Eastbourne Solar and Battery Storage Solutions: Expert Insights and Savings Tips
Due to the energy price rises and cost of living crisis, we have seen an increase of demand from both homeowners and local businesses looking at the possibility of having solar PV installed at their properties to see if they can save money in the long term.
Because we pride ourselves on giving a quality service and ensuring our customers understand exactly what they can have, the benefits and the costs associated with any solar works we have put together some helpful solar information to answer any questions you may not have thought of when diving into the world of solar.
1. You do require permission from your DNO to have a grid-connected PV system
2. You can have a system larger than the 4KW (3.6Kw generally advertised) & yes it does take a little more effort with some additional paperwork but we are here to help and 8 to 10 KW may help you a lot further than you could of imagined.
3. You may be able to utilise the generated free solar power and heat your Hot water tank during the day anytime so you don’t waste any overgeneration in the summer months, saving on heating this with your gas boiler etc.
4. You can have a battery energy system installed without solar panels, why you ask, well these can be charged out of peak times and then utilised during the peak times which will allow you to save considerably on your peak time energy tariffs.
5. You can sell your energy back to the grid.
6. You can if required take your battery system with you if you choose to move home.
7. You can have backup power during power cuts, this will probably be limited to one or 2 circuits depending on your system size but this could be for your freezer or more common these days is to keep the internet running.
8. You can charge your electric vehicle with your EV charger point from the Solar PV system so that you only top the car's battery up when the Solar PV has sufficient capacity, or you can prioritise the car charging first it is all about how you want it to work.
9. You can install an inverter and battery system externally with some additional protection, so it doesn’t always need to go inside your home.
10. You may want to consider a slightly smaller panel PV panel than the maximum available, we have found that in some cases you can then fit more panels to your property and have a greater amount of generation by installing more panels of a slightly lower wattage and save on the initial cost of the installation as well, so this is a win-win in some situations.
11. You can install PV into a new roof or one that is being retiled however this may mean you have less available area to install the panel and they may run hotter than a retrofitted panel which in turn has better ventilation, that said an integrated system does certainly look nicer on the eye but comes at a greater cost.
12. You can add additional bird protection barriers/mesh to prevent birds from nesting behind the panels and there are several systems now on the market which do this very well maintaining good ventilation whilst detouring any unwanted nesting, these can be installed in many ways different ways to new or existing Solar arrays.
13. We are currently using Products from myenergi, Huawei, Samsung, Solar Edge, Tigo, Schletter, Schneider Electric, LG, JA Solar, Telsa, Canadian Solar, Landis & Gyr plus many more.
14. If you already have an existing Zappi or Eddie from myenergi you can now integrate this with one of the newest and most advanced UK based intelligent home battery storage systems Libbi. A modular electrical energy storage system designed in the UK comprising of 5KWh of storage battery system and by combing 4 of these together you can have up to 20KWh of storage, in our opinion this is a game changer for integration in domestic smart home installations.
15. For any government grants available you may only be able to use solar installers that are MCS-approved so make sure to do you research first or you may lose out on any grants. The Tectonic team our MCS approved, and we also offer insurance-backed deposit workmanship warranties on all new solar installations.
16. As mentioned we offer insured back deposit & workmanship warranties on all new solar installations which helps give you peace of mind.
