A slightly outdated hotel with elderly clientele. My room was spacious and clean but the radiator wasn't working and was replaced by an electric heater which took a long time to warm the room. There was a leaking ceiling in the restaurant area. The breakfast was of standard quality.

This is a very nice castle to visit, even at it’s ruined state. The outer walls are indeed free to visit and could be a nice spot for a picnic if not too windy. That said the inside bit is well worth the entrance fee with lots more to see. It doesn’t seem to receive many visitors so we have it all for ourselves for the majority of our time there. Staff at the ticket office/gift shop were lovely and helpful. There are some exhibits here and there and lots of information for those who want. The audio guide is also very informative and they even have a “kids” version. Great for a day out!
