Eastbourne Carnival is set to be bigger and more spectacular than ever!
Taking place this Saturday 25th May, here’s what you need to know about this year’s event.
This is the 12th Eastbourne Carnival since Stephen Lloyd brought the event back after a long period of absence in 2011.
The carnival will start at 11:45am with the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Candy Vaughan, officially opening the event at the Enterprise Centre.
A small town centre parade beginning at the Enterprise Centre will march through town to Victoria Place. Costumes have been provided especially for Eastbourne Carnival’s theme of Into The Wild by the award-winning and renowned Sunshine International Arts.
Local dance troop Cherry Dance, alongside The Stix Drummers, will be on parade at Victoria Place, ensuring a fantastic carnival atmosphere.
The main carnival parade sets off at 2pm from Fisherman’s Green and will head towards the Wish Tower Slopes.
Spectators are encouraged to get to the route by 2pm to ensure they do not miss the 60+ entrants as they make their way to the Bandstand for their main performance.
A street party will be held in Victoria Place after the carnival finishes, at approximately 4pm with DJs playing an array of carnival-themed music, including Soca – the music of Caribbean carnivals. The street party ends at 8:00pm.
The Town Centre will also have a Carnival Market with a mix local and non-local traders, selling clothing, art and an array of food including jerk chicken.
Mina O’Brien, Chair, said: “I am delighted that we have circa 60 entrants representing our local community, and a few entrants again from the Latin community in London. They have become very popular with the spectators.
“A huge thanks to our sponsors and partners and all of our entrants and volunteers, who are contributing towards what we hope will be a fabulous event for the town.”
