Mirabelle, highly rated in the Good Food Guide.

The Grand shows its age at times. but it also shows a wonderful USP which is the staff.

Wherever we went and whatever the request we were always met with a smile and a most helpful attitude. A lovely place to stay.

Booked a suite at the Grand for a celebratory few days away. Splashed out to have the Debussy Suite. Fantastic accommodation, wonderful balcony and incredible views. OK it is a bit pricey but - so what! If it's a special trip it really doesn't matter.

Dinner in the Garden Restaurant is very good but a bit over formal for me. I suspect that the integrated Mirabelle Restaurant may be even more OTT

Great Breakfast and very nice inside and outside pools.

The lobby and lounges are stunning and oh so comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Need to return to take everything in.

A beautifully attractive hotel which didn't live up to expectation at all. Decent sized room but in immediate need of redecoration, nothing special about it. Very small tv.- difficult to even read the tv guide from the bed. Pre-dinner drinks ordered - local spirits which staff were encouraging us to try - only to then inform us 5 mins later that there wasn't enough left! Same applied to second choice they offered. ?? Dinner was 'ok', nothing more. Breakfast a let-down. Bog standard choice of luke-warm buffet food plus a few cereals/fruit/yoghurt. 'Special Order' breakfast foods we chose - none left. Ordered 2 poached eggs, 1 was hard. Definitely not the 5 star experience we had looked forward to for our Anniversary - they could learn a lot from other establishments - and came away very disappointed with it all and confident we'll never stay there again.

We arrived early, but were able to park, and our bags taken for storage. Check in was later when we were given a good explanation of the facilities. As we live near the sea, we felt that we did not need a sea view room, but what is called an inland view would be sufficient. However our view was through a filthy window of green slimy broken slates and other filthy windows. This was over the kitchen area, so we were woken at 5.30. a.m. when the fans came on. The room was spacious and clean except for a lot of dust in the slats of a fan heater, so we did not use it. The bathroom was also clean, and only let down by the rusty plughole in the small bath, and screws sticking out of the bath panel. Towels and flannels were soft and fluffy and toiletries more than adequate. Presumably as we were in the cheapest type of room we only got a pencil, and I had to ask for a pen. An improvement to the bathroom would be a magnifying mirror, and a recycling bin for papers. Breakfast was the usual corporate choice but improved by being able to order certain things to be freshly cooked. The dining room was clean except for stains on some of the chairs. Overall it is a hotel which has a certain charm which grows on you, and we would stay there again. I would hope that if we did, all the clocks would be set to the correct time, as they are all different. We did not eat in for evening meal as the prices seemed to be rather on the high side, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

The Grand is a beautiful hotel both inside and out. It oozes old world glamour with a service level which is second to none. From the moment we stopped the car at the door the relaxation began, the car was emptied, bags were taken to our suite, car was parked all done whilst we were having tea and pastries in the lounge.
Attention to detail is excellent. We felt very welcomed by all the staff. Dinner in both restaurants was very good, we had the tasting menu in the Mirabelle restaurant it was divine and a fab experience. Service was sublime.

I had the 1 hour Grand facial in the spa, it was lovely, so relaxing and my skin felt so good. We will definitely return to the Grand.

We stayed here last Saturday to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday.
Firstly, I cannot praise the Staff here enough. I travel all over the world on business and the staff at the Grand are second to none. On arrival our ar was taken and parked for us and our luggage taken straight to our room. The young lady on reception was very pleasant and efficient checking us in, even asking if we would like someone to direct us to our room.
The Deluxe room itself, 203 on the second floor was very well appointed with all you would expect for £240 per night. The one big downside was the view - it can only be described as shocking!! The room overlooked an open air internal space which resembled a Victorian Prison; filthy walls & windows, peeling paint and ironwork so corroded and rusty i'm surprised as an Engineer, it hadn't fallen off. I wish now we had paid bit extra for a "side sea view"
Anyway onwards! We booked a table in the Garden restaurant where again, the service was first class. However, I can only describe the food we had as slightly above average for a 5 star establishment. We both had Lobster and I had the scallops starter all from the a la carte menu and charged extra. We both had a pleasant sweet and coffee and the total bill including drinks was £162.
I have paid a similar amount in other hotels and the food blew my socks off; sadly, the Gardens offerings did not Just to be clear, our drinks for the evening were two glasses of Rose for my wife and I had two bottles of Becks Blue. For those not in the know, Becks Blue is a non-alcoholic beer which costs £3.50 for six bottles in Sainsburys and Tescos. At the Grand it is £5.15 per bottle; a little steep methinks for something that doesn't even get you drunk!
After a decent night sleep, we went down to the Garden again for breakfast and credit where its due, it was absolutely first class!! The choice and quality was excellent and all of the cooked ingredients were prepared perfectly. Also, the toast was amazing. How can toast be amazing you may ask but this was - lovely and crisp on the outside with just the right degree of moistness inside.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Grand and would definitely stay there again, only next time we would pay the extra for a "side sea view" and would eat out in the evening. We wouldnt want to miss that great breakfast though!!!

From the moment you arrive, greeted by the doorman to the time you leave, the service is absolutely impeccable and definitely one of the highest recommendations from me out of the many hotels I've stayed in. Every single member of the team, whether front desk, restaurant, room service, housekeeping etc, was FANTASTIC and an absolute accolade to the whole experience of staying at the Grand. I love the old-fashioned aspect of the hotel's charm and its endearing qualities. If there were any negatives it is that some of the rooms are quite tired and need refurbishing/updating, especially to a 5 star standard, without losing the charm and dignity of its charm. I will definitely return for another stay in the future. I had a most enjoyable three days stay (initially 2 but I extended for a third). Thank you to all the staff who looked after me. Loved it.

Stayed for my husband's 50th. Lovely hotel have stayed before however felt the room looked a bit shabby this time for the price and quality that should be offered. Marks on the carpet were not very nice ;( Room service food was pretty awful but I got a refund so thats all good. Staff were lovely and helpful. Its a very old fashioned hotel so not for anyone wanting a modern feel but the staff are all very friendly and out to help. I would stay again.

First the good points, the location is perfect right on the sea front. Parking was excellent right at the front of the hotel entrance. The first impression you get is what a great building a very attractive historic style but in very good condition. When you enter the hotel the interior is equally impressive full of style immaculately clean and oozing class this goes for all the area's we went to. The staff were first class very polite helpful and professional. We ate in the Mirabelle Restaurant the food was worthy of five stars and so was the service, great waiters, great food. We made use of the pool area although a little small for the size of the hotel it was fine.
Now for the sour note, our room. I picked this hotel after looking at the web site, I showed my wife pictures of the type of room I had booked, she agreed the rooms looked lovely. When I opened the door to our room I saw the look of disappointment on my wife's face, I was stunned. It says on the web site the rooms average 30 square metres in size, this room was well under 20 sq mts I would estimate around 15 no more. It was tiny the bed was a small double (4ft 6in). The TV was smaller than my lap top and their was no satellite channels. There was not a safe in the room so we had no where to put valuable's like money, jewellery and my I pad. There was no ironing board or iron in the room and no air conditioning. Pictures on the web site show a deluxe room with inside view (not sea view) with three windows letting in plenty of light. the bed shown is at least King size, not a small double. To be honest I have stayed in 3 star hotels with far superior facilities and much bigger rooms. Showing pictures like this on the web site amounts to deception on a massive scale and should not be allowed. The room I had was No 111 the listed full price for this room is up to £280, had I been charged this amount I would have refused to pay and left the hotel, I actually would have been disappointed at paying around £80 for a room of this quality. My honest opinion of this hotel is it has 5 star public areas and 3 star rooms at best. What I will say is the room was like the rest of the hotel spotlessly clean and well looked after. I don't think I would return to stay at the hotel for fear of the room I may be dumped in.

Refurbished room, with all you could want, spotlessly clean and fantastic sea view. Lots of choice of food at breakfast. Efficient and cheerful staff who care about giving excellent service. Enjoyed the leisure club and outdoor pool, very clean and warm! We had a great weekend and would love to return.

We had a 2 night stay. Staff were extremely accommodating and could not do enough for us. Our room was a good size but felt "tired". Bed was softer than we like but ok.
Not cheap....but you get what you pay for I guess.

Amazing hotel! Staff were very polite and breakfast was very nice with lots of choice! The hotel is really grand and very impressed. Bar area is also really nice and so many cocktails. They were on the expensive side but worth it. Rooms are spacious and equipped with lots of tea/ coffee. Went for my birthday and loved it.

Upon arrival, we received a friendly greeting and our car was parked for us and our bags were taken to our room. I had pre-booked a disabled parking bay. Lovely greeting from the check-in staff and simple check-in procedure. This certainly is a "Grand Hotel" of massive proportions, and is beautifully kept. Our room on the first floor was large, clean and nicely furnished, including two high backed armchairs, a Flat screen TV, Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary spring water and a tower fan, if needed. The extra large super king sized bed later proved to be superbly comfortable. With regard to the breakfasts ... the selection offered was catering for everyone's taste. All selections were buffet style, generous and delicious. Service was cool, calm and efficient. Everything about this hotel is about guest satisfaction from the moment of arrival until checkout. Yes, we will be back and next time will sample the delights of the restaurant.
