Just needed one nights accommodation for a girlie shopping and site seeing trip (herstmonceux castle - beautiful grounds ) and this was reasonable enough. I did find it cheaper to book direct with the hotel paying £70 for a twin with breakfast, rather than £68.00 for room only. room was comfortable and clean but very small, bathroom well let's just say if your over 14 stone and 5 ft 10 ask for a bigger bathroom as quiet a squeeze to get in the shower as you need to get in from an angle! Very friendly staff always had a smile. The only few down sides were the noise of party goers in the street below, the chatting at 4:30 am from the room next door and a lack of choice of hot food.... Come on it's not a full English without mushrooms and hash browns right! But what we did have was very good.

we stayed at the afton for 3 nights recently and the hotel was spotless, the room had a balcony overlooking the pier and had a comfy bed , nice shower and everything you may need. the staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble for them, breakfast was loverly and entertainment was ok, we are retired and were on the 1st floor but as the hotel has a lift this was not a problem. if you stay here see the reception to get parking permits which last from 11 am to 11 am next day and only cost a £1 a day. all in all great value for money and nice people.

Had a Christmas Party night. Food was very average. Staff did have a pleasant attitude though. Drinks not expensive. Overall Hotel appears not to have been updated for 30 years. Great lo9cation right on seafront though if staying overnight.

Having had several business trips to Eastbourne over the past year and having previously tried several other local hotels with mixed (often terrible experiences), I cannot recommend the Afton hotel enough. Clean rooms, exceptionally helpful and cheerful staff and very accomodating management have made each successive stay very pleasant. Situated on the front opposite the pier and close to all ammenities and shopping areas makes the location perfect. The rooms are of a good size and the housekeeping staff very friendly with a real 'happy to help' attitude. From the first stay, as a guest I was made to feel very welcome and it was nice to meet so many friendly acquaintances in the relaxed bar areas and over the well provided breakfasts and dinners. To sum up: The Afton is a gem of a hotel with a great 'family run' feel, where each guest is most certainly looked after - good facilities with a high level of cleanliness and friendliness! Highly recommended and thank you to all who made my stay so pleasurable and comfortable.
I look forward to visiting again in the future sometime (wirgmst)!!

Having stayed at the Afton over many years for conference social weekends it never fails to live up to expectations and has been updated over the years. As most of our party (of 70 +) are visually impaired the staff are always extremely helpful. Situated almost opposite the pier it is in an ideal location and is open to non-residents. There is a ballroom and bar with inexpensive drinks and does have a separate 'quiet' sitting area. The food is average but equates to hotel tariff. Rooms vary in size so suitable for couples or families and are quite comfortable. Hotel is very dog friendly (for well behaved dogs).
We look forward to returning in November with guide dog.

We came to Eastbourne to attend a special party event and needed to find accommodation for the night. We couldn't have chosen a cleaner hotel and the location opposite the pier is so convenient. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we even met the owners! The breakfast was lovely, particularly the bacon.

we went on jones coaches , was picked up at 7.45 on a Monday morning by a feeder coach and didn't know what to expect of Eastbourne ,as we have never been to that area of Britain before. it was a real great and relaxing journey and arrived approx. 4.00 in the afternoon. we had a ground floor room ,that was so comfortable. it was a double room, with a bath.,tv and coffee and tea facility making and had drinking choc on a tray. the staff are so very friendly and helpful. breakfast was at 8.00 and dinner was at 6.3o.the food was excellent. entertainment was excellent. there is a lift to all floors and a few steps to enter the hotel, if you are disabled talk to the manger and they will do all they can to help you ( this hotel has applied to the council to make a disabled entrance and the council are making it hard for them to do this, which is so wrong) the hotel does have an understanding with a local disabled firm and if you ask the night before you can order a disabled bike at a charge of £15 a day. which is recommended if you want to go round the town. there's lots to do in the area you can visit brighton or hastings which are just up the road. the hotel is just over the road from the pier and a nice walk along the prom . if going in your own car do not park next to the hotel as it is resident parking only. the tarrifs of this hotel I found are very reasonable.

Spent a few days at the Afton Hotel and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Good bedroom overlooking the pier and the sea. Good breakfast and dinner with a good variety of food. Rare to find acceptable ale in a hotel bar and pleased to find Harveys, brewed at nearby Lewes. Hope to visit the Afton again.
