Fathers Day and Mothers Day are always widely celebrated each year but we tend not to remember another special day for all the Grandparents out there. Did you know that Grandparents day is on 1st October this year? Neither did we, until last week so we thought we'd share some electrical tips to take care of your grandparents and the elderly as we get closer to winter.
Last year the NICEIC launched their #ElderlyCampaign to urge people to think about electrics when they carry out their checks on their elderly family and friends. Unfortunately older people suffer more fatal and non-fatal injuries from electrically- related house fires than the rest of the population, this is because they often live in older housing that contains more faulty electrics or appliances.
The research result from the NICEIC showed that ‘up to 50% of people will be making regular calls on a relative or neighbour this winter, less than 20% of those would think to take a quick check of the electrics to make sure everything is ok.
Darren Staniforth from the NICEIC said that “The lack of concern over electrical safety is not one about not caring, but generally a lack of knowledge about what to look out for.”

If you are visiting family, friends or neighbours over winter there are a few simple visual checks that you can do around their home to ensure their safety. By adding these little checks to your visit it will reduce the risk of fire or something that could potentially be a problem in the future.
We can conduct an EICR (Electrical Inspection Condition Report) to see what condition the current electrical installation.
