No one should have to pull out their own teeth with a spoon. Yet, that’s the painful reality for Larry, who has been sleeping rough in Eastbourne for over a year. “I get toothache and then I get depressed. When I get depressed, I pull my own teeth out,” Larry shared. “I’ve only got about five teeth left now and they all hurt all the time.”
For people experiencing homelessness, toothache is more than just discomfort—it’s a daily barrier to eating, sleeping, and surviving.
That’s where Dentaid The Dental Charity comes in. Since 2021, Dentaid has been providing urgent dental care for those who need it most in our community. With their mobile dental unit, they’ve delivered 960 treatments across 35 visits, supporting 228 people in Eastbourne who had nowhere else to turn.
From pain relief to helping someone smile again, their work has been nothing short of life-changing.
But now, that support is at risk. Funding for these clinics is due to end in July, and without new backing, the visits will stop.
