My husband myself and two older sisters went for a short 4 day break.
We booked rooms on the front and were very pleased with the lovely position and view, however my sisters room, 212 needed severe renovation and had a very dangerous carpet, it was all torn and had lots of ripples in it.
My main worry was that as the recipient of a triple hip operation, she would fall and do greater damage so we bought a small rug tto cover it up.
Very bad for a hotel catering in mainly older clients
Our room 207 was very small but adequate and could also have done with renovations.
Both had very squeeky floorboards which woke us whenever the people above walked across them.
The waiter Daniel was very efficient, polite and made us feel very special, in fact he added to the pleasure of our small break.

The hired cabaret entertainment could have been better but Mark was very good and we found him very funny and approachable
All in all a good holiday with good food and friendly staff but if you go don't forget to take a face cloth as unlike most Shearings they are NOT provided.

I stayed here with my daughter and two granddaughters age 15 and 12. Food both at breakfast and dinner was suitable for all of us - plenty of choice and excellent portions of good quality.

Rooms very large and very clean.

Hotel is in an excellent position - right opposite the pier and promenade. Excellent bus service to Hastings or Brighton. Recommend going into the Brighton Pavilion - well worth the entrance fee as you get to go into many of the rooms which are fabulous.

Just returned from eastbourne, the hotel is currently being partly refurbished, i say partly because our room had a new bath, but a scratched sink and toilet, new carpet in bedroom and on corridors, freshly painted, workmen currently doing floor 2 .
The staff were very friendly and the food was good apart from the frozen fish and chips, why cant you get decent fish at the seaside.?.
Most shearings hotels seem a bit tired, but for what you pay, i think they are ok, trouble is we are used to going abroad and having 5 star luxury, but you pay a lot more.
Overall the holiday was very good, and Tony the driver was a mine of information and made the holiday more interesting.

The hotel is currently undergoing some re decoration of the corridors . The room I had (single) was adequate but rather tired, the food was very good and the waitress Erika very efficient. Bar service not so good, very slow. Entertainment mixed...bingo most nights!! The position of the hotel on the promenade opposite the pier was ideal and I enjoyed a leisurely walk down to Holywell then caught the mini train back. My parents who are in their 80s were also at this hotel and had a seaview room which was ideal for them as they are unable to walk very far but could still enjoy the sea and garden views and the fresh air from the windows in their room. The worst aspect of the hotel was the lifts.....very small and only two for the entire hotel, bearing in mind that the majority of guests were elderly and some quite infirm it caused problems at meal times and on arrival and departure days.

we have just come back from a very enjoyable five day holiday. staff were very helpfull, food was very good with a good choice and always hot our waiter michael was alway very quick with the service and very polite. our room was clean but a note on the wall in the bathroom stated the shower no longer works which was a slight problem. at the end of the day we only slept in the room as there was so much to see and do around eastbourne. we loved the hotel and will be returning as soon as possible.

Just returned from 3 night break and found the food and restaurant service was great. Good selection on menu and very efficient service. The rooms allocated were very tired looking but o.k. for the money paid and at the moment whilst renovation is being carried out at the rear of the building, scaffolding, smell of paint etc. an upgrade to a sea view room might be worthwhile. The beds were the creakiest I have ever come across in a hotel and if we were staying any longer I would have asked to change rooms. All of the staff were very helpful and polite throughout our stay and nothing seemed too much trouble. Entertainment was so-so although this didn't bother us and the location of the hotel was perfect, practically opposite the pier.

We were offered a superior room at £748 for the week on 2nd Floor.. When we arrived someone else had our room and we ended up in a grot room facing the fish and chip shop. A long way from one we were originally offered with sea view, flat screen 26" tv etc. Yes we were refunded £252 but we wanted the room offered. We have mobility problems and being claustrophobic could not use the lift to an alternative 4th floor room. TV was on its last legs and very unsafe on the wobbly stand. The remote numbers were worn out from wear and it was held together with elastoplast. Window wedged open with a piece of wood. On top of all this we had to negotiate our way around paste tables, stripped wallpaper and smell of paint from decorators. And walk up stairs covered with a dustsheet. This was meant to be a special break for us, Of course hotel say they do not guarantee the room booked, so why offer it in the first place, we would not have booked if we had known. Staff very good about the only thing that was. Food in restaurant very indifferent. I use a walker and at one stage it was completely covered in a film of white dust.

I have just returned from a very good holiday at the Burlington Hotel from 24-28 October, for my evening meal from Tuesday to Thursday and my breakfast from Wednesday to Friday, rather than eat in the hotel restaurant, I had take away from places in Eastbourne, as I didn't enjoy eating in the hotel restaurant much as I was put on a table with someone rather than have a table to myself which I'd like to have had, and also having to listen to lots of people coughing which I don't enjoy listening to and it can make me jump at times, people still come on holiday despite having a cough, so having take away and eating it in my room made it more enjoyable as I didn't have to hear any coughs in there, through having take away, I was paying for my food twice, which I didn't mind doing now onto my room, it was on the 4th floor, room 415, which had a sea view which I liked, a shame to have a single bed, not a double bed as I sleep in a double bed at home so having a single bed felt different, the TV had good reception with all of channels 1-5 on it which pleased me, I got a bit worried that the reception was going to be poor or channels missing which I would have hated as TV is my life, a shame the hotel didn't have wi-fi though as without it, I couldn't access the internet on my laptop as a result, I could access the internet on my I Phone though which was good, I would come back to Eastbourne one day and maybe stay in the Majestic Hotel, the other Shearings hotel in Eastborne, I have my doubts it has wi-fi though, I don't mind as I can access the internet on my I phone, hopefully next time I go on holiday, I will have a table to myself in the hotel restaurant and not be put on a table with someone, if I am not on my own, I will be having to have take away breakfast and evening meal, paying for my food twice again which I won't mind doing.
