Hotel booked as special treat. Disappointed at the room was very worn scratches and carpet stains. Dog barking in room next door when owners not present. Hour wait for cooked breakfast. No wow factor.

After lock down for the last 6 months, needed a break near the sea with short travel times and facilities we could use with confidence found all these at the Hotel and surrounding restaurants recommended by the hotel staff which we pre booked and did not have any disappointment's.

we had a very nice stay
However there were a few niggles
If staying in a 5* Hotel you expect the room to be 100% clean
However I lost an earing and whenooking for it we found rubbish and debris under the sofa and cupboard
The towels felt and lookeda little old and used. Not the fluffy inviti g towel one would expect.
There were no bathrobes either.
There wasn't an information folder with any info including room service menus local attractions and hotel facilities
The food we had in the lounge was OK The baggetts were worth ever penny but my sandwich was very disappointing. The chips were undercooked and cold
As was the food we had in room service.again cold chips the steak in the Baggett was to tough and grisely to eat . I was also expecting a home made burger which it obviously wasn't.
On the positive side the staff were all very helpful and efficient.
The room was lovely,
Breakfast was very nice with good service and choice.
The pool was lovely and well organised with the covid.
It was my partner had a massage which he said was very nice .
It was also his birthday if it hadn't of been iight had commented on these points at your front desk but obviously didn't want to spoil the weekend.

We have just spent 3 wonderful days at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne. I was quite nervous stepping out of my comfort zone at home, where I have been self isolating since March. I needn’t have been at all concerned. From the warm greeting by the Concierge and the reception staff, had lunch in the lounge, where the furniture is sprayed with an antibacterial spray after every visitor, all staff are masked and gloved up and as a visitor you are asked to wear your masks whilst walking around until seated. Plenty of sanitizers around, so no excuse not to use them as often as you like. Reception asked if we wanted a turn down service and did we want to have our room serviced daily. Its your choice. Dinner was exceptional with silver service, which I love. Breakfast was ordered and delivered to our table, no buffet these days, but everything you wanted was on offer, and more if you wanted it. I cannot fault it one bit, so much so we will be returning very soon. Thank you to all the staff, too many to compliment individually, and to their General Manager who obviously has trained his staff to the highest degree to cope with this very difficult covid situation, and for making us feel so safe and welcome. My compliments to you all and we look forward to seeing you all again in January. In the meantime stay safe and well.

We had a most enjoyable stay at the hotel. The staff are courteous, attentive and highly professional. The lounge and restaurant food were excellent and the location is superb. The only disappointment was that the bed was only a small double so sleep was a little disturbed.

Location Brilliant, Staff lovely, and Lobby Beautiful.
However the room was tired, a bit basic and the bathroom was not what I'd expect from a 5* hotel.
Pool area is again in need of a refresh.
It was a shame due to Covid the Steam/Sauna rooms were closed. But that isn't the hotels fault.
I would probably go back there as it is reasonably good value for money but its not the full 5* luxury experience.

Pros: Staff friendly. Spa experience great.
Cons: Dinner was not appetizing as it was not flavourful. I did not sleep very well as the bed was too soft. Everytime my partner turned/ moved in bed, it woke me up. It would have also been beneficial to have an iron in the room during our stay.

My husband and I were so looking forward to a few days away after our summer/autumn abroad holiday plans were both cancelled. This hotel did not disappoint. We are used to travelling to some lovely high end resorts and, I have to say, this place matches those. The staff are attentive, interested and kind. The service is en pointe, both in the bar and in the restaurants. We ate in the Mirabelle for dinner and enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch today in The Garden Room. I have to say, the highlight of our whole weekend has been meeting Harry and his team in the bar. What an incredibly decent young man...great service and great conversation. We have throughly enjoyed our time in here and this has been our favourite spot of the whole weekend. Thank you also to Lottie, who rang ahead with room changes due to a change in circumstances at the hotel...that was very much appreciated. We have had a wonderful weekend and would not hesitate in returning and recommending it to friends. Thank you 😊

Our first time in The Grand and we loved every minute wonderful room with a sea view. Gorgeous food mostly dined in the Garden Room staff and food super. We were worried we would feel out of place but from our arrival felt at home. Lucky with the weather on most days and walked along the front a few times. Used the Wellness Facilities and the Spa Pool again lovely people and enjoyable sessions. Thank you to the Grand and all the staff cant wait for our little break in January xxxxxx

Welcomed by Simon at the door who delivered our luggage to the room and then we were courteously dealt with at reception. We enjoyed a drink and canapes in the bar before our delicious meal in the Mirabelle. After a good night`s sleep we were served a well prepared breakfast in the Garden Room. We will return! Thank you.

So we to this 5 star Hotel for afternoon tea on a recommendation of a friend. The hotel lives upto its name very grand, high ceilings great architecture, wood panelling we felt underdressed (jeans and t shirts) but nobody batted an eyelid at our very casual dress. Felt very welcome and comfortable the atmosphere was very relaxed. We were seated in the lounge? I believe, big windows with a view of the gardens. We were seated for about 10 mins chatting before our order was taken. (This wa deliberate as when being seated I said we had come for afternoon tea which starts at 1445hrs and we had arrived at 1435 hrs. They are very precise, no you cannot have it earlier than that). Our server checked her watch to ensure it was time. So a choice of several teas (10 I think) or you could have coffee. We both chose Lemongrass and ginger. It exceeded our expectations as expected bone China and silver, but between us it was 8 sandwich quarters, 4 scones 2 mini quiche and 4 small cakes, with butter, jam and clotted cream on the side. It was all really good but the scones were divine, warm and they just melted in your mouth. So the cost, £57.20 for two people Inc service charge (+ champagne or weekends are little more expensive). Was it worth it? Yes!!! 5 star Hotel with very welcoming staff and amazing food. I would highly recommend you experience afternoon tea here, I will definitely go back again... Although I hear staying there is pretty good as well so might combine the two.

Been here many times.
It may not be cheap but you are paying for the quality, the building, the history, the staff, the service, the food, the safety, the position, the ambience, the peace, the space.

Many staff have been here many years. We recognised them and visa versa.

The concierge(s) are brilliant, the dining - fine.
The breakfast as always was superb, and the afternoon tea - the scones are the best I have ever tasted. Waiting staff were superb.

Yes, it has its quirks, but that makes it what it is. I would not have it any other way.

Ignore the moans of the entitled-minority and enjoy it for what it is.

I was happy to pay for a lovely stay but also to sustain what is an amazing building, continuing through difficult Covid-times.

Thank you and see you again.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating from arrival to the moment we departed. Lovely hotel, room was clean and bed was comfortable. The evening meal and breakfast were very enjoyed and well prepared. Considering were are having to socially distance everything runs smoothly. Would definitely return as a treat.

I have been enjoying visits to the Grand for many years now and especially the Mirabelle restaurant. I belonged to the Elite card scheme which rewarded regular customers and I used it a lot. Now that scheme is changing, with less attractive terms so I wont be carrying on with it. I noticed the prices in the Garden Restaurant have gone up and small economies are being made. Its not quite the same lovely place now. The staff however, are the best i have come accross. Nothing is too much trouble. I wish The Grand all the best and hope it survives.

Elegant, old-school seaside glamour of a Victorian hotel, upgraded for the modern customer. Really loved our stay - lovely spacious and stylish rooms, delicious breakfast and a great massage at the spa. Felt like a proper treat - and was impressed by the Covid measures but they did not impact on our stay. Friendly, courteous staff. Would recommend!

Beautifully elegant. Staff friendly and efficient. Food wonderful. Rooms are large but average and in need of some TLC, unfortunately

A “cucumber crush” original has just the right tartness, giving me a false sense of security but a classic daiquiri was all kinds of wrong leading me to wonder if there was perhaps even lime cordial in it 😱
