This modern gallery has a number of impressive exhibition spaces. On the ground floor is art by local artists for sale - some of it at laughably high prices. On the first floor there is an excellent exhibition of work by Edward Stott for a small fee and on the top floor are 2 loosely related exhibitions about altitude and the use of and power of images taken from the air. Very interesting and thought provoking. The building itself is very nicely designed to my way of thinking. The cafe is basic but has a lovely outlook.

We saw the Edward Stott exhibition, someone we knew nothing about before this visit. Well set out with good explanations.
There are other permanent exhibitions.
Good cafe

Apart from having an extraordinary permanent collection, exhibitions are of a very high standard and curation could teach London galleries a thing or two; there is seldom any pretentious stuff. Recent innovation of film seasons is a real boon as we live in Bexhill and the DLWP has stopped its NT Live showings etc. Maybe Towner could do that??
This gallery, on three levels, is worth a day out with easy parking at the tennis club and the seafront very near. Cafe is OK but has a good view and balcony, but there are a number of restaurants etc near this theatre and arts complex.

This gallery is a quiet gem on the South Coast. It sits next door to a Theatre, under renovation and Devonshire Park Tennis area, of which you get great views of from the cafe. The Towner feature some great art. At present At Altitude a look at the aerial image and Omer Fast 5000, drone warfare. There are also other great exhibitions throughout the year. The shop is small but always stocks products to do with the art featured. The cafe serves great coffee, snacks and cake.

We looked it up on the internet and went in an hour before closing. Very modern with large lifts. Had to go through part of a paid exhibition to get to the room where we could look at the art for free! Went to another floor. A film was showing. Decided not to watch it as it was a depressing film about death. Saw another exhibition about satellite pictures going into space and back to earth. Was very clever. Some good art was on display.

Eastbourne is worth a visit for the Towner Gallery alone. Seaside and galleries - such a wonderful combination- looking forward to many visits.

This is a fine building with an excellent collection - why was so little of it on the walls? We had been there before but had read a recent book on Ravilious by the director and wanted to see some of the collection of twentieth-century British art. There was very little on display, with a frustrating poster inviting the public to go on a special visit to the racks to see what was not on display. The gallery opened a bit late, and the staff seemed uninterested in the work on display and in the visitors. While I bought something the salesperson continued her conversation with another member of staff.

Its hard to rate a gallery as it really is a moving target. But what I can rate are the facilities which are excellent. The cafe run by Urban Ground is fab and the staff always have a smile and a hello for you as well as some awesome cakes.
The views from the top floor cafe are also exceptional.
The best flexi-office you don't have to pay a dime for!!

Modest gallery with a range of spaces over three floors. Ground floor for temporary exhibits. Whilst it looks like a gallery of modern art, I has something for everyone. Well worth a visit.

First visit to this gallery. They had some interesting exhibitions. Very light and spacious with helpful staff. Worth a visit

I love the fact that this gallery is still able to be free, and it has interesting architecture. The exhibition on bird's nests had me puzzled at first. But perseverance paid dividends and I left it with a sense of wonder that is at the heart of education and art. Much of the other exhibits were far too "modern" for me. The Redhead and I are bemused by the lack of signage around the town for this valuable addition to Eastbourne's attractions.

The Ravilious collection is excellent and accessible to all I would think. The modern art such as the tent with an ice cap and the record player spinning etc is too modern for me and my family but at least it was different.

It's a good modern building designed to showcase art. If you like contemporary art, this free gallery is a must for you. There is a reasonable amount to see on three floors and they have a cafe on the top floor. Some interesting workshops on offer for children. Pity it's a little way from the centre so you are not likely to stumble across it.

Although small this is a very good gallery and for lovers of Eric Ravilious’ superb paintings, there is a very good collection. Well worth a visit.

Seek out this delightful art gallery with its Eric Ravilious collection before it may become a victim of local government funding cuts!

A remarkable gallery...challenging, creative and beautifully presented. Helpful members of staff. We would certainly revisit in the future.

This gallery always puts on amazing exhibitions. There were 4 very good ones on when we went and the bird one - a collaboration between a father and son - was brilliant. Nice cafe as well.

I went to see the exhibition called We Stared at the Moon from the Centre of the Sun, alongside other installations on the other floors of Towner Art Gallery. I was completely blown away by the pieces on the ground floor, particularly by the work of Patrick Caulfield, which you can also see on the first floor.

The installations are quite interactive, which makes your experience as a visitor more memorable.

I asked some more information to one of the staff members, who explained that the exhibition on the ground floor has been curated by Haroon Mizra and the Arts Council. The aim of this collection is to inspire a sense of wonder for the universe.

I also loved the collections on the first and second floor, and was intrigued to learn more about different types of bird nests and eggs - trust me, you will be just as entertained as I was, and I am sure children would love it too. There is also a nice play area for children on the second and a cafe, if you need something fun to do on a rainy day.

I was completely thrilled to see so many paintings, drawings, sculptures and light displays in one place. The curation is excellent and the venue itself is fabulous, with beautiful views over Eastbourne. Highly recommended.

A small gallery inside, though it looked enormous from the outside. The current exhibitions were interesting but not large in terms of paintings on show.

We were in the area only for the afternoon, my 8-year-old child wanted to see a history museum but we settled on this. We were worried by its description to be too high-brow but happily found the gallery to be an excellent place combining art with everyday learning.

On the ground floor there was a multi-media installation; a bit spooky for my child but I was very intrigued. On the 1st floor, there is a show called “habitat”, mixing their permanent collection with outside pieces, and a kids playroom with drawing & costume material. On the 2nd floor, a show about birds & nests really captured my child’s attention.

We spent quite a bit of time in each showcase: we were fascinated by all the wonderful things to learn about birds, nests, habitat, eggs, & most importantly human discovery, documentation, & interpretation of the showcased species.

I love how the gallery made its presentation approachable for both adults & kids. Kids, after all, need to be immersed in art to appreciate art. In a more than satisfied fashion, we got both history & art at the gallery.

Hard to find at the end of the seafront, across the road and behind building work.

But worth hunting out. Lots to see and a great way to spend an enjoyable couple of hours.

Good place to see art, although the permanent contemporary collection left me a bit underwhelmed. We also caught an exhibit about birds and nesting (Andy Holden & Peter Holden: Natural Selection), which was absolutely fascinating. Strongly recommended before it closes on May 20th.

This is a free attraction. Set back from the seafront but it is worth hunting it down as I agree with the other reviews that refer to this place as a hidden gem.

It currently is masked by building work fencing but do not be put off. A real addition to this beautiful seaside town.
