We went to Bourne Hall today. I didn't know there was a craft fair or I would have brought some spending money with me. Lovely range of products to look at including some pottery and wooden bowls as well. The library is spacious and staff are helpful too. Borrowing books was easy. However I wish I had known about the new Open Ticket Scheme that seems to be in effect. I would go there again. There is a nice coffee shop on site although the range of food to buy appears to be limited. The upstairs museum is good for children.

Highly recommended

Having visited Bourne Hall many times, for both the building activities and the park & lake, the 9 year old was very excited to see a brief history of the Tudors - showing the WORST employment opportunities of youngsters in Tudor times that would have been available at the nearby Nonsuch Palace. There were VERY graphic demonstrations of the various roles - from rat catcher, spit boy, groom of the stool, wool dyer and executioner to mention a few! The 9 year old was active in the role of rat catcher, hitting a rat (ITS ONLY A PUPPET, before anyone complains), until it was REALLY dead - apparently it rolls over when it is! The scary bit was the excellent British practice of being HUNG, DRAWN & QUARTERED, (something that may / should be applicable today?), and the chosen audience member for this one thought the executioner was a bit too realistic - with his massive axe, but no harm done!! For £5 (per child) with the adult going free, an excellent hours and a half spent - along with some little known facts about the Tudors to dazzle (hopefully) the teachers back at school. The next show of interest is apparently Battlefield Medicine - run by an ex-soldier with experience in Afghanistan and with a knowledge of old medical practices as well - I will probably enjoy this one more than the daughter!! Can't wait!!

I hold a Fayre at Bourne Hall each year for a charity. The venue is very nice and the staff are very helpful. There is also a small refreshment bar that serves nice sandwiches teas and coffee etc. There is plenty of parking for cars, however this can be fairly expensive if you are spending the day there.

Found in a lovely park, Bourne Hall is a wonderful idea of what people thought the future of architecture might be. It houses a library and other community facilities but the most interesting is the local museum. Housed on the first floor, it covers everything from the Romans to toys we bought for our children in the 1980s (remember the Fisher-Price toy phone?). Some interesting exhibits including models of Epsom race course and items on its history. Worth a quick visit if you are in Ewell.

A unique building relic, built around the 1960s and always a pleasant place to visit due to the high ceilings and very open plan nature. It has hardly changed over the years though, and therefore deserves some form of refurbishment. Attended a large memorial event in one of the halls and set up films in the downstairs main hall. Good food and service provided by the hall team, though obviously this can be an expensive option with the hall hires as well. Staff were polite and helpful. There is a cafe too, conveniently situated on the ground floor. The grounds of the hall is a handy area to have lunch when the weather is good, and there is also a lake present. Library is useful too.

Information on my ratings:

5* I give relatively few. Has to be a place I would either go to regularly and consistently provide a cut above the rest, or a place that I may have visited just once and offered a particularly memorable experience or be exceptional value.

4* is a place I enjoy and would tend to go back to if the opportunity was presented. Probably a good level to aim at for a catering/hospitality business, as too many 5* suggests you may be underselling/undermarketing.

3* places - are adequate and I would sometimes go back to but other choices are generally preferred; normally there is obvious room for improvement, usually in the offering and value.

2* places - have issues that make the experience below par,

1* places - hope I don't end up in one of these!

The cafe in Bourne Hall has been awarded level 5 ( the highest ) again for food hygiene. The park around is beautiful with a small lake and fountain . There are ducks and geese on the lake . For those with families and small children there are toilets in Bourne Hall. Drawback is small car park. Buses 293 406 stop outside. Just up the road on the Main Street is a Sainsbury's local which sells good selection of sandwiches . etcetera.

I've been going to Bourne Hall for many years. There is parking for a good amount of cars, has beautiful grounds to sit and watch the birds and squirrels or feed the ducks and swans that are swimming in the fountained lake.
The hall houses a library, function rooms, a museum, toilets, cafe and sometimes they hold art exhibitions.

I have been to Bourne hall many times when my Son was younger. Lovely quaint little park where you can feed ducks and squirrels. Bourne hall it's self is good you can visit the mini museum inside. There's abundance of activities to do example yoga, line dancing. I haven't booked any of these classes yet, but if look when you walk in there's a bulletin board that tells you what's going on.I go there every four months to give blood.

Having visited Bourne Hall on numerous occasions, there is always something to keep the whole family occupied. You can either park at the location or in various car parks around Ewell. We mainly use this as an opportunity to let the kids run riot around the spectacular grounds and also to feed the ducks and squirrels. Wellies are advised, as it can be very muddy and the various deposits from the birds can clog up the trainers very quickly! Beware, the canada geese can and will peck the food out of your hands so little fingers are at risk. Carry some handwash with you as you will need it after having pigeons landing on you!! For the more adventurous, cross over the road by the old spring that was used to cool off the wagon wheels and walk upto the old mill (now a business building) and in season a flash of a kingfisher can be seen.

Finally sorted out the coffee shop here! Love bourne hall outside, but it didn't cater for families with only one highchair in the past. Speaking to the staff in the coffee shop last week they are now council run and have dropped their prices and finally have a batch of highchairs for families! New food and drink options are coming too, so it is becoming a really good lunchtime/tea n cake stop!

This is an example of a community building that works with a library, cafe, museum a number of rooms for hire and a basement theatre.

Good food and drink, though service a little slow. On the day I visited it was very busy with only one sitting area left. The library however seemed deserted.

Nice place to visit with the kids - plenty to do and see and lots to keep the kids entertained. Need to take bread for the ducks and geese as they get very peckish.

What a lovely little park in the centre of Ewell village.

Bourne hall itself has lots of fascinating facts about the area and a little cafe

In the park there's lots of room to have a little picnic or feed the ducks

Great fun for all the family, plus there are facilities in Bourne hall should you need them

There is parking to and the fees are nominal.

Good for feeding the ducks and squirrels followed by a cup of tea and cake in the cafe. The library in the venue provides another way to entertain children,

nice park, terrific trees. inside is a tiny café, not fancy at all more near cafeteria but without pretention, and you can't beat the friendly staff, they really are the nicest. It's prepacked sandwiches and some they will toast for you, really for quick bites in a nice casual place.

a meeting with my family, tea and a sandwich whilst I waited for them.

Love this place, it serves so many purposes not just a library but more a centre to explore.

The local museum history room provides information on the village and its surrounding area, the library meets the readers needs and then the whole range of opportunities available makes it a hub for the village.

Fancy a dance or tai chi? Check out Bourne Hall.
