Christmas labels make wheelie good sense

Eastbourne residents will soon find yuletide labels on their wheelie bins with information they need for recycling and sorting their refuse over the Christmas period.

Bin tags include a reminder for leaving bins out, what to do with real Christmas trees and information for garden waste customers.

The labels invite residents to visit the website for all the information they need on waste and recycling collections in 2021.

Anyone wanting a reminder of their next refuse or recycling bin collection day can find this out by visiting this page council website:

Although the council will not be sending paper calendars anymore, calendars will be available to download from here:

If you can’t download, request one by visiting lewes-astbourne.gov.uk/contact-us

Councillor Jonathan Dow, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said:

“Our brilliant Environment First teams will be taking care of all the household waste and recycling this Christmas, as they always do.

“We’ve decided that it makes most sense for the environment, and council finances, not to send a calendar to over 45,000 local homes this year.”

Eastbourne Borough Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has set a target of 2030 for the town to be carbon neutral.

Councillor Dow added:

“We are examining every facet of the council’s operations for limiting carbon emissions. There will be more changes and adjustments in our services to achieve our 2030 target and not printing thousands of calendars is an obvious and sensible step to take.”
