Beautiful hotel, friendly and helpful staff and the biggest, comfiest bed we’ve slept in. Definitely recommend and definitely would stay again. Great value for money booking directly with the hotel and a complimentary bottle of wine in our room. Couldn’t fault it at all.

The staff in the hotel were friendly and mostly the service was great. But 5* I’m not so sure. The decor is in need of a revamp and an upgrade for the bathrooms would be good. Our shower did scalding hot or cold only. Breakfast timings need to be booked in advance to spread the numbers whereas the small pool area was packed - overcrowded as there were no restrictions there. It’s in a great location and we loved Eastbourne but felt disappointed with the Grand. Oh and on arriving home we realised the passenger door of the car had a large dent in it where someone parked in the car park next to it had hit it and not reported it.

Pros: The building is certainly grand and the lobby and main seating areas are well maintained. Very child friendly - goody bag given on check in. Decent children's menu in the garden restaurant. Kids stay free during half term. Clean pool. Very accomodating dor dietary restrictions.

Cons: Some of the rooms could do with updating (for example the jacuzzi element of the baths are not working, sagging mattresses in a few rooms and tired furnishings). Breakfast service is slow and unreliable (two wrong orders on both days of eating breakfast). For the size of the hotel, the pool is relatively small and during a busy half term week did feel crowded at times.

Overall had an enjoyable stay - thank you to Laura for the room upgrade as the mattress in that room was perfect! All the staff were pleasant and very helpful. No request was ever too much. We will be back.

A hotel we’ve returned to many times (shame there’s no loyalty programme - even a glass of wine would we nice!) and one we look forward to going to.

We paid for parking as we have arrived before and found we had to park in the road. £25 a night is quite expensive but it’s nice to know you have a guaranteed space. Welcome is always warm from concierge and reception.

We ate in The Garden Restaurant and I have to say the menu isn’t as good as it was. There was always a traditional roast included and that is lacking. I took my now 14 year old and he always ends up with steak as there’s nothing else really for that age palette. Evening staff are great.

Bar is lovely and staff always are knowledgeable and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Cocktails are expensive but perfection and you get exactly what you pay for. They will make you the cocktail of your choice even if not on the menu if you ask. Every member of staff was a credit to the hotel.

Stayed in a deluxe room rather than a suite for the first time. The room was plenty big enough and decorated well. Shower amazing. The bathroom needs either a shelf by the sink or a bigger cabinet as there was little space to place toiletries. Disappointed with size of shower gel as they were smaller than in the suites. The safe was also on the floor which was no good for me - there were shelves which it would have been much better on.

The leisure suite was booked which was disappointing so we were unable to have a treatment so make sure you book in advance. The lobby has been decorated and looks great. The pool was heaving and it was impossible to swim. I know covid restrictions are over but it would have been better to limit the numbers as we were swimming around people who were standing having a chat!

Breakfast was a disaster. The food is great when you actually get it but the wait staff have not a clue! Took 30 minutes to get our hot food ordered and that was after I called for a waiter and then another 45 for it to arrive. The toast was just warmed bread! We in the end just laughed as we watched staff lapping the dining room with orders that they had no idea who to give it to! Until they are trained maybe visible table numbers may help. We received our tea within 10 minutes which was cold by the time the food arrived and we weren’t offered any more. The continental food is behind a counter and you can’t actually see what is one offer. Juice is nice but they ran of orange juice one morning!

I saw that one teenager was given a drinks vouchers but my son received nothing so not sure why!

Having lived in Eastbourne for some years The Grand always retained something of a legendary status, but price wise seemed just out of reach. Although we sadly moved away we still return to see friends and whilst choosing a hotel I noticed The Grand was offering a Winter Discount... I thought... it's around Valentines why not book it and see what the fuss is all about?

I've stayed at these huge Victorian piles before and found their lack of maintenance to be disappointing - 'tired' is the general description. Not The Grand... refurbished, sparkling and entirely in keeping with its reputation as Eastbourne's grandest of old dames.

The staff were possibly the best I have come across; attentive, smiling and quick to ensure you experience a first class stay. Here's an example... Tony, the Concierge welcomed us into the car park, found us a spot and said he would save the space whenever we drove out. All The Concierges were just as friendly and had that same arrow point attention to detail.

Our room, even though we booked the cheapest option (because I'm cheap)... it was mysteriously upgraded prior to arrival and the room was nothing short of palatial. Another point on service; the water in Eastbourne can be a little variable when heated and I called room service requesting the bottled variety. Within minutes, a knock on the door, water duly delivered along with large bowl full of supplementary biscuits, tea bags, coffee and milks. What?!?!!

Eastbourne has more sun than any other part of the UK and I'm sure this encourages the locals to be a happy bunch and this runs through the DNA of the staff at The Grand. Even though it presents the ultimate in intimidating facades and a jaw dropping entrance hall, you are given such a warm welcome, you feel like it's a second home within minutes.

We're coming down again next month, we'll book The Grand...we're addicted.

Overall an ok stay, lovely staff and a fantastic evening with dinner and drinks. Same can’t be said for the breakfast! 1.5 hour wait for a cooked breakfast, cold fried eggs and well everything else was barely warm. Spent majority of our time directing the waiter to the correct table, to serve others their food! Rushed down the cold food, to attempt checkout at 11:00am. Also, 3rd floor room window could do with some fixing! Constant banging from the wind and a tripping light in bathroom. Started well, ended sour.

The Grand in Eastbourne is always our go too location just to unwind and de stress from life's pressures. We are always looked after so well, the service is to the standard of a hotel like this. The food equally is delightful.
Thank you for looking after us, looking forward to our next trip over.

A five star hotel on Eastbourne’s seafront. We went there for the weekend to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. And were not disappointed in any way everyone was so helpful and friendly.the service was second to none .the breakfast. Lunch and evening meal were fabulous the attention to detail can be seen in the photo of the desert we had. What a lovely finishing touch. Would definitely recommend this hotel especially if you are having a special occasion. But even Sunday lunch (which we stayed for ). Is worth the visit for alone. We came away with lovely memories. Phil&kay.

Stayed here for two nights, it did not disappoint. Comments about the hotel being old and faded seem a bit unfair, yes some of the carpets are threadbare but it made no difference as service, cleanliness, housekeeping were all excellent, the staff all masked and covid aware, cleaners never stopped wiping down handles etc. so felt very safe.

Ate in the restaurant both evenings, beautiful white linen tablecloths and napkins with spotless silver cutlery and sparkling wine glasses. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious tasty food, my husband had the beef which was tender and tasty, I had the mushroom risotto which was far too much for me, but the second night i chose the lamb shoulder which was more manageable with a tasty reduced jus which was replenished at my request. The wine was very reasonably priced and the half bottle we left on the first night was ready and waiting on our table in time to enjoy with our dinner on the second night. The staff are very well trained, polite and professional, the room was cleaned very well with a good array of toiletries supplied.
The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept with the window open - very surprised at how quiet it was especially being at the front of the hotel with beautiful sea views.
Sadly we were in the area for a funeral so not by choice, but if we found ourselves back we would most certainly stay here and have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

My only negative comment would be to have the huge chandeliers in the dining room on dimmer switches to create a more intimate atmosphere, after all there are candles on all the tables and wall lights!

Beautiful elegant hotel, large rooms, friendly but not over friendly staff. Amazing breakfast fresh and hot silver service plus buffet. Efficient service at all times. Wonderful bar but very expensive. My partner used the spa and pool and said it was spotless. Slippers and gowns provided. Long flat walks straight outside the building. We stayed for two nights. Perfect.

Been coming here for a few years. Would highly recommend as a 5 star. Brilliant facilities especially the outdoor heated poll. The breakfast is world class - I don't think I have been to anywhere that can match the breakfast. Service from the staff is faultless as you would expect from a 5 star (and you are paying for it)

Excellent afternoon tea at the Grand today. The service was spot-on, the scones were delicious and light and the pastries were fantastic. We had afternoon tea at the Ritz and the service and quality of food at the Grand are as good if not better.

Went there for afternoon tea with family. Not for the first time I might add. If you want a special experience sitting in comfortable lounge chairs eating tasty sandwiches and cakes topped off with warm scones with cream and jam served with tea or coffee of your choice and served by great staff then this is for you.
