thebestof Eastbourne #EBtweetup is a unique networking event that I started in 2011 to foster connections among local business owners through social media. I wanted to create a different kind of networking experience, utilising Twitter (now X) to bring people together. Our first event was on June 30, 2011, coinciding with International Social Media Day, and it has since evolved to include speaker slots for community and business topics.
Like many business owners, deciding which events to attend was challenging with so many options available. Using my problem-solving skills, I realised that becoming part of the networking circuit made more sense, bringing networkers to me rather than chasing them. This approach also allowed the event to open up to a wider audience, including many of thebestof Eastbourne community partners.
Unlike formal networking events, attendees, already familiar through Twitter, quickly bonded and shared insights, making the #EBtweetup a success. The event has grown over the years, incorporating expert talks and addressing a wide range of social media questions, which helped me hone my expertise. The #EBtweetup now includes presentations by local charities and businesses, fostering community support and raising awareness of local causes.
