Herstmonceux Castle is a very beautiful castle in the High Weald area. On the frontside it is sourrounded by a moat of water. A bridge is leading go the entrance.
On the backside of the castle there is a wonderful garden and a parc.

Herstmonceux Castle is a brick-built castle, dating from the 15th century, near Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England. It is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The castle was renowned for being one of the first buildings to use that material in England, and was built using bricks taken from the local clay, by builders from Flanders. It dates from 1441. Construction began under the then-owner, Sir Roger Fiennes and then, from his death in 1449, by his son, Lord Dacre. The parks and gardens of Herstmonceux Castle and Place are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. Other listed structures on the Herstmonceux estate include the Grade II listed walled garden to the north of the castle, and the Grade II* listed telescopes and workshops of the Herstmonceux Science Centre.

This is one of those must-see houses. Its restored state is magnificent from the outside and doesn't disappoint on the inside either. This place is all about its history and I would recommend taking advantage of the guided tour to truly understand about the castle.
It is a working educational environment so you will be mingling with international students studying at the Castle. There is room for all though and it adds to the warm atmosphere of the place.
The formal grounds are lovely and beyond them are lovely walks among the trees and orchards.
But it is the history which is fascinating so I would recommend buying the Quidenham book. Well worth the £3. I also enjoyed visiting the gift/art gallery shop. Some interesting works by local artists.

Lovely day out! Free entry to walk around outside in the grounds. Plenty of green space to walk around outside too, but you might need some boots if you plan on walking outside the grounds as it can get muddy! There is also a mini museum which is pretty interesting. Didnt go inside the castle or gift shop so can't comment on these!
