we paid £5.50 each to visit the Lyons tea Lithograph exhibition, I personally thought this was quite expensive for what was there, and feel it could have been laid out slightly better but did think it was interesting. Enjoyed the rest of the galleries too so I guess for an hour it wasn't too bad, but don't know if I would pay to see a special exhibition again. We originally tried to come on a monday not realising that it is the one day of the week the gallery is closed.

The Towner was exhibiting three sets of prints commissioned by Lyons Tea Shops shortly after WW2. They were superb both technically and imaginatively, and in general reflected a spirit of relief, nostalgia and optimism that represented that era. My wife and I both remember the tea shops and corner houses immediately after the war, and this show brought it all back to us. The Towner has attracted great notices for the show, and deservedly. We found it a delightful gallery and will be back.

The Towner at the Congress Theatre has really improved the standard of art and culture in Eastbourne. It's a very impressive space with interesting exhibitions, activities for children and disabled people and a good cafe with fantastic views over the Downs and into the Queen's Club.

It has already had an effect on galleries in the town and has raised the cultural bar in Eastbourne - thank goodness! Definitely worth a visit if you have any interest in art. Keep it on your list for when the weather's not so good.

Right next door to Devonshire Park. Very good display of artwork - must allow more time next time! Nice little café & shop.

We hit a bit of a flat spot with the exhibitions I guess. That is the problem with the new galleries without permanent collection interest. Great spaces with great potential. The cafe upstairs was excellent, we had quiche and a pot of tea. We should have researched what was on, but still enjoyed the visait. Small sales area, toilets clean. Good parking nearby.

Cutting edge exhibitions, and a brilliant permanent collection, including Ravilious, all within a beautiful contemporary building.

Lots of birthday money was spent, ready for our next holiday to Tuscany, shame the cold wind still blew, but it made a nice break. Spent a day wondering around the lovely old town of Lewes.

I've visited the Towner a few times now and almost always found a good exhibition of contemporary work. I find the collection displays less exciting but for me the gallery is definitely a major reason to visit Eastbourne.

I live virtually opposite the Towner so visit regularly. What is disappointing is that there is often virtually nothing to see! Last year for instance at May bank holiday there was only one floor with exhibits. An art gallery without art. I think it needs a good kick and becomes more inclusive. Having said that enjoyed the Kelly Richardson video installation which I popped in and visited many times and Bon Hiver was good too. I would LOVE to see art on all floors at all times. Restaurant coffee is excellent and is a great place to browse the newspapers. But the architect who designed the balcony should be shot. You can't see the view!!! Crazy!

There were three exhibitioins, all really worth seeing. I loved the Kelly Richardson video installation. Also interesting to see the Eastbourn Tennis Club from the back of the Towner. Well worth a visit

Nice art centre with a excellent collection of art. Some of the temporary exhibitions need a good imagination to see the reason for it. Kings new clothes come to mind. If it is in a gallery it must be good. Coffee ok.

The Towner is a superb space and venue for exciting exhibits. Highly recommended, but we couldn't help feeling there could more use made of the space.

This is a big cultural city quality gallery. If you are in Eastbourne set aside an hour and you won't regret it. You don't need to be big art experts, there are loads of different exhibitions and it's a stunning building. Enjoy.

Brilliant little museum on three floors in the same building as the conference centre towards the west of the town near the front. Changing exhibitions we walked through a forest that had been created in one of the first floor galleries by Olafur Eliasson. Several video installations by Kelly Richardson which were captivating. Not only were we captivated the school party of five year olds were clearly enthralled too.

We understand the gallery has been at this location for about 4 years and it is certainly clean bright and great fun.

It is small enough not to be overwhelming but big enough to allow you feel uplifted.

Great café and clean modern toilets, helpful staff.

Make time to visit the top floor for this fascinating exhibition, really interesting and so much to take in. Had to leave as it was closing time but plan to go back before it ends in January 2013. One if the better Towner exhibitions. Enjoy. Huw

Well done Eastbourne for getting a well designed gallery to display their permanent collection (includes Eric Ravilious) and temporary exhibitions. One of several very good south coast galleries including the Pallant, The Turner and the new one at Hastings.

This gallery really is a surprising discovery. Well curated, well lit and thoroughly interesting. The 'Point of Departure' show was delightful and the 'Big Art Secret' will have me bidding for a piece of my own! Well done for those responsible for getting this bit right. Check their website because exhibitions seem to change regularly.
The cafe upstairs provided a welcome relief. However, the pricing was eye-watering. Five quid for a roll? A bit of cake and two cuppas for almost a tenner?
(Next week I'm having afternoon tea at the National Portrait Gallery for a fraction of the price!)
So visit the Towner ~ you'll have a marvellous time. But eat & drink before you go.

Well I'm no art expert and couldn't tell you whether the art here is better or worse than the old Eastbourne art gallery which I didn't think was "for me". The fact remains though, that I never went to the old one and yet I've been here twice in the past year and greatly enjoyed everything I've seen, even if I didn't always understand it. The exhibitions here are accessible with fabulous staff that are there to answer questions without being obtrusive. Here I don't feel embarrased about not knowing about art but feel welcomed as someone there who finds what I see intereseting and stimulationg.

A nice new building; exhibition displays may not always be to your liking ,but at least we should visit and form our own opinion. Theres a good cafe and lovely little shop within the gallery.

This is a lovely, simple building which does a perfect job showing mostly modern and contemporary art. The top floor is used for changing exhbitions, mainly of contemporary work and the middle floor is used for showing the Towner's wonderful collections. Sometimes there are special, large scale shows on the ground floor too. There's a great little cafe, and you can book to see work in their accessable store. Genius.
