We are delighted and thankful to Jessica McMillan and David Gedge, together with their little Dog Doris who are walking the entire 70 miles of the Isle of Wight coastal path to raise funds for the Sussex Cancer Fund and McMillan Cancer Support. Jessica has recently undergone treatment for breast cancer and wanted to express her thanks to those that had helped her.
“Hello… and welcome to our Big Charity Walk around the Isle Of Wight!
For those who don’t already know, last August I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is that I’ve been through all of the many treatments – chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, injections – and it kind of sucked, but it all worked! I am now officially all clear and slowly but surely beginning to feel like myself again.
As with any long-term illness, the overwhelming feeling during treatment quickly became one of just how amazing all the doctors and nurses and support staff are. Because of their patience and kindness, I had a very lucky run of things and was really well taken care of. David was also amazingly calm and helpful throughout the whole process and kept us both organised and on top of all the appointments and treatments.
So… beginning on 22 June 2021, he and I (and Doris the dog of course!) will be walking the entire 70 miles of the Isle Of Wight coastal path in order to raise money for both Macmillan Cancer Support and the Sussex Cancer Fund. We aim to finish on 28 June.
We’re enormously grateful for all the hard work, research and compassion that goes into giving patients like me the best care possible. Without charities like these and the efforts of those behind them, I might not have had the same story to tell.” – Jessica McMillan, June 2021
