Eastbourne Community Safety Partnership's Wide-Ranging Efforts to Keep the Town Safe
Cabinet councillors have welcomed the wide-ranging activities of the local Community Safety Partnership to make Eastbourne an even safer place to live.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet was last night (March 14) updated on the work of Eastbourne and Lewes Community Safety Partnership (CSP) which comprises representatives from police, fire service, councils, NHS clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and the police and crime commissioner.
Alongside partner organisations, its work has included helping to create safe spaces for women and girls such as awarding funding to Eastbourne Street Pastors; replacing four CCTV cameras in Seaside Road, Terminus Road and along the seafront; and upgrading lighting in Gildredge Park.
The CSP has been involved in various initiatives to tackle hate crime, domestic and sexual abuse as well as reduce serious violence, such as recently approving a bid for a new night-time marshal service in the town centre.
To address the impact of organised crime on local communities, the CSP’s work has included supporting YMCA run youth projects and the local fire cadet service, and raising awareness of scams online and through radio advertising campaigns.
The partnership has continued to support the street community and address related anti-social behaviour, providing a new round of funding to help the re-establishment of the weekend day-shelter run by the Kingdom Way Trust which assists 50 people every Saturday and Sunday.
It also campaigned for the new Public Place Protection Order (PSPO) which will come into force later this month to help tackle anti-social driving in parts of the town.
Councillor Peter Diplock, Cabinet Member for Disabilities and Community Safety, said: “I am grateful for the far-reaching work of the Community Safety Partnership that, in collaboration with our partners, helps to reduce crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour and reoffending, through an array of targeted, local initiatives.”
