Not so long ago, we heard of a young lady join one of our head office team for some work experience.
Just about to go into her final year at Uni where she studying Business and Marketing, she was keen to ‘learn about marketing and find out what it’s like in a proper entrepreneurial business’.
So they said ‘yes’ and she turned up. Keen as mustard.
On her third day she sat in on a project session.
The team were early on in the development of a possible new product and so were driving out all the details of what would be included, how it would be delivered, the customer journey etc.
There was four of the marketing team in the room, plus the work experience student.
“Is this useful?” She was asked when they took a short break.
“Hmmm, not really” she replied “When do we get to the marketing part?”

The team couldn’t believe it.
“I’m not sure what they’re teaching you at Uni” the business owner said. “We will get to the promotion and advertising part but right now, this is marketing. All of it.
The product. The guarantee. The team. The pricing. The payment choices. The customer experience. The way it feels. What people will say about it…”This IS marketing”
She was young. And inexperienced.
