Really impressed with this pub! We were visiting Eastbourne and found this on TripAdvisor. We were a party of 6 - youngest 4, oldest 73yrs. We had the lamb shank and boy, it was certainly delicious- a large portion which I shared with my 4 yr old and he couldn't get enough of it! My younger son had the BBQ chicken which he finished off quite happily. Even the sweet potato chips went down a right treat! What really impressed us was that alongside their main menu, they had a really decent Gluten Free menu readily available with a varied selection of desserts. Staff were attentive and friendly and kept checking up on us. Good service and lovely food!

Years ago you could actually see the sea from the out-door tables but not since the modern sea defence wall was built. But it’s still “al fresco” in spite of being perched at what has become a busy road junction. (These days you can only see the sea from the balcony of the Function Room upstairs.)
I’ve been a fan of Greene King traditional pubs for decades but although this is supposedly one of theirs it didn’t show up on their website.
It has the prestigious Cask Marque status for it’s guest cask beers but other beers are a bit of an eclectic collection. Sadly, the classic Greene King beers were missing.
Apparently it was the “Eastbourne Herald Pub of the Year” in 2016. This is probably because a lot had been spent on refurbishing it for a more youthful market. It is marketed as being “one of Eastbourne’s most exciting, up and coming pubs”, but this relies heavily on the TV, live music three nights per week, pool etc. It purports to have “something for everyone”, and, whilst this might be so for groups of young regulars, it doesn’t augur well for couples or the passing trade. It probably does well out of the late teens on holiday who would rather not be in Eastbourne anyway.
The lunch menu is mostly burgers with some mains from Cod & Chips to baked potatoes with assorted fillings, a couple of “sharing platters” and various vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes.
We had a Chilli Con Carne on a bed of rice, which came with a small decorative mixed salad and a couple of slices of garlic bread, and a Macaroni Cheese, that came with a larger portion of the mixed salad. Both these dishes were sensible portions of nice food, with the salads particularly nice. We didn’t try any of the desserts.

Used as a unit base for a film we are doing delightful staff and food seafront prices but near pier and beach. Gets busy but outside seating and old world: worth a visit.

This pub was recommended to us for its food by the owners of a b&b we stayed in. We ate there twice and everything we had was fresh and delicious. I couldn't recommend their burgers enough, they are a good honest lump of ground beef perfectly seasoned and thrown on a grill, no fuss, no mess, no yuck, pure good quality meat. My other dinner was a beautiful grilled fillet of salmon with balsamic glaze and it was melt in your mouth yumminess. My other half had a lasagne which he was raving about for the rest of the day and spare ribs that were so well cooked that they were falling of the bones and the portion was huge. Other people were also praising the fish and chips and lamb. Always check the specials board, there are some real gems hiding there. Dinner and drinks for two set us back about £40 which I found very reasonable for great quality food that we got. Oh and a little touch which I found sweet- they don't use any single packets of salt, pepper, ketchup, disposable cups, cutlery etc., even the straws are paper, probably because they are so close to the sea. Thumbs up for being thoughtful!! We will definitely return when we are back in Eastbourne.

Very friendly service, comprehensive menu and great drinks. Sit in the sunshine outside and just stare at the ocean. Meals are large.

My husband and I have eaten here a couple of times and the food is top notch. Most recently I had the lamb shank in ale gravy. It was delicious. The roast potatoes were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, carrots and broccoli were fresh and cooked perfectly and the gravy was divined. The lamb was tender and not too fatty. All complemented with a lovely glass of Malbec. My husband had the ribs and he said they were pretty good too. Will definitely be dining here again.
