The crown and anchor was a really nice pub, there is a large tv showing the olympics, a good selection of drinks (speckled hen always goes down well!) and the staff were very friendly. We sat out on the path on one of our visits, it was really nice to sit and people watch. We stayed at the Travelodge which is about 100 yards along the road, so it was really convinent for us and the best pub we found it Eastbourne!

We ate at the Crown & Anchor a couple of times whilst staying at the Travelodge. On first glance it looked like a locals pub but we soon realised it was a mix of locals & visitor and everyone was made to feel welcome and the pub itself felt very cosy with candles on each table. The food was great! I had Sausage & Mash the first time we ate which was lovely, great selection of vegetables too, & my partner had one of the burgers which he really enjoyed. The second time he opted for the burger again as he'd enjoyed it so much the first time whilst I decided to have the Roast Beef. I can honestly say it was the best Roast Beef dinner I have ever eaten out! Mmmmm! It was all very reasonably priced too but far superior to chain pub meals. Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

After enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon in the Crown & Anchor enjoying there great beer,
we decided to eat in there after watching other peoples plates come out. We wasn't dissapointed. Great, honest pub food. Will eat in the Crown again.

Best meal I've had out in ages. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked well, although slightly under seasoned (that said, I'd rather it be that than over seasoned). The football was on and candles were lit on each table, which made for a nice atmosphere.
I assume this pub has a good 'locals' trade as there were a few men eating on their own and the bar staff had a goo rapport with cutoners at the bar area. Service was good and my food arrived quickly despite being told there may be a delay.
In summary, a 'proper' pub with good food. I shall certainly eat here again.

One small recommendation would be the introduction of a desserts menu, as I didn't see one there? Just an idea.

This pub was once a horribly dated waste of space. It always had such enormous potential and was a beaut of a pub waiting to happen. Finally, it was taken over by someone with the skills to see it fulfil its potential!
I can honestly say The Crown & Anchor is the best pub in Eastbourne. It's full of atmosphere and buzz; fresh, clean pints and homely pub food. The decor is reminiscent of some of the finest London station pubs with its stripped floorboards and clean finish but it remains cosy and comfortable and being the closest pub to Eastbourne seafront, endless events and posh upstairs function room, it has it all going for it. Go and spend a Saturday afternoon there - you won't be disappointed!

Held a party in the upstairs function room, great sized bar area, perfect layout, all but everyone commented on the quality and size of the buffet, the staff were friendly and accommodating, could not have asked for a single thing to be better. Returned on mass for a lovely breakfast the morning after. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thankyou Heidi and all your lovely staff.

We have just been to Eastbourne for the weekend and stayed in a hotel next to the pub. We spent Friday night enjoying a swing band and having a lovely meal and a thoroughly fab evening thanks to the great staff who make you feel really welcome. We shopped Saturday but made time to go back there for lunch and then again in the evening for dinner and again and enjoyed a cover band from the eighties. I also have to mention a lady called Philomena. It was her birthday and she was a joy to watch on the dancefloor in the evening in her "onesie" laughing her head off which in turn made us laugh. It all made for a great evening. Well done to all the lovely staff.
Love Helen and Martin
