Demelza provides care and support for babies, children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions and this includes:
- Care at home
- Emergency Respite
- Therapies
- Family Support (including sibling support)
- Family activities
- Symptom Management
- End of Life Care (at home or in the hospice)
- Bereavement suite
- Bereavement Support
These services are currently provided through Demelza Kent, 10 bedded hospice in Sittingbourne Kent, Demelza South East London, a six bedded unit in Eltham and Demelza Community, a hospice at home service operating across the whole of East Sussex.
The team in East Sussex were established over 20 years ago and support around 100 families in the local area. The team consists of specialist and experienced Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a Family Liaison Practitioner. Families in East Sussex are able to access respite, the hydrotherapy pool and other facilities at both of our hospices as well as the support our team provide at home.
We are often involved in local community events and we can be easily identified by our red and white spotty outfits!
Our most recent family activities have included a festival experience for our teenagers and a family afternoon tea. Covid-19 has changed the way we are having to deliver some activities at present but we have facilitated some great virtual events!
At our base in St Leonards we have a large activity room, garden and sensory room for our families to enjoy
We rely almost entirely on fundraising to provide all of our services to children and families. We do have a few shops locally which include Heathfield, Eastbourne, Hailsham and Battle; do pop in, they are well stocked and there is always a friendly welcome
