The Trust Provides respite for some of the most unwell children in our community, mainly in Eastbourne and surrounding areas, but also for some children further afield across East Sussex and into parts of West Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Most of these children have what are described as complex medical needs, essentially meaning that they need 24 hour care.
We always start by making sure that a family is getting everything that they are entitled to from the state, as there is no point in us replacing what the government should be doing. We then provide respite, which can either be by attending one of our regular activities, such our holiday sessions at our Respite Centre in Uckfield or by one of our carers supporting the family in their own home.
Our Respite Centre is warm, welcoming and full of colour and fun. With a wide range of abilities and ages the focus is all about stimulation in a safe and fun environment while the families take the opportunity to do something the rest of us take for granted. For many, this involves spending time with the siblings of the disabled children and for others it is simply a case of getting some much-needed rest.
The Trust’s work is only possible due to the support we receive from the community. There is no government funding for providing the care we do and therefore we are truly grateful for the local support we receive.
