Loughton Voluntary Care is dedicated to helping older people maintain their independence and stay socially connected.

Serving the IG10 Community for Over 50 Years

Loughton Voluntary Care (LVC) is a well-established, volunteer-led charity based in Loughton, Essex. For more than five decades, LVC has provided trusted, practical support to older and less mobile residents throughout the IG10 area. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the organisation is committed to promoting independence, reducing isolation, and helping individuals stay connected to their community.

LVC offers a friendly and reliable service to those in needโ€”and provides rewarding volunteer opportunities for those who want to give back locally.


Servicesย 

LVC delivers a wide range of free or low-cost services to support older adults, people with limited mobility, and housebound residents. Services marked with an asterisk (*) are open to all local residents, regardless of age or need.

  • Transport to and from hospitals, GP surgeries, clinics, and medical appointments

  • Drivers wait and return with clients as needed

  • Clients may bring a companion if they wish

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Good Neighbour Befriending
  • Regular home visits from carefully matched volunteers

  • Focus on companionship, shared interests, and emotional support

  • Open to self-referrals and referrals from GPs, social services, and family members

๐Ÿ›’ Escorted Shopping Trips
  • Accessible minibus trips to a supermarket every Monday

  • Volunteer escorts help clients with shopping and at the till

  • Includes time for refreshments and conversation at the cafรฉ

๐ŸŒฟ Garden Rescue
  • One-off clearance service for overgrown gardens that have become unmanageable

โ˜• Social Activities*

LVC offers a variety of inclusive social sessions to help residents make new friends and stay mentally and physically active:

  • Keep Well Club โ€“ Wednesdays, 2โ€“3:30 pm: A 4-week programme of gentle physical and cognitive activities with refreshments

  • Coffee Time Walking Group โ€“ Mondays, 10โ€“12: Light walking with a friendly coffee break

  • Fish & Chip Lunch โ€“ Last Saturday of every month: Meal, music or quiz, and prize draw

  • IT Clinic โ€“ Saturdays, 10โ€“11:30 am: 1-to-1 support with smartphones and tablets


Volunteering Opportunities

Loughton Voluntary Care provides a variety of rewarding and flexible volunteer roles for people from all walks of life. Volunteering with LVC helps individuals stay active, contribute to the local community, and build new skills. Whether retired, returning to work, or gaining experience for higher education, volunteers are always welcome.

Roles Include:
  • Drivers โ€“ Transport residents to medical appointments or drive the community minibus

  • Duty Officers โ€“ Answer calls, take messages, and coordinate volunteer support

  • Befrienders โ€“ Offer companionship through regular visits

  • Escorts โ€“ Assist clients during shopping trips

  • Helpers โ€“ Support social activities and events

All roles are unpaid, but out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. Training and support are provided to all volunteers.
