Just spent 3 nights in an Executive Seaview room on our second visit to the hotel. Last time we stayed in a Deluxe Room and it was definitely worth the upgrade to have a larger room with a sea view. The hotel is generally attractive but our room could do with renovating and modernising. We understand that the hotel has started a rolling programme to redo 30 bedrooms a year. Our bedroom was very hot even with the windows open and the bathroom was very old-fashioned. The staff were charming and very nice to our dog who enjoyed her chicken suppers. We enjoyed the extensive choice at breakfast but didn't have any other meals in the hotel. Check TripAdvisor for good places to eat. Lovely to walk straight out of the hotel and across the road to the sea.

It does appeal to older couples but there were quite a lot of families there too and the atmosphere is quite relaxed. Hope to come back again soon.

The Grand Hotel is, far and away, the most imposing building on Eastbourne's seafront. And this remains as true now as it was when the hotel was first built.

Something else has survived the passage of time intact - the staff's dedication to good service. Friendly, rather than obsequious, and as efficient as one could hope for. First class.

Of course, this quality doesn't come cheaply and it is perfectly possible to stay elsewhere in the town for considerably less. But that misses the point. Sometimes 'only the best will do' and, for those occasions, well, you know where to come.

Although we live nearby, we treated ourselves to a special night away here as we have always wanted to. It did not disappoint. Although our room was a little dates, the bathroom was spacious and we even had a small dressing room. The bed was beautifully comfortable and apart from the odd seagull, we slept soundly. Breakfast was also wonderful with all the usual choices plus more. It really was a treat and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We went initially for a Spa Break but I would go back again for a weekend break any time. The reviews were mixed so a little apprehensive. The weather was good which always helps but I'm pleased to say regarding the hotel, the food was great, the service good, rooms nice and all in all had a lovely stay.

We spent the weekend here, had a lovely relaxing break, we were spoilt from the moment the car was parked to the moment we left. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for you. We love the building, decor maybe a little tired, a little old fashioned, but that makes the grand Grand. We will be back.

Superb five star service from the moment they open your car door. What a special place! The white palace by the sea makes the most relaxing, memorable destination. It's a magnificent historic building and pool, moments from the sea, with wonderful food and service, a beautiful lounge, spacious bar and great hall and two elegant restaurants. Serene wonderful atmosphere throughout, with really lovely friendly courteous staff. A superb jazz band played on the terrace on the saturday afternoon I was there, and wonderful band and singer for dancing on saturday night. I saw a seaview room and wished my budget stretched that far, it was stunning! However rooms at the back are roomy and comfortable, everywhere is beautifully decorated. The Grand is beautiful, luxurious, and unique.

Mummy and Daddy use to come here years ago, but we were not allowed so I brought my children here for an overnighter whilst on a tour of Southern England. This is a real hotel full of character and style. Our room was loverly and Afternoon Tea with a Glass of Champagne is something to behold .. We actually ate out I. The evening but Breakfast was adorable and we stole some Sausages for the Dog who greatly approved ..

Having decided to undertake some limited touring of the Sussex coast with a few places in mind we decided to book an hotel in Eastbourne as neither my partner or I had been to the town before.
We secured a master suite for the Saturday night. Our first impressions were not good as the doormen were overwhelmed with numbers of people thus at best we gave our car keys and picked up our luggage from in the entrance hall way, felt certain that at a less busy moment that our luggage would have been take further than the front door.
The hotel had a rather drab sense of somewhere which now requires money spent on revitalising the tired décor.
Our rooms were fine although it was obvious that this suite was two former bedrooms that had been rather inelegantly converted to a suite. Negotiating the entrance door with two pieces of luggage was a challenge.
Floorboards within the room were loose and noisy with an unnerving sense of falling through the floor as one approached the coffee machine. The staff were helpful as they could be, but sensed an overreliance upon non English staff who were on occasions difficult to understand. The staff has to be said attempted there level best.
Food was fair and the breakfast in our room was really good given the distance it had to travel.
The indoor pool and gymnasium has been fitted into the Victorian basement. The approach to the basement facilities is uninviting along a poorly decorated service corridor with little or no signage.
The changing rooms were small and clean, but required deep cleaning to remove the accumulated mould. The outdoor pool was heated, but the insulated blanket is not draw across the pool as it is inoperable.

We stayed here 1st August overnight for my partners birthday. It was very grand and luxurious the did excellent and we were very spoiled by the staff .we'll definitely go back. Also,as it was my partners birthday he got a birthday card on arrival and whilst having dinner the pianist even played happy birthday along with his lit up dessert, nine of which were requested and little touches like that made his birthday even more special.

After a bad start, we paid for standard double, and we given a room that looked like your old nans bedroom ! It was awful !!
Rooms are furnished in old style furniture so if you like modern this isn't for you.
I complained to reception who sent up a porter who took me to see alternative room.
This was a bit better with more light and space room 311, £240 with breakfast.
Outdoor swimming pool is a absolute delight, warm with clean pool area.
The hotel is clean and staff can't help you enough!
Breakfast was so nice with such a wide range of choice. Restaurant was clean tidy and beautiful.
Hotel was in ideal location for all amenities across the road from the beach. Pier and shopping all in walking distance.
Only negatives for us were NO AIR CONDITIONING in bedroom. NO FRIDGE which would have been nice as it was so hot !
Generally a lovely stay, and would go back if I could afford a better room with extra bits that make would have made a difference to our stay !

Stayed at this hotel with b and b for one night for my daughter's birthday. Definitely 5 star hotel with everything done to a high standard.

We enjoyed the SPA and fitness facilities including the lovely secluded heated outdoor pool. Lovely room and good breakfast with a massive choice. Well recommended and good value.

The Grand Eastbourne is a lovely hotel and the common areas are quite grand and very well appointed. The staff are also very pleasant and accommodating. When you walk into the hotel you feel like you are getting the "5 star" treatment. That feeling quickly subsided when we entered our room.
I felt like we walked into a motel room that could cost no more than £80 a night, when in reality it was costing us £265 a night. The bathroom was carpeted, the room was small, the mattress felt like the springs blew out about 20 years ago - it was NOTHING that a 5 star should be. I could not for life of me think of how our room could justify that price point. I was in shock that the Grand Eastbourne could, in good conscience, charge this much.
I spent all of 10 minutes in the room before I went to the front desk to express my disappointment in the accommodations and the associated price tag. The disconnect between what you see in the common areas and what you see in the rooms cannot be overstated. Thankfully the staff moved us to an executive suite, which was much nicer, but the impression left was that this was a 5 star hotel with 3 star rooms.
My advice is to book a decent 3 star in Eastbourne and then have dinner and drinks at the Grand. Save yourself a lot disappointment, and A LOT of money and DO NOT book a room at the Grand Eastbourne.

We had a wonderful lunch party in one of the private dining rooms, for my mother's birthday. Excellent food, perfect service which was very efficient and friendly yet discrete (as requested, as we wanted the occasion to be relaxed and informal). Could not fault anything and would highly recommend.

We stayed for one night last week and wished it could have been longer! What a super hotel so comfortable and the staff are so friendly. We had a lovely room which was upgraded,so we had a 'side sea view'. It was really nice to wake up and enjoy the view from our room whilst enjoying a cup of coffee in bed. Breakfast was delicious with a really good section of dishes. Well done to you all and Thank You everyone.

Visited July 2015, unfortunately the weather was not very nice for a walk along the beach so we spent quite a few hours at the hotel. The building is impressive and well maintained. Used the facilities, Jacuzzi and pool- not too busy so we enjoyed it a lot. Drinks and soft snacks at the bar-all good. The restaurant exceptional- worth the money. The best part of the hotel is the service. Staff are always kind and helpful, trained on high standards. We would stay there again.

We stayed for two nights. I have seen people describe the Grand as old-fashioned; it is not. It was built 150 years ago and so has a certain style. Modern decoration would look wrong. Maybe the comfortable lounge is reaching the point where it needs redecoration, but the service is excellent, but unobtrusive. I ordered prawn sandwiches for lunch. They were generously filled and came with a small cup of hot tomato soup - very good. Several times I wanted a tonic water and there was always a waiter to bring it. We had a drink of tea on the terrace and again, it was brought promptly, but you must not be frightened by gulls.

We had friends in for dinner in the Garden Restaurant and we all had a very good meal, although pricey. They did Crepe Suzettes, properly flamed at the table, which many restaurants will no longer do. Perhaps they needed a touch more sauce, but were still very good. One of us had Plum Tarte Tatin with clotted cream, which was excellent. The other restaurant, the Mirabelle, has a different menu that we did not like - a little odd.

Our bedroom and bathroom were a very good size and clean. Both were decorated in the older style, which we found very comfortable. One warning; the bedrooms can get a little warm as there is no air-conditioning, but they ours was quiet and we slept well once we removed the duvet and just used its cover.

We did find a number of the clientele to be quite old, but it did not trouble me.

There is both an indoor pool and heated outdoor. We only tried the indoor, which was fine, but has no outside view.

There were always plenty of staff on hand and the service was excellent, but the hotel is pricey.

Won magazine prize of a 1 night luxury romantic stay (DBB) for two at this hotel. Pre-arrival, upgraded room to Executive Sea View Room (extra £95) and also pre-booked parking space, as this was limited - Cost £25, but worth it for special occasion. Excellent arrival service from Concierge - took our luggage out of car, parked car for us. Friendly and efficient Receptionist who booked us in. Room not available til after 3pm, so went out onto Terrace to have a pot of tea. We felt that we were "invisible" out there - plenty of staff going around and dealing with other customers, but not one approached us to ask if we'd like anything to eat or drink. They walked past our table, and in the end, after 20 minutes, we had to call someone over. NOT 5* service. This happened a second time on the following afternoon, too. Very poor ! Furthermore, a previous occupier of the table must have dropped and broken a glass, as still lots of little shards of glass under and around the table. Asked for someone to clear it up, and when they came, it was a rather "half-hearted effort", so I then had to keep pointing out all the remaining bits of glass to them, to be swept up.Also heard other guests complaining about the wait for service, and also about long delays in food/drinks arriving. Certainly NOT 5* Service. When our teas arrived, very nice, hot, extra water, lovely home made biscuits, etc. but fail to understand why it takes over half an hour to make/bring Tea for 2 !!!
On entering our bedroom, found a beautiful, spacious, light and airy room, with nice décor, and a tray with Champagne in ice bucket, glasses, plate and cutlery and a large plate of fresh strawberries, plus a lovely box of hand made chocolates. Very nice bathroom with bath & shower over, etc., and great selection Moulton Brown Toiletries. Bedroom had bay window with lovely sea view, and two comfy armchairs, plus plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for clothing. Furniture a wee bit chipped and marked, but I guess this happens in all hotels. It wouldn't take much for a "chippy" to sand and re-stain the furniture, to make it look good again. Not a major issue for us, but finding biscuit crumbs and hairs in one of the drawers was not very nice ! Otherwise room and bathroom spotlessly clean. Excellent tea and coffee making facilities in room. Magazines on coffee table. Lovely bed linens and towels. Had a walk along prom and a drive along seafront in a 1926 Rolls Royce Coupé. (£10 each for 20/30 minutes). Great fun. Dinner in the Garden Restaurant was a little bit disappointing. No real atmosphere in there at all. Décor very "tired and dated". We asked to exchange our bottle of champagne for a bottle of Prosecco, but were informed that the hotel had "run out" of Prosecco that afternoon ! Can you believe that a 5* Hotel ran out of that on a Tuesday - could understand if it had been a weekend, but not mid-week ! The replacement bottle of sparkling wine we chose was absolutely dreadful quality. A bottle of Asti Spumante from M & S would have been better....Again, staff in Restaurant very friendly and efficient. Food was nice, but not spectacular. (Table d'Hôte Menu + Extras). Had Starters of Mozzarella & Tomato Salad, & Smoked Salmon, followed by main courses of Pork and Plaice, with seasonal veggies. No sweets or coffees. Back in bedroom after Dinner, Bed had been turned down and beautiful display of towels in shape of swans and rose petals on the bed. Very romantic ! Plus a gift set of Moulton Brown Toiletries. Great surprise and very welcome. Next morning, Breakfast service erratic, but, again, friendly staff. Cereals on table in centre of restaurant and hot foods and fruits, cold meats, cheeses etc a long walk down at end of restaurant. We had poached eggs - made to order and perfectly cooked ...and bacon, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms, etc from the hot self-service. Tea & Toast brought to table. Again, all okay, but nothing "special". Later in day, I had a swim in outdoor pool. Bottom of pool very dirty in places, and edges dirty/mouldy in places, too. Plus quite a lot of little stones in the pool. However, very pleasant temperature - about 28 degrees, and had enjoyable swim. Nice pot plants and flowers, shrubbery around one side of pool. Plenty of sunbeds. Good Changing Room for Ladies, but only 2 showers and 2 cubicles, so if pool s and other sports facilities busy, imagine there would be bit of a queue. Clean. Hairdryer. Mirrors. No spinner for swimsuits - that would be a good idea for management to consider. All in all, a very nice stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Some people may consider it bad form to make any adverse comments when we won this stay as a prize, but we did pay for extras, and as hotel guests, we felt we were as entitled to make comments and/or suggestions, as any other guests. After all, it is an honest review and should be helpful "feedback" for Management. Would definitely stay again, for a special occasion/weekend, and definitely recommend to friends and family. Thanks very much to all the Staff a "The Grand" for your warm welcome and helpful and friendly service (in the main).

This is an impressive building. When you first arrive and pull in to its drive you are greeted by the door men that give you all the attention of a first rate hotel. The reception is an uncluttered area not thick with guests booking in or out like many seaside hotels at this time of year. We were checked in very quickly and shown to our room (209)very speedily, a quick guide to the bars and dining rooms by the porter on route was very helpful. We arrived at our room to find it was very spacious and clean, plenty of storage room and a nice large clean bathroom. Our son had the sofa bed which would be set up at evening turndown with a complimentary glass of milk and a cookie which was a nice touch. Our first evening we had drinks at the bar before venturing out, the bar staff were friendly and prompt with there service and our drinks. On the whole we could not find fault. On our return to our room after a meal in the town (see other Eastbourne review), we found the sofa bed all set up ready for the nights use. As it was a hot night and there is no air conditioning we opened a window to let some air in, our windows opened onto a quiet side street and throughout the night we experienced no outside noise. But through!the whole night all the windows banged and rattled, the bathroom door could not be closed as this would also bang and rattle. The room door, even with its heavy door lock was clunking away all night long. I did get up and close the window but then the room got hot and stuffy but we could hear a lot of other doors along the hallway rattling. After a very restless night we came down to breakfast which was good, there was a very wide variety of choice and the dining room is quite an impressive room to be served in. All the other guests seemed very happy, chatty and friendly. Most were families or older people, all smartly dressed and ready for another warm humid day. After a full day out to the crazy golf, a stroll along the pier and beach we returned to our room and readied ourselves for the evening and dinner. Our room had been made up and sofa bed ready for the next night. We decided on room service instead of going out because the weather had turned and our son said he wanted to try some of the ice cream sundaes on the menu. Room service was very good and the sundae did not disappoint, all very good. We settled down for the night and again it was all banging, rattling and clunking throughout the night but due to the weather being wet and windy overnight the noise was worse. Our son woke up due to all the noise so I climbed in to the sofa bed to keep him company and help him back off to sleep and his bed and bedding smelt like dog. The Grand do allow pets in rooms but this was an unwelcome and unexpected surprise. I didn't like that one bit. We had only booked in for a short two night break and although we thought the town and overall the service at the hotel was good, it wasn't the great. The Grand is a grand old dame but she needs an up grade on the windows and doors. This can be done without taking away the look of the hotel as I'm sure it will be a listed building. We have stayed in much older and bigger hotels and have not experienced that amount of noise over night from the hotel its self rather than its guests or location. We were all glad to come home for a good nights sleep and peace and quiet.

This is a wonderful hotel. The building is magnificent, the bar and service are outstanding for a British hotel and it is done with style and it is good to see a place run so well. The food is good too. The only problem is the bedrooms and specifically the bed which was small and uncomfortable for two of us and the wi-fi which was not good even when I paid for the faster service. It deserves its 5 star rating but they need to sort out the beds.

A one night stay at this grand hotel was perfect to celebrate a special birthday with friends. I mentioned the celebration on booking over the phone and was offered rooms in the newly furbished downstairs wing. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated.

A drink in the bar was accompanied by olives, crisps and nuts while we ordered our food. The staff were smart and attentive. Our meals in the Garden Room were excellent and we were offered tasty amuse-bouches before the meals were served and delicious petits fours with the coffee. We were happy to eat here in this elegant room where there was ample choice and a lovely atmosphere.

Ive visited the grand on a couple of occasions now and it is my favourite hotel by far.
Rooms are spacious, beds are comfy, views are great.
Dead opposite the beach makes it even more convenient.
All the staff are very friendly.
The mirabelle restaurant is fantastic however the garden restaurant has a bit of catch up to do. Food quality not so great there.
Little niggle there but apart from that it is perfect.

Stayed in this hotel last Friday. The hotel is fantastic and full of charm & grandeur but the facilities are top. We where visiting work colleagues of my partner and had a lovely bbq on the terrace and the service was amazing.

We where lucky with the weather and managed a swim in the outdoor pool. Also used the spa great facilities and very clean. Would highly recommend this hotel for any occasion. Will definitely visit again.

We stay here quite regularly. Old fashioned elegance at its best. A lovely hotel in a prime location. The staff are very attentive and the concierge staff are always on hand to assist. It's true the outside is a little faded but I notice one of the wings has been painted and updated, I assume the rest will follow soon. We are already booked in for later in the year and hopefully time permitting we will be there earlier.

This is the fourth time we have visited The Grand at Eastbourne. We stayed for the Friday 17/7 and Saturday18/7 night. True to their word there was an allocated car park space close to the reception booked for us.For this visit we had a sea view suite which was very spacious, clean and fresh. We ate in the Mirabelle Resturant on both evenings. The food was excellent however the main meal on the Friday was only warm and could/should have been hotter I'm sure this is a one off.

The residential band played both evenings which made the evening very pleasant. The staff of The Grand cannot do enough for you and I would like to thank them all inparticular the Manager and staff in the Mrabelle who really looked after us. We will be back

Stayed here for the weekend.....the rooms have been refurbished which was nice, I would have preferred a sea view room but there were none available. The staff are very friendly but if you are under the age of 50 this is not a place to be, as the visitors are mainly aged 50 and upwards.
The outdoor pool is heated and the grounds are beautiful......and a food full English breakfast!
