Eastbourne Borough Council has announced that hospitality businesses across the town can now apply for free to place seats and tables outside their premises.
Businesses serving food and drink - such as pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, snack bars and ice cream parlours - are eligible to request temporary outdoor seating in suitable locations.

This follows a recent law change which means borough councils can now issue these licences and waive the usual fees.

Councillor David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "We have made it a priority to support local businesses through this very difficult time and this scheme is one of the ways we are helping Eastbourne's hospitality industry, a key part of the town's economy.

"Covid-19 has dealt a tough blow to many firms but we are committed to assisting in their recovery, from delivering business grants through to advising on safety and hygiene measures.

"With the summer now in full swing, I hope businesses consider taking up this option so their customers can enjoy being served the best of local food and drink in the sunshine.

"The process to obtain a licence is quick and completely free of charge."

Once issued, the licences last until September 30, 2021.
