We booked for 5 nights, we had a lovely sea view room, did not think the food was very good for a 5* hotel. My partner tried to get a facial, manicure and hair appointment
but the only time available was 9-00am for either a facial or manicure she tried to get a hair appointment but none available the hairdresser's were shut on Friday and Saturday, (very disappointing) the male receptionist in the spa was very patronising bordering on rudeness, it seemed to us that the spa facilities were for the local residents as it would appear you have to book so far in advance, so if you want to be pampered this is not the hotel for you. We found all the hotel staff very helpful and
pleasant

We stayed here for a birthday party, Eastbourne wouldn't normally cross our radar. When booking the staff were very helpful indeed and guided us to the right category of room and location. We wanted somewhere quiet and our room, a master suite I think, we located right at the end of the corridor so far away from the lift and people wandering through the corridors. The suite was huge with a separate living room and bedroom. The decor is not particularly to my taste but it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very dated but there was lashing of hot water, a comfy bath and Molton Brown products. We had the use of dressing gowns, which were actually nice and not the really worn and thread bare gowns that you are often given. The views were lovely, well as lovely as a wet January day allows, a sea view front the bedroom and the entrance from the lounge.
Check in was good with all the staff making you feel really welcome. We called reception a few times, my husband forgot his shaving gel and they were very accommodating. Turn down service was good and punctual, breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty and we were not hounded on our day of departure as can often happen with cleaners lurking around. Overall a pleasant surprise.

My husband and I enjoyed our three night break at the Grand. We have been visiting this hotel, on and off, for many years. It's like stepping back in time and holds a lot of memories for us. We were in suite 201 on the second floor at the front of the building overlooking the sea. It was very comfortable and clean. The furniture is from a bygone era and some should be replaced. The food in the Garden restaurant was very good. The staff at the hotel are excellent and some of them have been there for many years. I feel sad for the Grand because, as I said in a previous review of this hotel, I'm not sure the next generation would want to stay there. They want all mod cons these days and would expect them when staying at a 5* hotel.
Thank you.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis, we had the most beautiful suite which directly over looked the sea from our little balcony, the hotel it's self is quite dated but its full of character and of how a 5 star hotel should be. We used the indoor pool on both days which was kept clean and maintained. The staff were all so friendly and helpful throughout our stay, we dined in both restaurants and was more than happy with the food and service we received, breakfast was slightly chaotic and there was queues to get in to the breakfast room as there were no clean tables etc but apart from that it was a wonderful stay and we would definitely return here again.

We had a lovely meal in The Garden Restaurant, I have Ceoliac disease and I was catered for very well when it came to gluten free food. The service we recieved at dinner and in the hotel in general was excellent.

Our stay was a gift.

We had a lovely three night stay to chase away the winter blues. A genuine welcome from both the concierge and reception before we were shown to our warm, spacious, comfortable room. Used the spa too and it was a lovely pampering treat. We ate in the Garden restaurant two evenings and both food and service were wonderful. Breakfasts were a delight - we only ever have a cooked breakfast when away and it arrived freshly cooked on piping hot plates. We tried afternoon tea too (although not the full monty) it was generous and delicious. A wonderful experience with this grand old lady at Eastbourne, she really is a class act. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

We stayed here for 1 night plus breakfast deal. Lovely reception & lounge area but need a little renovation . Our room (118)was pleasent but a little dated. Very old fashioned furniture but very clean and tidy room in general. Used the health centre which was very good. Pool, steam room and sauna all very relaxing. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great sleep. The morning breakfast was lovely, good cereals/fruit choice and cooked breakfast was tasty except I finished my breakfast before my husbands arrived as they'd got his order wrong so we didn't eat together but not too much of a problem. Whole experience was pleasent but the hotel needs an update but I understand it must be difficult to do and keep the hotel open.

Staff in the Spa were very helpful, and friendly. Me and my husband had a lovely day swimming, relaxing , then a 25 minute massage, which was really relaxing.
Afternoon tea was a treat, everything yummy,
This is our second afternoon tea there, and I would highly recommend.

We stayed at The Grand in Eastbourne for a couple of nights after some days out walking at Beachy Head. We had booked the junior seaview suite and we were really looking forward to the cosy, warm, modern room that we had seen on the website. However, we were extremely disappointed to find that we were given an older not-yet-refurbished room, where the furnishings were tired, the wallpaper peeling a little bit in the corner, the carpet worn with wrinkles where it had come away and an awkward corridor to get to the bathroom. It's a shame as it didn't seem as if the hotel was anywhere near full in the week before Christmas. It has put me off returning. We had an off-season deal, and I would not pay full price for the room.

Both my friend and I had treatments at the spa. I thought my treatment was ok, but not especially memorable. My friend didn't think much of her treatments and found them lacking given the price.

I would also say, though, that the staff service in the hotel broadly was good and what you would expect for a hotel of this quality, and there was little to fault it on in that respect. The dining room catered to my friend's dietary requirements without any complaint. On one evening, dining service was slow and we were getting tired, and asked if we could have dessert and coffee in our room. The staff very kindly obliged and did not add room service to our bill. The communal areas were lovely and warm and the fireplace was inviting.

There was free wifi. But we hardly managed to connect to it, so we might as well not have had it.

My daughter and i treated ourselves to a spa day with lunch included and 2 treatments. The health club is small but very homely . The staff are so friendly on arrival . The small gym is not the most up to date but great for a reasonable work out. The areas are clean . The lunch was lovely but and the service impeccable. The treatments of back massage and facial were lovely and the therapists were very professional.. A really relaxing treat I would return

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea here, using a gift voucher given to me for my birthday. The setting was traditional with great service. Delicate sandwiches, scones and four different types of delicious cakes. We enjoyed this tea as much as any we've had at London Hotels.

We have just returned from another wonderful stay. All staff so attentive & nothing too much trouble as always, food very good & great choices. Stayed in the Debussy Suite, very spacious, clean & stunning sea views. We will be back very soon.

Booked three rooms for just one night for our family. Everyone enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very nice, the staff very attentive & the breakfast fantastic.would certainly stay again. The Grand is also dog friendly, which was one of the deciding factors.
Ps. The dog also loved it.

Nice room overlooking the sea as requested. Bedroom was large with the normal facilities that you would expect. Plenty of attentive staff on hand and afternoon tea is served in the hall at the end of the foyer which is quite remarkable. The Garden restaurant was a little expensive for evening meals in particular the wines however the food was very good with a differing menu every evening that we stayed. Breakfast was also served in the Garden Restaurant and was plentiful with nothing too much trouble.

My husband and I needed to have a couple of nights away from our busy lifestyle to come to terms with my breast cancer diagnosis and pending surgery.
The Grand Hotel was just the place, especially with a suite on the offer.
She is like a gracious, elderly lady who embraced us with a warm welcome in the middle of January!
The staff were extremely friendly and well trained and nothing was too much trouble.
There is an atmosphere of calm and relaxation. Don't go there if you want instant entertainment or noisy music.
The food was good albeit a little unimaginative and not very hot.
We enjoyed walks along the seafront in the winter sunshine.
Flower arrangements were beautiful.
Thank you for a lovely weekend.
Now back to reality to face the operating theatre!

The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is a delightful hotel in a perfect location, the staff are professional and efficient. The meals are a delight and presentation in the restaurant is to a very high standard. The whole weekend visit was relaxing and we were pampered at every turn.

Having always wanted to stay at The Grand my wife and I booked in for the current Sunday night offer.
Apart from the Spa facilities the experience was great and the 4 course dinner fantastic value for £15 each
The staff made the stay special -from arriving in the rain to be met and car parked for you to the excellent service in the dining room
Still a bit of old England to enjoy

I attended a family function sandwiches and tea . Would liked to have served myself .not to my taste . Others I'm sure would like them I like good seeded bread not small white triangles . More sad would have helped and I would liked to have helped myself to more tea.

A lovely evening spent in a very 'grand' hotel.
Quite a throw-back, but very enjoyable.
Great breakfast and service.
Bathroom had a few niggles, but I will come back.

Without doubt the best restaurant in Eastbourne, not counting its sister Mirabelle also at The Grand. Service is sometimes a bit wonky but the food is great as is the ambience. The special set menu at luncheons is fabulous value and the whole place is outstanding.

After a hectic few months at work, for both of us, I treated my daughter and myself to two nights at this gorgeous hotel. And Grand it was!

We bought a package that included 4 spa treatments. And we were delighted to find we could repeat the massage option - thus we both had an hour massage on the first and second day. Is there anything more decedent than that?

The girls in the spa were just lovely, no complaints. The premises were being renovated while we were there, and we had our treatments in a fancy guest room, which was just fine by us.

Unfortunately, as the premises WERE being renovated, our first room, while gorgeous, wasn't suitable as the hallway was being painted, throwing me into an unexpected asthma fit. The front desk was exceptionally prompt in changing rooms for us, so no harm no foul (once a puffer was used that is!) I didn't find the bed comfortable at all, though, I have to admit. But the room was so large and lovely :)

The afternoon tea was definitely overpriced and the sandwiches were a disappointment (not the pastries, mind, but the sandwiches were not up to par). We had such a fantastic meal the first night we were there, in The Mirabelle. Our server was phenomenal, and his recommendations were spot on. We were initially going to dine in the Garden Room the second night, but because the first night's meal was so spectacular, we switched over. Wrong move - the 2nd night the service was awful, and the food matched. I concluded it was definitely a hit or miss restaurant, depending on the server, and what was ordered.

They claimed wifi was available in the public areas, but it was so spotty, it was pointless. May as well say "no wifi available, free or otherwise". But, I wasn't there to search the internet, so it's ok.

It's a very elegant hotel, which had some tired spots, but they were being fixed up during our stay. I loved Eastbourne, and I loved this hotel, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I plan on taking my best friend there when next in England!

You will find a very mixed bag, and it's all down to people's expectations and experience. Like others, we have treated ourselves before to celebrate special occasions at The Grand. This time it was my husband's birthday (74) and I decided to push the boat out and take a suite (Rm 101) which we have stayed in before and has a seaview and a large terrace outside the two french windows. The accommodation doesn't disappoint, despite the rather darkly lit four poster bedroom, and old brown furniture - it all adds to the charm generally. The sitting area is a bit faded, but now has an Nespresso machine to add to the tea facilities. Still no sign of updated infusions and no fresh milk facility unless you asked for room service. I think for the price of this suite, there should surely be a fridge. However, these are small picky points, and overall the accommodation is Grand. Our rate included breakfast - a real feast with no boring supplements, wonderful fish, and the usual buffet or cooked fresh breakfast. All service choreographed with plenty of waiting staff, ready to reveal the underside of the silver cloches brought to the table. The same applies to the dinner we enjoyed in both The Garden Room and on the second night, in The Mirabelle where we had goose from the mains, and a 3 course selection was priced at £43. Wines start quite high (£28 plus) but tap water with ice is readily available and free! We had a very acceptable bottle of South African red wine at £32 but you could spend £2,000 if so inclined or your 'numbers' had just come up.

The concierge service and arrival/departure were faultless and we felt most pampered, with the valet parking, umbrella held forth and ushering into the vestibule like old friends. No stuffy attitudes here, but we were surprised to have to pay for the stay 'upfront'. This is a new procedure and doesn't quite fit the atmosphere of arrival at The Grand. We would stay again - even if only to take advantage of the use of the Leisure Club, swimming pools and treatments spa. We couldn't quite fit this into our schedule this time.

Recent lunches at both The Mirabelle and The Garden Room have been absolutely gorgeous. It is nice to step off the planet and be pampered now and again, and The Grand provides that feeling in spades. For lunch today I enjoyed a ham hock and cheese croquette with pickled cucumber, followed by the most meltingly tender pink loin of lamb served with carrot puree and French beans, and a gloriously naughty honey parfait with plums poached in port. We then had coffee in the front lounge, with mint choccies and felt extremely spoiled. Any negatives? Not really - some of the hotel is a little tired - but the staff are simply smashing, and that more than makes up for a few faded corners in this elegant old hotel.

Upon arrival we were shown a rather small room at the back of the hotel which we found slightly disappointing. We asked reception if there was any chance of changing rooms, and this they did without hesitation, to a much larger room with partial sea view. Throughout our stay we were highly impressed with the service. The team were helpful, charming and unfailingly efficient. The other high point is the afternoon tea, which has to be one of the best in the country. The pastry chefs are highly talented and all the homemade breads, biscuits and cakes were exceptional.

That just about sums up the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne - for dining at any rate. Can't comment on the rooms as only at lunch here New Year's Eve.

Everything looks pretty, the staff pleasant and cheerful but the menu is outrageously priced with a supplement for virtually anything worth having.

How can 5 sticks of asparagus (one inedible) be worth an extra £9.00 on top of the basic price of £24.00????

The menu is hopelessly old fashioned and not chef standard at all. Plaice fillets with pea puree was basically fish and chips with mushy peas, frozen green beans and oven fries. We were not expecting it to be bread crumbed at all. We have strong suspicion it was frozen to start with and whacked in a frying pan.

Glass of wine and prosecco nearly £10.00 each, any other place we dine it is never more than £7.00 and usually less.

Not at sure why the prices should be higher and standards lower than places in Brighton.

We will not venture i here again as the ambiance was like that of a posh care home, sorry to be harsh but that is how it struck us and we are 64 and 66 and felt the need to escape before we signed up for the rest of our lives!!!!
